Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Siena is a major Tuscan city in the south of the region. It has a large medieval centre which includes the half finished cathedral (Duomo) with its gilded facade. The other famous attraction is the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, the town square, which houses the Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia, and is famous for hosting the Palio horse race every July.

Pisa is a major Tuscan town in the East of the region, world famous for its leaning tower.

Florence doesn't need any introduction, with its renaissance heritage known the world over.

Volterra

Volterra is the closest town, within easy reach. Volterra is an Estruscan city with a beautiful centre contained within its walls, with a mixture of local shops and restaurants.

Mazzolla is a charming hilltop village in the midst of the beautiful Tuscan landscape between fields and woods.

San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill town mainly famous for its medieval architecture, especially its towers, which may be seen from several kilometres outside the town.

“Fantastic apartment and location, superb view!”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2014

We really enjoyed our stay. We hadn't been to Tuscany before and we were not disappointed with the location. Volterra is a lovely medieval town which we enjoyed wandering aound. It had a good supermarket cafés etc. You do need a car here as the apartment is away from the town but in a stunning location. The views from the patio/pool were superb! The apartment was spacious clean and well equipped, particularly if you want to do your own cooking, helped by the selection of herbs in the garden. Overall a really relaxing holiday with some sightseeing and plenty of ice cream!

“Beautiful apartment in stunning location”

You will have to go a long way to beat this accommodation and location in this price range. We visit Italy each year and have stayed previously in Tuscany but this region is lovely, the apartment is easily reached from airport (Pisa) in less than an hour. The local roads are very good by Italian standards and quiet compared to other areas. There are plenty of lovely hilltop towns within 30/40 min drive to visit. Sienna is only 45 mins away and Volterra 10 mins away is one of the nicest places in Tuscany. It has two good supermarkets with excellent deli counters which makes self catering easy, but there are lots of good restaurants in town which are better value then accepted (50 euro for fours meals and drinks). The apartment is not your average holiday let by any standards and is clearly a much loved holiday home of the owners ( who i found to be extremely helpful and efficient to deal with ). In my opinion the rooms are bigger than they look on the photos and it was plenty big enough for four. The quality of the fixtures and fittings are high and the attention to detail second to none, from the hair straighteners to the lilos and electric pump for the kids in the pool this place is packed with extras. I can not stress enough just how fabulous the views are and change throughout the day as the sun moves. The white road to the accommodation is well worth the seclusion and view. We had an estate car whilst staying there and had no problems accessing via the road.

“Beautiful, peaceful and relaxing.”

The owners are very friendly, helpful people, and the property has everything that I wanted, including spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. It's a very short distance from the lovely mediaeval town of Volterra - good to wander around, or sit and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine. We also took the train from Poggibonsi into Florence, and other Tuscan towns are within easily reachable distances. Best of all is relaxing in the pool after a long day, enjoying the views across to Mazzolla. The only problem we had was negociating the white road to the villa in our car - we managed, but the advice now on the website is to make sure you have a car with good clearance, and that is important.
