A particular feature of the property is the raised open plan living room and also huge, double height, first floor master bedroom with luxury, contemporary en-suite shower room, walk-in wardrobe and sliding doors onto a private south facing balcony.

The England region

Approximately 65 miles south west of London, 'West Manhood' covers a small area starting some 3 miles south of the Cathedral City of Chichester and stretches a further 4 miles to the coast where the beaches look across The Solent to the Isle of Wight.

The villages of East Wittering, West Wittering and Bracklesham Bay are situated here and this is where you will find a wide choice of self-catered accommodation offered by the holiday letting department of 'Baileys Estate Agents', (0044 1243 672217). A mainline station located at Chichester provides a regular service to London Victoria in about 1 hour 45 minutes and to Gatwick in about 1 hour 5 minutes. An alternative, slightly faster rail service to London is also available from Havant in about 1 hour 20 minutes to London Waterloo.

West Wittering

The Cathedral city of Chichester is some 6 miles to the north, providing a comprehensive range of shops, bars and restaurants arranged mainly within the old Roman walls, now a pedestrianised area.

The arts are well catered for as Chichester is home to the internationally renowned Festival Theatre, Minerva Theatre and Pallant House Art Gallery. Annually the city plays host to a number of celebrated music and arts festivals centred around the Cathedral.

The waters of the Solent are particularly popular with sailors. Chichester Marina, Birdham Pool and Itchenor Sailing Club provide the nearest sailing facilities. The National Trust reserve (1.5 miles) at East Head has perhaps the most picturesque beach in West Sussex and the award winning coastline of the Witterings and Bracklesham Bay in general provides many opportunities for swimming, windsurfing, kitesurfing and landboarding.

Other recreational activities are well catered for there is a multiplex cinema in Chichester and there are several Golf courses in close proximity. Apart from its' internationally known racecourse, Glorious Goodwood also provides many other facilities including golf, country club and airfield. It also plays host to the world famous annual Festival of Speed and the Revival meeting in September at the historic motor racing circuit.

There are exceptional walking, horse riding and mountain biking opportunities to be enjoyed in the South Downs countryside.

“Potentially Perfect but maintenance issues”

A lovely house on the beach, bright and sunny and very spacious with excellent storage. We stayed for 2 weeks and had various family and friends come to stay. Lots of space for up to 10 people (it sleeps 8), great modern and clean bathrooms and a lovely raised terrace with table and seating for 8. Location great, lovely walks in both directions and hours of pleasure spent on the beach and watching the world go by. Almost perfect. However, this house had been recently purchased and we felt that no effort had been made to convert the house from a 'family weekend break house' to a 'commerical rental'. Examples: FILTHY sofa covers (were removed and cleaned but damp for 48 hours), FILTHY glass shelves (I cleaned them), FILTHY kitchen drawers ( I cleaned them), FILTHY light fixture above kitchen table - very stylish but full of dust and spots of grease (was professionally cleaned, sort of), etc. Dishwasher broke, bulbs missing (and small complicated bulbs that we could not replace in local shop), BBQ was so rusted that it had to be replaced, so we had 1 week without a BBQ. Landlord and Agent at odds about who should be doing what. One odd thing - Linen is provided (why is this not standard in the UK?) but towels were not - we live in Hong Kong and this was a huge inconvenience. Owner and Landlord appeared sympathetic and once I reported all the issues, did fix everything. However, for Sterling 1,300 per week (in 2010) I did not expect to be managing the property. I notice the price for 2011 is now 1,900 per week - I suggest you visit the property first. Small other details: bed base in guest room is wrong size for mattress, flying ant/termite problem in guest room (cleaning wood chips up each day), mattress covers are not changed between guests and indeed beds appeared slept in! I wanted to base to spend a month each year - this, sadly, is not it due to apparent unwillingness to make substantial alterations to justify rental.

"Highlow Cottage is a fantastic house right on the beach, which is very popular and fully booked every summer. Regarding the review submitted in Dec 2011, the agents (located a 5 minute drive away) responded to the tenants concerns immediately and rectified all of the issues with no delay. They appointed a new cleaning company to manage the weekly cleaning of the house. The agents now offer a service providing linen, bath sheets and hand towels with the beds made up on arrival (no, they do not appear slept in!)."
