The Edinburgh region

There's something nearby for everyone in Edinburgh. Within half-an-hour lies beautiful Roslyn Chapel; learn about coal-mining at the Scottish Mining Museum; go hill walking in the Pentlands with 100km of signposted paths; go rock climbing at EICC; enjoy the sea at Portobello or Aberlady -- and, of course, play golf for a very reasonable fee. Further afield is Dirleton Castle near North Berwick; There are tiny Fife fishing villages to explore, narrow boats and rowing boats on the Union Canal to hire, a dry ski slope, Scottish Wildlife Trusts' reserve and bird hide at Duddingston Loch to check out, and of course whisky and micro-breweries to tour. Pretty much whatever you want to do within about one hour's driving. Or take the bus - all bus stops are within 5 - 10 minutes walk of the house.

Good roads can whisk you away, by car or coach tour, for a day (or more) to picturesque castles, the beautiful Highlands and Islands, Loch Ness, Glencoe; the Aviemore ski resorts or whisky distilleries and fishing in Speyside. Or go stress free by scenic railways trips from Haymarket station just 1 km away from your apartment.

West End

2014 is going to be a special year for world events in Scotland with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles in September. Edinburgh is within one hour from both places.

Scotland's capital city has everything. Already world-famous as the International Festival City for films (June), Jazz (July), theatre/concerts/the Fringe (August), Books (August/September, Edinburgh is also a UNESCO heritage site. Its centuries-old heart beats in a vibrant modern environment - from Princes' Street shopping with high street names, designer brands and boutiques to iconic 1000-year old Edinburgh Castle, which hosts the Edinburgh Tattoo (July/August) and dominates both the medieval Old Town and 200 year-old New Town. Castle Rock is also home to the Whisky Experience and Camera Obscura.

To counter the city attractions, Edinburgh also offers the countryside within its city limits with the very walkable Arthur's Seat beside Holyrood Palace, the Queen's home in Scotland, and Portobello's sandy beach only 5km away.

“Top notch”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2015

Everything about this flat was perfect - central location, extremely convenient for the tram and for buses; lovely large rooms, furnished to a high standard and appointed with everything that we might need. The living room is beautiful; bedrooms extremely comfortable; kitchen spacious and bright; and it was an added plus to have a separately dining room. The several bathrooms in the flat were well appointed, and all was very clean. Hilary was extremely accommodating and helpful. It is an easy walk to Charlotte Square for the Book Festival, to other festival venues, to the Modern Art Museum, the Water of Leith and Deans Village, and to a nice variety of local pubs and small restaurants.

“Fantastic places and great location”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2014

The house was beautiful. Very spacious with lovely rooms and bathrooms - we especially liked the spectacular living room. The location was very central and within walking distance of central Edinburgh. The house had everything we needed, although anther parking space wold have been a bonus. Perhaps a bigger dishwasher and smaller freezer would have been a better balance but it did not detract at all and we coped with 8 people and numerous visitors all week without feeling crowded at all.

“Affordable Opulence”

Reviewed 27 May 2014

A returning visit to this apartment did not disappoint. A beautiful period property with gorgeous decor, high ceilings and beautiful furniture compliment the high standards this property offers. Situated in the West End with a tram stop ( Shandwick Place ) outisde it is the perfect place to from which to explore Edinburgh. Sited close to several good restaurants notably La Piazza (Italian) and Kyloe (Steakhouse) both of which are worth a visit. For those in search of single malts look no further than the Ghille Dhu. Princes Street and The Royal Mile are both within easy walking distance as well as the historical sites Edinburgh has to offer. This apartment is best suited to a max. of 8 people but can squeeze 10 in but not recommended to those with very small children or those with motability issues as it has stairs. It has a private parking space too. Absolutely will be back. Thank You again Hillary.

“Brilliant apartment, fantastic location!”

Reviewed 5 May 2014

We had a group of 8 adults staying for the early may bank holiday - we had a great time. The apartment is very well presented and conveniently located for the city centre. There's plenty to see and do within walking distance, and it couldn't be easier to get to from the airport. I would certainly stay here again if coming back to Edinburgh with a group this size.

“A wonderful location and beautiful home”

Reviewed 13 Apr 2014

I do not know which to praise the most: the wonderful flat with the enormous drawing room, or the perfect location for quick walking access to everything. On top of this the owners are the most friendly and helpful you will find anywhere. Plenty of space for a family trip and exquisitely decorated, a perfect place to facilitate your visit to Edinburgh. Also, the brand new tram (in test phase during our trip) stops virtually in front of this house!

“Fantastic place”

We are just back from a stay in Atholl Crescent and it couldn't have been better. The apartment is simply stunning & in a perfect location just 1 mins stroll from Princes Street with all it's shops, restaurants and bars. Hilary is extremely helpful and accommodating. The apartment is well equipped and a very comfortable and cosy place to stay. We will definitely be back,

“Spacious, Comfortable and excellently located....”

Reviewed 13 Feb 2014

Went with family to watch the Rugby at Murryfield.. The apartment is very spacious, clean, comfortable and homely.. Suited all our needs and made our stay even more pleasurable. The location is excellent, very quiet and only a very short walk to princes st and even shorter to the nearest friendly pub, other bars and places to eat out. Hilary, the owner couldn't have been more helpful. Communication before our trip was great. Meeting us at the apartment and getting the essentials for the fridge and ordering a taxi when we arrived late at night was reassuring and helpful.. Thanks for helping to make our stay enjoyable.. Mike

Pity the rugby or weather wasn't so brilliant, but you did get to try out the completely upgraded lovely bathrooms. I think it was a great birthday present for your dad's 70th birthday. Thanks for this review, I appreciate it.

“A comfortable and relaxing apartment near the centre of Edinburgh”

Reviewed 7 Jan 2014

The apartment is in an excellent location within easy reach of public transport (including the soon to be opened tram system). It is within walking distance of all major attractions - depending on individual level of fitness. There is parking for one car at the rear of the apartment, a definite advantage in Edinburgh. The owners are approachable and very helpful, living close by and responding immediately to any queries. The apartment is very roomy, clean, comfortable and warm. As it is on two levels, the stairs may be seen either as an advantage or disadvantage. For a group of adults two of the bedrooms are superior to the third, which lacks en-suite facility and equivalent décor. There is, however, a family bathroom nearby. Lounge and dining room are superior. The kitchen and utility are well-equipped, although bathrooms and sinks throughout are rather dated. (Bathrooms soon to be updated, according to the owners) Overall, this property is an excellent choice.

The apartment will be even more conveniently located when the trams stops steps from the apartment! The appeal of retro bathrooms is rather personal, I agree, and many guests enjoy them, but they will be upgraded this year.

“Perfect for Christmas”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2013

Firstly we would like to say how helpful Hilary and Sandra were both before and during our stay including a very prompt refund of the deposit. The property was very clean and comfortable and was ideal for our extended family group for a Christmas stay. Ample quantities of plates, serving bowls etc for a large group and the dining room was ideal for family meals the lounge also has a great atmosphere and outlook including a beautiful Christmas tree. The location is great for accessing restaurants, shops, Usher Hall etc and even tried a home delivery from "Chop Chop" one of Hilary's recommended restaurants which was excellent. Would definitely stay again.

I agree, the drawing room is lovely at Christmas and New Year. I love the way it catches the sun after the spring Equinox for the long summer evenings as well. Come again!
