“Made to feel quite unwelcome!”

Reviewed 11 Dec 2016

We had great time, but experience was marred by a number of things that ultimately left us feeling unwelcome. Major gripe was that there was no toilet roll, missing light bulbs, and we were misled regarding the fireplace which turned out to be fake and didn't work! Very old tired bed linen (found old stain on sheet). No comment book/instructions left for where to leave rubbish bags etc. Having paid an extra £10 for a dog we were surprised to find the carpets full of sand and grime on our arrival. We also had to deal with new lock being fixed on front door. We were only there 3 nights. Loved Walton-on-the- naze however. We had to pay a large booking fee which was a first for us when booking with Holiday Lettings, so feel a bit let down by them also. This was a treat for us and not cheap so felt dissappointed by lack of care.

Please call 07795662877 if you have a problem during your stay. We always try to rectify any problems as soon as possible as we just want our guests to have the best possible time. I am so sorry you felt unwelcome. I was told earlier that day that my cancer is growing so I may not have been as concerned about toilet paper as I should have been when I spoke to you!! With regard to the fireplace, firstly we did not mislead you. It is not a fake. It actually works, although there is nothing in our property description to say it does! When I spoke to you, there were 6 people including children in the apartment and I felt it better you did not use the fire in such a small space with so many people. The gas central heating is super efficient and perfectly adequate to heat the apartment. In fact it ensures you are toastie warm when you come in from that bracing walk along the beach when the surf is up and the winds are high. There were a couple of light bulbs missing and maybe they aren't checked on every clean, but there are so many as we have 2 chandeliers in the living room and another in the bedroom. The sheets are cleaned either at the dry cleaners or in the cleaners home and are renewed on a regular basis. I will look into this but know we have replaced several sets already this year. We would never knowingly put a stained sheet on the bed and will check now that you have said this, that all are ok. There is a sheet with all information re where to put the rubbish etc, that is kept on the sideboard although sometimes the guests may put it in the drawer of the sideboard. Again I will check that this is left out in future. A hose on the vac was damaged and now that has been replaced there should be no issues re the sand and cleaning. Unfortunately it took a while for our cleaner to mention this but the problem is now resolved. I would also mention that our flat is 'dog friendly' and everyone who stays knows this from our listing. If you have a dog you know how hard it is to get every bit of sand, so now the Henry hoover is fully functional all should be good as it possibly can! I mentioned to you that the front door lock of the building was being replaced before your arrival. I really don't think you had to 'deal' with anything as this did not affect your stay in the apartment. It took a few minutes for this to be done and our maintenance man left you a key. Had you been out, he would have left the key in the key safe where all the keys are left for our guests. I cannot comment on the way Holiday Lettings charge you, but can only say that it is your choice who you book with. For your information, none of your money is given to us until after your first nights stay. I can assure you and all other guests and prospective guests, we do everything in our power to make sure you have the best break/holiday with us. We are always at the end of the phone. You are given our number and are asked to call us if we can help you in any way. Seaspray was primarily renovated for our own use. We put a lot of love and a great deal of time and effort into creating somewhere we think is just a bit special and we are happy to share it with our guests. Once again I apologise if you felt unhappy about our conversation. I have to admit I was a little more worried about the results I received earlier that day. I hope you found something positive about your trip to Walton. Gill
