A relaxing getaway away from the tourist hordes, but also within easy reach of the treasures of Florence, Siena and Pisa. Seaside is forty minutes' drive. Ideal for culture vultures, walking or for hardy bikers who like challenging hills!
Standing on a small hillock immediately off the road, Tuscan Skies has magnificent views all round. To one side, Volterra "city of magic and mystery" stands on top of one side of the valley, while ancient Montecatini Val di Cecina sits on the other.
Tuscan Skies was built as two separate apartments which we have joined as one property. As a result, there is ample, airy space for our guests to relax and enjoy themselves. Guests always comment on the high quality of furnishings as well as its wonderful location.
On the upper floor are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room; the Courtyard Room and Terrace Room (with top quality sofabed) share a large shower room. The Terrace Room has access to a small terrace - ideal for sitting in the evening. This room can double up as a relaxing lounge. There is a substantial, fully-equipped kitchen/living room with magnificent views to Volterra..
The lower floor has a double room with four-poster bed. This floor has its own comfortable living area with fully-appointed kitchen and separate large shower room. There is a comfortable double bed settee downstairs so that the living area can be used as an additional bedroom. The downstairs area has seating for eight. The private garden with barbecue overlooks Val di Cecina and Montecatini.
All beds are queen size.
External access to the upper floor is via the courtyard and to the lower floor via the garden entrance.

The Tuscany region
A magical area of Tuscany, almost equal distance from Pisa, Siena and Florence. A quiet retreat in the beautiful countryside away from the tourism of Chiantishire, this is the real Tuscany. Beautiful towns like San Gimignano are just 30 minutes' drive.
Andrea Bocelli's hometown of Lajatico and his serene Teatro del Silenzio is 15 minutes away. Views of historical Volterra and the ancient Etruscan township of Montecatini Val di Cecina from the property.
Florence is not to be missed (though best avoided in the mid-day heat of summer - go early or late in the day). Siena has its own fabulous atmosphere, especially the Campo where the palio horse race is run twice a year. And you will be amazed by the Leaning Tower of Pisa; you have seen it in thousands of pictures, but seeing the real thing is an experience you should not miss.
There are excellent beaches near Cecina (40 minutes' drive), or visit Viareggio for a different seaside experience.
You do not need to spend all day in the car to see soem wonderful sights. There are dozens of mediaeval villages and spa towns to visit. As well, you can drop it at many vineyards and farms to taste their own wines, olive oil and other produce.
Volterra has Etruscan, Roman and mediaeval remains, including an impressive Roman theatre, plus several museums. The main traditional industry is alabaster, and there are plenty of shops/workshops where you can see alabaster products being made.
There are festivals virtually every week in one or other of the local towns. Volterra's best festival is Volterra AD1398. It takes place over two weekends in August. The centre of the town is sealed off and given over to middle ages stalls, children's games and sports such as tug-o'-war and crossbow contests. At other times there are flag-throwing contests, food markets and street theatre.
For 'New Moon' fans, there are guided tours. The tourist information office has free maps of locations from the book.
Excellent restaurants are to be found not only in Volterra but in all of the local villages. The nearest village is Saline di Volterra. Apart from some fine local eateries, there is a good range of food shops.

"Home from home with a view to die for!"
A charming apartment in a wonderful location. There was plenty of room for 8 people to have their own space but to also get together for meals etc. There was more than enough equipment, both in the house and for outside (chairs and loungers). As a party of 8 adults we had to be creative with sleeping arrangements, as downstairs only has one true bedroom. This bedroom also has no air con and felt dark and stuffy in spite of the fans provided. Having said that, we had no complaints and the owners were very helpful in making suggestions to accommodate our needs. The views around the whole property are breathtaking, including Volterra on a distant hill. The pool is large and clean but was busy at times (mid August). The local town is only a couple of miles away but a car is necessary to explore further afield. Overall we had a relaxing holiday in a stunning location.

"Amaizing palace and lovely, helpful people"
In June we spent a fantastic week with 3 kids in Tuscan Skies. The booking process was incredibly easy and the owner is very helpful. Jill, the local representative was a great help all the way through. The apartment is great, very tastefully decorated, clean, comfortable and really well equipped. It truly felt like home. The kids enjoyed the pool very much. We spent lovely mornings and evenings in the pretty garden and enjoyed the barbecue too. It is a tranquil place and the view around is amazing. We would definitely recommend it to families with children. Beata
Thanks for your kind comments, Beata. We are always delighted to hear that guests have enjoyed their stay. We promise you something special, and it is pleasing to us that 'Tuscan Skies' has been your base for a great vacation.

"Most beautiful and wonderful vacation for my family"
Tuscan Skies was absolutely lovely. The owners are incredible and Jill the manager was so helpful. This holiday rental has everything to include NO INTERNET which was wonderful for the family. The teenagers actually played games, took a swim in the awesome pool and talked. Location was outstanding. Very close to beach and awesome historical sites. Amazing area. I would recommend this location and Tuscan Skies to anyone wanting to get away while enjoying a wonderful vacation. I would highly recommend Tuscan Skies. Incredible rental.
We are so pleased you enjoyed it so much. We tell people the area is wonderful, but they don't always believe our word! It's great to have your endorsement. You will be pleased to know we will be making the property even more comfortable in the next couple of months.

