Location description from owner

The England region

Derbyshire and the Peak District is an area that has something to offer for everyone. Why not walk through the Peak District in England's first national park? It has spectacular scenery and cosy pubs across its 500 miles of beauty. There is also a rich cultural heritage across the area, starting with Chatsworth House where Pride and Prejudice was recently filmed. There are also many lively and friendly towns to visit across the region, from Matlock to Derby, where you can shop to your hearts delight in the high street shops, farmers markets or craft fairs.

Warren Carr

The Hayloft is situated about half way between Matlock and Bakewell, a little off the beaten track but not isolated and is an ideal base for walking holidays and exploring the dales and peaks of beautiful Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park.

Matlock and Matlock Bath sit on the edge of the Peak District on the banks of the River Derwent, and are former spa towns. There is plenty to see with the former spa now used as council offices for the surrounding area and Riber Castle high on a hill was built by Smedley who introduced the spa to Matlock. There are numerous shops and good transport links to other areas of interest. Bakewell is a lovely old market town full of interesting shops, restaurants and cafes. The beautiful historic houses of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are only 10 minutes away from The Hayloft and Kedleston is 30 minutes. Numerous villages have Well Dressings during the summer and there is Carsington Water just 20 minutes away and the sensational dams of Derwent Water and Ladybower Reservoir only 40 minutes away. Just a mile away you will find Peak Rail with its old steam trains and Red House Stables where you can ride in a carriage and four. There are also the Tissington and Monsal Trails where you can walk and ride your own bike or hire one for the day.

“Great location, lovely accommodation”

Reviewed 20 Mar 2013

The Hayloft is petite and cosy. Although it looks small, I stayed with my partner and dog and there was ample room. The accomodation was also very clean and tidy. The location is great, lovely views and plenty of nearby walks. It does however adjoin the owners property and is straight opposite is another letting cottage perhaps not made clear on the advertisement so if you are looking for seclusion this may not be for you, but there was no one in the other cottage while we were there and we rarely caught sight of the owners so it was fine. Overall I would recommend The Hayloft.

“Lovely cosy apartment with everything I needed.”

Reviewed 20 Nov 2012

I booked this apartment / cottage with the intention of going walking in the Peak District. It ticked all the boxes: I needed Internet access (to keep in touch) , a LCD television and DVD player (for the evenings), a pub nearby, a cooker and microwave and comfort. It has all of them - the bed was really comfortable and I had no trouble sleeping. The kitchen facilities are very good and the Freesat and TV work well. The nearby pub (0.6 miles on my car milometer to the Three Stags) I did not use because I was too tired to walk any more after several hours walking. The local area is a treat: Stanton Moor is worth a walk. All in All I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Hayloft, Cherry (the owner) proving to a most pleasant and accommodating host.

“Excellent!”

Truly excellent holiday let! We book a lots of weeks away in holiday cottages around the UK & this one was one of if not THE best. Very well maintained, cute petite holiday property. Couldn't fault anything. Steps to property & parking were as described and is ideally suited for those of good mobility. Would 100% recommend this property to those seeking a peaceful pretty property in a lovely location but a short 5 minute drive to Darley Bridge Village & 10 minutes into Matlock.

“A little bit of heaven in Warren Carr, Derbyshire”

The Hayloft Barn proved to be a perfect choice for our two week stay. We had a very warm welcome from Cherry, the owner and her golden labrador, Chloe. The cottage was quirky and very comfortable, with all the amenities you need for your stay. It was well situated for visits to surrounding villages and especially Chatsworth House. The new Westfield Shopping Centre in Derby was also only 30 minutes drive away through some lovely countryside. The gardens were beautiflly kept and it was a joy to enjoy freshly laid eggs courtesy of Cherry's own hens. The local pub, The Three Stags Heads, was a delight, full of local characters and very welcoming. All in all, a great location and would recommend it to anyone. We are plannng a return visit later - can't wait!
