Lighting Giants – Pula's new attraction

"Lighting Giants", Pula's new attraction, is a unique project in the world of lighting cranes of an operating shipyard. Dean Skira, the world-famous lighting designer, with the help of sponsors and workers of Uljanik Shipyard, has lit up the shipyard's iconic cranes, a characteristic symbol of Pula. "Lighting Giants" have a sophisticated remote control system of lighting and scenography, and can be illuminated with 16 thousand different color combinations.

You can enjoy this spectacular show and lighting display every evening. "Lighting Giants" will light up in different colors every evening on the hour (at 9 pm, 10 pm, 11 pm and Midnight). This magnificent light spectacle will last about 15 minutes each time. There will be a different lighting scheme, specially programmed for special occasions, holidays and events.

The city is best known for its many surviving ancient Roman buildings, the most famous of which is its 1st-century amphitheatre, which is among the six largest surviving Roman arenas in the world and locally known as the Arena. This is one of the best preserved amphitheatres from antiquity and is still in use today during summer film festivals. During the World War II Italian fascist administration, there were attempts to disassemble the arena and move it to mainland Italy, which were quickly abandoned due to the costs involved.

Pula is situated at the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula and is the area's largest city. Located beneath seven hills and with views of the Adriatic, Pula's unspoiled natural surroundings are magical. Known for its mild climate and tame, beautiful sea, Pula also has a long tradition of winemaking, fishing and shipbuilding. It is also home to many ancient Roman buildings, including the well-preserved, magnificent amphitheater.

Vinkuran

Pula is one of Europes favorite summertime destinations.

The wealth of Roman architecture makes otherwise workaday Pula (ancient Polensium) a standout among Croatia's larger cities. The star of the show is the remarkably well-preserved Roman amphitheatre, smack in the heart of the city, which dominates the streetscape and doubles as a venue for summer concerts and festivals.

Historical attractions aside, Pula is a busy commercial city on the sea that has managed to retain a friendly small-town appeal. Just a short bus ride away, a series of beaches awaits at the resorts that occupy the Verudela Peninsula to the south. Although marred with residential and holiday developments, the coast is dotted with fragrant pine groves, seaside cafes and a clutch of fantastic restaurants. Further south along the indented shoreline, the Premantura Peninsula hides a spectacular nature park, the protected cape of Kamenjak.

This city has a mild Mediterranean like climate with calm ocean breezes that ripple just the tips of the ocean waves and heavenly sunsets that last a lifetime. The beaches here are very popular places during the summertime, so you better get here early if you want to get a good spot.

This city is known for its wine making, fishing, ship building and now their tourism and charm. But Pula is also known for its wonderful ancient Roman ruins and famous “Amphitheatre” which is the sixth largest surviving Roman arenas in the world, the “Temple of Rome and Augustus,” and the 1st century “Triumphal Arch of the Sergii.” Make your vacation plans now and make Pula apart of your life's history today.
