Description

This beautiful 18th century cottage has a large garden across from the terrace that extends right down to the shore, a wonderful place from where to watch the famous Waternish sunsets: a majestic seascape with the backdrop of the Western Isles dotted like jewels along the horizon. The cottage itself is equally as atmospheric, built in 1750 with many period features and an open fire for those cooler nights. If only the 3ft thick stone walls could speak they would tell of many a clan battle or Highland skirmish! 50 metres from the property is a 'Dark Sky' location where you can look at the incredible stars and if you are lucky see the Northern Lights.

This delightful cosy cottage has a large entrance hall, kitchen/diner and a lounge with stone fire place. Upstairs you have a twin and double room, also a spacious fully-fitted shower room . Location description from owner

The Scotland region

David and Alison, your warm hosts would be delighted to welcome you to this most idyllic corner of Skye where you can undertake seal & whale spotting tours, fishing trips, kayaking, diving and fine mountaineering or rock climbing. Nearby you will find the ancient clan stronghold of the Chief Macleod, Dunvegan Castle and gardens. Cliff top walks with panoramic vistas to the Western Isles or gentle ambles to beautiful coral beaches are easily accessible. Not to mention the splendours of the Cuillins, Loch Coruisk, Quiraing, Rasaay and the Old Man of Storr all within around 40mins drive.

Due to the magnificent views of the ever-changing seascape, Waternish has become a mecca for artists and craft workers, you will therefore find many fine galleries and workshops within walking distance. Additionally this area is within short range of two accredited Dark Sky viewing sites – bring your binoculars! The stars here are amazing. This makes the cottages perfect for a romantic getaway for two or an action packed holiday with a family of four. Cyclists and motor bikers are most welcome.

Stein itself is a conservation village which was designed originally by Telford as a model fishing at the end of the 18th Century. Now you will find the oldest Inn on Skye, the Stein Inn and the highly acclaimed Lochbay Restaurant run by the renowned Michael Smith and his wife, Laurance.

Waternish

Waternish is a beautiful peninsula with a number of excellent craft businesses working there. The coastal scenery is spectacular looking over to the Western Isles. Dunvegan is 8 miles away, where there is a good array of shops for your grocery needs, a couple of excellent bakeries, plus a number of cafes and restaurants. Petrol can also be obtained here. Portree is 22 miles way, the capital of Skye, certainly worth a day's trip to.
