Location description from owner

The England region

Warwickshire and The Cotswolds offers beautiful countryside and wonderful old towns and villages to explore. To the south of Stratford through the Cotswold towns of Chipping Campden, Chipping Norton and Broadway, and a visit to Blenheim Palace at Woodstock.

To the east the magnificent Warwick Castle, dating from the 10th century, the most complete mediaeval castle anywhere, with daily attractions including the latest: Merlin: Dragon Tower. North of Stratford the beautiful high street of Henley-in-Arden with over 150 listed and historic interest buildings.

Welford on Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon is the birthplace of the greatest English poet and playwright, William Shakespeare, and nestles on the meandering River Avon. The town still retains its old market town feel and has a wealth of magnificent historic buildings and museums. SItes to explore include Shakespeare's birthplace, Nash's House, Hall's Croft, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Mary Arden's House and Holy Trinity Church, Shakespeare's last resting place.

And of course a must place to visit is the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre with its thrust stage, making you feel part of the play. The theatre is also celebrating its 50th year, with a host of additional events.

Stratford is also home to an abundant array of boutique shops and excellent restaurants. Or you could just relax in the Bancroft Gardens, take a boat trip on the River, or visit the Butterfly Farm.

Welford on Avon is just 4 miles from Stratford and boasts excellent river side walks, three excellent quality pubs offering good food, near to the Greenway Cycle path, and a peaceful tranquil setting. Welford is a great place to relax after a busy day touring this wonderful county.

“Spacious & Comfortable Lodging”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2016

Sheelagh was an incredibly gracious host. She clearly enjoys meeting people and wants them to have the best stay possible. The modern and spotless studio was huge! We had everything we needed to cook breakfasts, pack lunches, and heat up "take away" dinners. When we weren't able to find a cold pack and a cooler bag the first day she loaned us one of hers. She had a washer but no dryer. When I hadn't taken that into consideration she offered to run our load of dirty clothes, hang them out while we were sightseeing and bring them in before we arrived home. We loved our two night stay!

“Hidden gem, fantastic value.”

My husband and I were visiting Stratford-upon-Avon for a friends wedding and found this accommodation when we discovered most of the hotels were fully booked - and we were exceptionally glad we did! Sheelagh was exceptionally welcoming, offering us everything we could need for our stay. The apartment is like a home from home and much better than staying in a characterless hotel room. The location itself is around 5 miles from Stratford in the very picturesque village of Welford. One evening we had a few drinks in a lovely local pub, The Bell Inn, which is a short walk from the apartment. On the second day we took a taxi to Stratford for the wedding which cost between £13 and £15 each way which isn't the cheapest but we'd much rather pay this and stay here. You will need a car if you stay here but I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great base for a getaway in the area. We'll be back!

“Great place, location, people”

Very friendly and welcoming people, the studio is a lot more spacious than we thought and is well looked after. Would definitely recommend and go again. Thanks.

“Far from the madding crowd but entirely accessible”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2012

A wholly adequate place to stay and whilst we are not very experienced in these matters would say that this is very much an under-priced offerings in comparison with most on offer. Friendly and very welcoming service with comfortable, clean and convenient accommodation. What more could you ever want ? Thanks very much to the proprietors.

“Amazing Property, Fantastic People!”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2012

My partner and I stayed here for my Birthday for a long weekend and have to say it was AMAZING! Sheelagh Rose was lovely and left us a nice little welcome of treats. Studio was not only clean but modern and very cosy. My partner and I usually struggle to sleep anywhere else other than our own house/bed but this was home from home. Lie in's on both mornings so also a major bonus! Village itself has 3 lovely pubs but if you are happy having a longer walk around the river's edge, we would definately recommend The Four Alls. A taxi into Stratford Town Centre at around 6 30 cost us £12 with 007 Taxi's and on return at around 10 30 about £13. Be aware though that after midnight, it does go up to time and a half. All in all, Sheelagh has done an amazing job with their property and we will be going back in the near future.

“Wish I Could Keep This To Myself!”

Reviewed 26 Jan 2012

Orchard Lodge is an absolute delight. It is a hidden gem in a beautiful part of rural Warwickshire (I would say a car is pretty much essential) that is within striking distance of Stratford upon Avon. If you are looking for an escape for one or two people or you need to say "stop the world I want to get off" for a few days, then Orchard Lodge is perfect. Quiet, spotlessly clean, beautifully finished and furnished to a very high standard it is better than a home from home! Sheelagh and Alan are exceptional hosts, warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. Like I say, I wish I could keep this one to myself ~ I can imagine returning to this little bolt hole again and again!

“The perfect way to recover from the trip from Australia, we would do it again”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2011

Orchard Lodge was within easy driving distance from Heathrow and easily manageable following the long flight from Australia. Our hosts Sheelagh and Alan were welcoming, helpful and not intrusive. The accommodation was just perfect for us. It was light, airy and really comfortable and very clean and all the facilities we needed were provided. The village of Welford on Avon is a quiet , picturesque village, just what you need to recover from jetlag. There is plenty of opportunity for walking and discovering interesting places around the village. The pubs offer great meals so we went to both as well as cooking in the flat. it is close to Stratford, Warwick, Cotswold Villages, Oxford and Coventry and in 3 days with the long hours of daylight we were able comfortably manage all that. There was nothing about Orchard Lodge not to like. A great place to stay!

“Excellent apartment, excellent hosts”

Sheelagh and Alan provide a very comfortable apartment for 2. The apartment is modern and ideally located for exploring Stratford and the Cotswolds, in beautiful Welford. Sheelagh and Alan are very gracious and accommodating hosts.
