Description from owner

Description

'The Byre' is our luxury holiday home, situated in rural tranquillity on the Somerset / Devon border - a perfect location to relax, or explore the surrounding area.

'The Byre' was newly converted from an old farm building in the latter part of 2010 - and has been let out from late 2010. Set in a rural location on the Somerset / Devon border, 'The Byre' is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area or visiting the numerous attractions. It is situated just 200 metres from the Grand Western Canal nature reserve - with excellent walking, fishing and cycling along 12 miles of canal.

Further afield are the historic town of Wellington, the Blackdown Hills and of course the open expanses of Exmoor. The coasts of West Somerset, North Devon, and South Devon, each with their unique features, are also easily accessible

Further details

Normal changeover day is Friday, but this can be flexible outside of the peak season (May - August) and can also be flexible for late bookings subject to availability. The website is set to allow inquiries for any check-in day, but please note we try to restrict this to Friday in the summer in order to keep prices down. Check in is usually 3.30pm; check out 10.00am

Further details indoors

As well as being an excellent base, we set out to make a luxury holiday home as well, so you can relax away from it all. 'The Byre' is furnished throughout in oak and leather, has superior beds and soft furnishings, a fitted kitchen and a state of the art TV (LED backlit with Blu-Ray player / home cinema) plus TV/DVD in both bedrooms.

'The Byre' has a delightful open plan kitchen / dining room / lounge with a newly fitted kitchen, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, ceramic hob and oven. The lounge features under-floor heating, a log-burning fire, and a high definition LED backlit TV, with blu-ray/DVD home cinema, CD player and iPod dock. The master bedroom is furnished in oak, has its own TV/DVD player, and en-suite with shower. The second bedroom features twin beds, convertible to a 'super-king' double bed. This room also features its own TV/DVD player, and gives access to the master (jack-and-jill) bathroom

Further details outdoors

The Byre is situated in an elevated tranquil rural location overlooking open farmland. There is a large terrace, stretching the length of the property with patio doors from both the master bedroom and the lounge. On the terrace is a luxury 6-person hot tub (from Coast Spas) providing perfect relaxation all year round. Private barbecue facilities and seating are also provided. The Byre is just a 200 metre walk from the Grand Western Canal nature reserve - superb for walking, cycling, fishing; hire boats are also available from Tiverton.

“Peace perfect peace”

We love the byre. After a particularly difficult time with ill health this holiday was just what I needed. All you can see is nature and the hot tub is wonderful.

“Fantastic!”

I wanted a relaxing weekend and that was exactly what I had. It is a lovely place and the hot tub definitely made our stay. Thank you Tim for your welcoming gifts. Would definitely recommend!

“Byre Cottage”

This is a fantastic place to go on holiday with beautiful scenery the cottage is a converted barn and has been done out to a high standard cottage is well equipped with hot tub and large garden in a secluded position places of interest are within easy reach with a car I highly recommend this place.

“Tranquillity”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2017

What a lovely place this is, away from all the hussle and bussle of every day life. We had a lovely week here lazing in the hot tub looking out at the beautiful scenery. The cottage was comfortable and had excellent facilities although some miner jobs such as sticking doors and shower enclosure leaks in main bedroom could be sortrd but this is not a problem as it is such a lovely place and the owner Tim friendly and helpful. We will happily go back

“Excellent!!”

“Perfect Getaway”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2017

The Byre is a beautifully renovated barn/Byre, it has everything you could wish for. It is very well equipped and nothing has been scrimped on, from the log burner to the beautiful fluffy towels and lovely decor. My husband and I had a lovely three nights here, walking and exploring by day and relaxing in the gorgeous hot tub in the evening. The scenery is to die for and Tim was very friendly, showing us how to use the hot tub and bringing some logs for the fire. And the cider, cake and local Apple juice was a very welcome treat. We will definitely be back to the Byre ASAP. Thank you.

“Enjoyable stay”

Reviewed 27 Feb 2017

We had a good time, nice accommodation very comfortable beds , everything we needed in the kitchen . Beautiful views over the fields very private . We enjoyed the hot tub so relaxing in the evenings . And easy access to explore the surrounding country side

“Short Family Break”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2016

Family members had stayed there recently. Fine for walking along the canal with and without the dog. Easy access to Exmoor but needed the 4x4 for some of the flooded roads that week. Furniture and fittings fine but electric stove difficult to get used to particularly for gas uses at home. Owner visited to check if all was OK.

“Almost Perfect”

Reviewed 2 Jul 2016

Lovely location, great accommodation a nice home away from home. The only reason it was not five stars was the poor TV reception (BBC only) and the dirty oven.

“Perfect!”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2013

We stayed at The Byre this weekend (7th-10th June) and me and my partner loved everything about it. The cottage itself its very well furnished with good taste very homely. The area around The Byre is unspoilt and the views are stunning. Wellington town is only 10 minuet drive with shops and few local pubs. Also just down the drive from The Brye is a gorgeous walk along the canel, If you want a quiet easy weekend/week away this is 100% the place. Will defiantly be coming back.
