Description from owner

Description

QUAYSIDE COTTAGE is a stylish detached one-bedroomed bungalow sitting in the grounds of Quayside on the banks of the magnificent River Deben at Waldringfield. This is one of two holiday cottages that sits in the grounds of Quayside - the other is THE BOATHOUSE (also see The Boathouse at Quayside on the River Deben).

We have our own quay, making it ideal for boating (rowing boat available) and fishing (in particular sea bass during the summer).

This is a tranquil and picturesque coastal village, with a keen sailing community and boatyard where river cruises operate May to September, Arts and Crafts Studio with resident artist providing art lessons on request, beachfront pub dining (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and an excellent 18-hole golf course.

There are three properties in the grounds of Quayside: two stylish detached holiday cottages and the main residence occupied by us, Ged and Donna Morgan and our son Stuart. Each property has its own parking area and bicycle

Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

Affectionately known as 'the sunshine coast', Suffolk is reputedly the dryest county in England. Famous for Adnams local ale, friendly farmshops selling local produce and breathtaking rural scenery from the olde english charm of Lavenham in the heart of the county, out to the coastal beauty of Southwold, Aldeburgh, Felixstowe and the river estuaries leading to Orford, Woodbridge, Ipswich are just a few to mention.

This is a relaxed pace of life which can be contrasted with the buzz of London by train in just an hour.

Places of interest: Sutton Hoo, Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Aldeburgh, Snape, Southwold, Orford, Minsmere, Walberswick, Flatford and Dedham (Constable Country), Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge.
London - 1 hour by train

Waldringfield

The market town of Woodbridge sits on the banks of the River Deben, once the only transport route by sailing barge to trade goods. Today's barges cruise the river for pleasure and are a sight to behold.

The River Deben is one of the finest estuaries to shape this Suffolk coastline. Approximately 9 miles of navigable water and in parts up to half a mile wide. Quayside sits on the banks of the river, in the village of Waldringfield which is about mid way, on the west bank.

This is a tranquil and picturesque coastal village, with a keen sailing community and boatyard where river cruises operate May to September, Arts and Crafts Studio with resident artist providing art lessons on request and beachfront pub dining (breakfast, lunch, dinner). We have an unusually high number of quality golf courses a short drive from your cottage, plus our own excellent 18-hole course here in the village. Newbourne Farm Shop and The Fox Inn are just a couple of miles away in the next village and a short drive to the market town of Woodbridge where you will be spoilt for choice with more excellent pub food.

The area is famously known for Sutton Hoo, where England's oldest history (dating over 1300 years) was unearthed with the discovery of the ship burial of an anglo-saxon warrior king and his treasures.

Today these waters are alive with sails delivering the grandest of sailing barges to the most modest of fishing smacks.

At Quayside the shore is yours to lap up the atmosphere. You may choose to take to the water, fish from the quay, or just sit and be entertained.

Look out for the seals!

“A beautiful peaceful retreat”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2015

We visited Quayside Cottage for one week and had a lovely relaxing holiday. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The owners Donna and Ged were very helpful in recommending places to visit, and the cottage has lots of information about the area. We enjoyed easy countryside walks and visited a number of historical sites in the area. The view of the river and boats from the conservatory is amazing and the garden is the perfect place to enjoy the view with a glass of wine after a busy day sightseeing. We enjoyed a few meals at the nearby local pub which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner most days. Would definitely return to Quayside Cottage in the future.

Thank you Gwen. It was lovely to see you and Ian and we will hope to see you again soon. Best wishes, Donna and Ged xx

Directly overlooks the estuary with use of creekside garden. Owners on site - friendly and helpful but not obtrusive. Local pub with food one minute's stroll so no need to cook but superb views of water from your conservatory for at home dining! Excellent walking area. Everything that makes for a good, relaxing and interesting holiday.

Thank you Ron and Barbara. So glad you had a good stay. Hope to see you again some time. Very best wishes, Donna and Ged

“A lovely weekend”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2014

A warm welcome from Donna and Ged to their lovely cottage in an excellent location. The cottage is very well equipped and in very good condition. There are some brilliant views over the river from the conservatory and quay side. We enjoyed two meals in the May Bush only a short walk away. We completed the Adnams 5 mile circular pub walk. The leaflet instructions were easy to follow and the route in good condition. We would return to Quayside cottage for another relaxing break.

Thank you, Roy and Linda. It was good to meet you and we're really pleased you enjoyed your break. Hope to see you again soon. Best wishes, Donna and Ged
