From the owner

The house has been with holiday lettings for 11 years due to change to trip advisor all reviews have been lost. Careys sits in open spaces on a hillside surrounded by mountains .. The river Inny with its trout and salmon runs through the land. Behind the house there is a bog road with acres of undisturbed heather trees and birdlife many pheasants and hares. We choose not to have wi fi or tv as our guests enjoy the solitude and peace We are in one of Europes dark sky areas so on clear nights the sky and area is fantastic.

Easy access to some of the finest blue flag beaches in Europe 2 miles away, including Ballinskelligs. One of the worlds best 18 hole links golf course 7 km away. Other local activities include sea fishing, lake fishing and scuba diving. Fantastic cycling over mountains and hills on quite roads .Cycle hire 8 miles away .Great walking includes The Kerry Way,.Local horseriding.. Careys is a short drive from the famous tourist town of Portmagee where there is regular Irish set dancing in this picturesque fishing port on the edge of the Atlantic where the boat trips leave for the famous Skelligs Rock as featured in Starwars. The boat trip offers opportunities to see Puffins, seals, Minky wales and other sea life. .

The area is also a wealth of Megalithic standing stones which help to give a sense of place in history. In more modern times the first transatlantic cable was laid from nearby Waterville.

The accommodation includes A large dining /living area with a range for heating, in addition there is a snug room with open fireplace. Plus a further kitchen area with electric stove, microwave and all basic kitchen utensils. There is also a downstairs shower and toilet and boot area.

Upstairs there is a bathroom with toilet, l double bedded room, one room with 3 single beds can be turned into a double and a single bed and one single room, all with great views out over the mountains opposite.

Outside there is a stone Barbque and rustic seating plus outside garden furniture and views that are always changing with the cloud formations over the river, sea and mountains.

Old, very basic and NO garden

While the location in relation to South Kerry was good the house itself is very old with issues like very poor water pressure, window hinges damaged, etc. To our huge disappointment there is NO garden… More

Sorry that you were disappointed. The house is based on 90 acres, with the River Inny at the bottom of the land and a magical bog road if a little overgrown. . There is still a space for outside seating, with a built in simple BBQ and chairs and table with views to die for. There is fencing around because cattle graze the land. However we do get midgies during sunrise and sunset in the summer. Due to covid we were only able to deal with major problems in the house and I take note of window hinges and thank you for pointing them out.

Our aim is to provide an away from it all quite and peaceful experience as there is so much to enjoy in the immediate area with rivers, mountains , green space and fishing and water sports. .
