QUINTA DE s. CAETANO Manor House, ordered to build in the 17th century, is part of the history of the city of Viseu, having been the residence of illustrious families of the city, including the viscountess de s. Caetano, possessor of large dowries of volunteerism, having donated, for his death in the late nineteenth century, the fifth to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Viseu. This institution, in the first decade of 1900 he sold the farm to John Adam Trindade, Africanist moneyed, that on the night of July 17, 1925 was assassinated, when late at night he walked into his house. This case became known as "the crime of the witches Pool", for his body have been released on "Puddle of Witches", which bordered with the Quinta de s. Caetano. Who was the lead author of the crime never came to know, even in the long process that ran in the courts. Such was the interest in this process who came to serve the theme of several books, including the work "Eugenie and Silvina" Agustina Bessa Luís, published in 1990 and more recently (2012) "the Crime of the witches Pool" of Paul Bruno Alves. Several studies have been published, on the published literature, being the latest "Women of Agustiniana Fiction: the construction of the female archetype in Eugenie and Silvina", research carried out by Dr. Margaret Seara Simões under its last year in high school English (St. Julian's School-Carcavelos).

However the Quinta de s. Caetano was put up for sale by the judiciary, by public auction, having been bought by bidding, in 1936, by Bernardo Vieira de Matos, father of Júlio Vieira de Matos, current owner, who inherited this property in 1947.

Who arrives soon sees a double stone staircase, flanked by two majestic Palm trees, which makes possible the connection to the first floor, main entrance of the Manor.

The solar da Quinta de s. Caetano is a Manor House, a 17th-century building, which has undergone some changes and expansions over the years. It is a solar, of the best-known in the region of Viseu, either by its elegant structure, to have been the residence of important figures and viseenses by the events, something tragic, that there occurred.

In 1994 the conversion works were performed aiming to install a unit of "tourism".

Abroad, to complete the picture of a House shrouded in history and mystery, an attached Chapel devoted to the "Virgen de los Cielos", has an inscription dated 1630. In the gardens surrounding discovers an "Atlantic Cedar", Centennial, diverse tree Grove, fountain, pond, greenhouse and a pool.

The Quinta de s. Caetano is located in the town of Viseu, about 1.5 km from the historic centre of this city. Viseu is a city located in the central part of Portugal, about 290 km from Lisbon, 140 kms from the port, 90 km from Aveiro and 120 kms from border with Spain in Vilar Formoso.
