Description

St Pancras Chapel is a converted C13th stone chapel with exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace, the original medieval door and window arches (with stained glass window) and a billiard table. It is set in just under an acre of kitchen gardens, lawns and an orchard, with a stream running out from the medieval holy well and under bridges. Facilities include electric oven and hob, an oil-fired Aga hob and oven range, and a fully equipped kitchen with all mod cons. There is garden furniture, as well as a summerhouse next to the stream and a barbecue for dining outside.

St Pancras Chapel lies deep in the heart of the West Somerset countryside, on the edge of Exmoor. While there are a number of local amenities within walking distance – including excellent pubs, a general store and post office – to get the most from the area, the use of a car or bicycles is recommended. Car or bike hire can be arranged in advance.

Interaction with guest

The manager at St Pancras Chapel will show guests around the property when they arrive. She is very happy to share her extensive local knowledge about where to go and what to do, including local places of interest and walking routes. She can be contacted throughout the guests' stay and can even book outward-bound activities such as rock-climbing and kayaking – and can even organise home-cooked meals for a small fee!

“New Year at the chapel”

We had an amazing time staying at the chapel for a 4 night break. There were 6 of us plus dogs and we walked a marathon in 3 days!!! The chapel was well equipped and the pool table and aga were a great added bonus. The beds were extra comfy and the garden was great. Thanks for a fantastic break.

I'm really glad you had a good time – I genuinely love having guests who love the chapel and area as much as I do, Jane and I would be privileged to have you stay again. For a cottage in the middle of the countryside, there is a surprising amount of stuff to see and do, I'm glad you made the most of the area – and of course the White Horse! (Tim and the staff are always very welcoming whenever my family goes there – which is every time we stay at the Chapel!) It's also nice to hear you made the most of the house, the snooker table is a favourite of mine – and the library is a work in progress, I don't suppose I shall stop collecting books to appeal to all tastes until there is no more room for bookshelves (and we're a long way from that!). Glad also that your dogs had a good time – we're committed dog-lovers too and it's a great spot with the big closed garden and Exmoor right on the doorstep. Incidentally, I don't know if you knew, but the spring in the garden is one of the holy wells of Somerset and probably predates the Chapel (which itself was built around 1200AD) – and perhaps even Christianity. “Lovely cottage with a beautiful garden”

The chapel was everything we had hoped for, very clean and comfortable. The garden was beautiful with all the spring flowers in bloom and dog safe as fully enclosed. The cottage was warm and cozy with good sized rooms. We had 2 good meals at The White Horse which is just a 5 minute walk up the road. It has a nice garden too. We never tire of Dunster or Lynmouth and enjoy the river walk at The Tarr Steps. We would happily stay here again in this quirky, pretty cottage. Thank you Jason and Jane for your help.
