Further details indoors

As well as being an excellent base, we set out to make a luxury holiday home as well, so you can relax away from it all. 'The Byre' is furnished throughout in oak and leather, has superior beds and soft furnishings, a fitted kitchen and a state of the art TV (LED backlit with Blu-Ray player / home cinema) plus TV/DVD in both bedrooms.

'The Byre' has a delightful open plan kitchen / dining room / lounge with a newly fitted kitchen, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, ceramic hob and oven. The lounge features under-floor heating, a log-burning fire, and a high definition LED backlit TV, with blu-ray/DVD home cinema, CD player and iPod dock. The master bedroom is furnished in oak, has its own TV/DVD player, and en-suite with shower. The second bedroom features twin beds, convertible to a 'super-king' double bed. This room also features its own TV/DVD player, and gives access to the master (jack-and-jill) bathroom

Further details outdoors

The Byre is situated in an elevated tranquil rural location overlooking open farmland. There is a large terrace, stretching the length of the property with patio doors from both the master bedroom and the lounge. On the terrace is a luxury 6-person hot tub (from Coast Spas) providing perfect relaxation all year round. Private barbecue facilities and seating are also provided. The Byre is just a 200 metre walk from the Grand Western Canal nature reserve - superb for walking, cycling, fishing; hire boats are also available from Tiverton.

Location description from owner

The England region

The Byre is situated in the heart of the rural West Country on the Devon / Somerset border. The warmer climate provides for excellent local produce and the area is famous for some of its superb cider (why not visit one of our local cider farms to try the real thing!).

The delightful Grand Western Canal nature reserve / country park is right on our doorstep. This fascinating 12 mile canal is all that was built of a much more ambitious project (the intention being to link Taunton with Exeter and beyond). It is now a haven for wildlife, and fish and is an excellent location to start exploring the local area, on foot or by bike (the towpath is superb for children, being flat, and of course, completely free of motorised traffic)

Within easy reach are the sandy beaches of the south Devon coast, or the surfers paradise in north Devon (Croyde, Wollacombe and Saunton Sands are all top family favourites)

Just 30 minutes away are the open expanses of Exmoor, truly deserving its status as an area of outstanding natural beauty, with numerous opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding or just enjoying nature at her best.

West Country

The nearest town to 'The Byre' is Wellington (8km), featuring convenient supermarkets, surrounded by local independent stores and excellent restaurants for all the family. Taunton (the county town) famous for cider, cricket, and much more is just 17km away and features more extensive shopping and entertainment, including multi-screen cinemas, bowling etc.

There are numerous attractions for family days out. Children will love 'Diggerland', 'Wookey Hole', 'Woodlands', 'Tropiquaria', and 'Crealy' adventure park - but there are many others. The Fleet Air Arm museum near Yeovil is also an excellent family day out.

“Short Family Break”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2016

Family members had stayed there recently. Fine for walking along the canal with and without the dog. Easy access to Exmoor but needed the 4x4 for some of the flooded roads that week. Furniture and fittings fine but electric stove difficult to get used to particularly for gas uses at home. Owner visited to check if all was OK.

“Almost Perfect”

Reviewed 2 Jul 2016

Lovely location, great accommodation a nice home away from home. The only reason it was not five stars was the poor TV reception (BBC only) and the dirty oven.

“Perfect!”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2013

We stayed at The Byre this weekend (7th-10th June) and me and my partner loved everything about it. The cottage itself its very well furnished with good taste very homely. The area around The Byre is unspoilt and the views are stunning. Wellington town is only 10 minuet drive with shops and few local pubs. Also just down the drive from The Brye is a gorgeous walk along the canel, If you want a quiet easy weekend/week away this is 100% the place. Will defiantly be coming back.