"A home away from home under the Tuscan Skies"
Myself and my extended family (7 adults, 3 children) spent a very plesant week in Tuscan Skies villa. From the moment of booking Chris was extremely helpful and this helpfulness continued in Italy with his Kiwi Representative Jill, who couldn't do enough to help. The villa has everything you need for a self catering holiday, or if like us, you mainly ate out, is not too far from the villages of Volterra or Saline de Volterra for some lovely restaurants (just beware the windy roads and mad drivers!) The bedrooms were all a good size, very comfortable, and the shutters meant you had a great nights sleep. The swimming pool was a much needed respite from the Tuscan sun. Very relaxing trip, and beautiful villas, will definitely recommend.

"How to chill in the heat"
We went to Tuscan Skies after a complicated house move and desperately in need of a break. The apartment is so well equipped and comfortable that we were able to start relaxing immediately. The pool helped too. It is situated in an ideal place as there are local shops for basic necessities a few minutes drive away and not much further is Volterra, a wonderfully interesting and historic hill town. The landscape is rolling and very agricultural: crops were being cut during our stay and the Spar shop in Saline offered locally grown apricots at a snip. We also loved the restaurant in the square at Montecatini; lots of local atmosphere in the evening there too. All in all a brilliant week; wish it had been longer.
We can't imagine a more relaxing escape after you've moved house, especially after the delays! One of the joys of the farming landscape is that the colours change all of the time. Even though we know the view so well, we still want to keep taking n3ew photos of it because it changes so much with the season and the lighting conditions. We trust that you are now fully settled into your new home.

"Stunning views and everything you need."
Spacious accommodation and well equipped. Very good location for visiting Florence, Pisa and Sienna, as well as many pretty and historic villages. Garden and pool pleasant to sit out in the sun.
We try to equip it to make your stay as near perfect as we can. The one thing we resist is installing Internet access. Sorry, but we want Tuscan Skies to be an escape.

My wife and I stayed here with friends for 1 week, mid-august 2010. We flew from Gatwick to Pisa where we hired a car and drove the 45 mins or so to the barn conversion. The directions were good but our faith in our map reading ability wasn't. Definitely keep a picture of the front gates handy when travelling there for the first time. The accomodation was perfect for our needs. My partner and I stayed in the downstairs double room which had a bathroom and kitchen next to it and our friends with young son stayed in the double and single room upstairs which also had its own bathroom and kitchen. The whole appartment was furnished to a high specification which meant we ate in more than we expected to enjoyed our suroundings. The pool was great to cool off in whilst looking at the Tuscan hills. Considering there were other people staying in the development, we had the pool to ourselves on the couple of occasions we went down which we liked. The Location was perfect for my wife, who is a massive fan of the Twilight books, to see Volterra and fantasise about running up the bell tower. There was a festival on whilst we were there which took over the whole town and had a great buzz about it and there are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat and a souvenir or two. Montecatini and Sienna are also worth a visit if you can venture further than the appartment. I'd also recommend heading to the local vinyards to pick up a litre or 2 of the local wine which was delicious and well priced.
There are still loads of Twilight lovers visiting. Volterra is known as the city of magic and mystery, and it suits the Twilight mood. Sorry about the directions! We keep on improving them to make them as easy as possible to follow.

"It's so good we booked it again for 2012."
Less than an hour drive from Pisa airport and situated in a quiet/private area the property is an ideal base to explore this part of Tuscany from. Volterra (20 minute drive) is a wonderful, ancient town, which quickly became a favourite place to visit, day or night. The property itself "does what it says in the adverts" in that it was spotlessly clean and contained everything a holiday home could possibly need. A late afternoon swim in the outdoor pool soon became a favourite option, often followd by an early evening barbeque. All in all we would have no hesitation in recommending this property, and can't wait to be back there later this year.
We're glad it was as good as we had promised. We want 'Tuscan Skies' to be a home from home, not just a holiday let, and it's good to hear you had everything you needed. We hope your stay this year is even better!

"The Dream Vacation in Tuscany!"
Fabulous Stay, Gorgeous, truly a dream on all levels. Location, setting, and the charm of the hills. We adored our stay in our dual kitchen apartment. Our young adults, 25,26 and 29 where upstairs and our evening gatherings where downstairs in the lower cucina. There was no need to leave except for a visit to Firenza, San Giminagno, Sienna and Volterra which were a lovely drives away. It was just pleasant to dine in ! We rented Motorcycles which added such flavor to pulling up to our charming ESTATE of a FARM and drive up the path to heaven!. Quite, and Gorgeous... The deer, rabbits and local farm animals surrounding us and the city of Volterra to our Backs lit up our Tuscan Skies !!! Can not wait to return! Our apartment kept all 5 of us completely content, relaxed and in love with our choice! TIPS: watch out for Speed cameras!! Wake up early and catch the View from each window, balcony, and courtyard! :) Buona Fortuna!
The views really are marvellous from every angle. Because the light changes all the time, it's as if it's a fresh view every time you see it! We've seen the photos you posted of your stay, and you certainly seem to have had some fabulous meals.
