Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Languedoc-Roussillon is perfectly positioned between the Mediterranean to the east where the beautiful sandy beaches provide long days by the sea, and the Pyrenees to the west, which offer a wealth of walking and cycling opportunities, not to mention skiing in the winter!

This region is a delight; the Conflent valley provides lush green scenery, with Mount Canigou dominating the skyline and the Pyrenees visible in the distance. You can be swimming in the sea in the morning, and hiking in the mountains in the afternoon. There are even thermal hot springs, so if you would like to combine the two activities we can suggest a hike AND a swim in the mountains! It really does offer you everything!

For swimming there is the nearby lake at Vinca and open air pools in both Ille sur Têt and Prades.

Weather: We benefit from being in the sunniest region of France (with more than 300 days of sunshine on average each year) and enjoy warm, sunny weather from March all the way through to October. November and December are cooler but still with sunshine. January, February and March are great skiing months.

Vinca

Situated in a prominent position in an extremely well maintained "Village Fleurie" this beautiful stone gate house offers outstanding views of the olive groves & orchards of the Tet Valley.

Joch is a medieval hill village through which mountain streams run alongside it's flower filled, cobbled streets.

Lovely sandy beaches and old fishing ports such as Collioure, on the Mediterranean sea, are within easy reach (approx. 45 mins) .

here are numerous Abbeys, Monasteries and Cathar Castles to explore aswell as the UNESCO World Heritage site of Villefranche de Conflent just 20 mins away.

For art lovers a visit to the Museum of Modern Art in Ceret that boast works by Matisse, Picasso and Chagall among others is a must..

Prades (13km) hosts the international Pablo Casals Music Festival annually the town and the surrounding villages.

Prades also holds weekly markets, a large one on Tuesdays and a smaller farmers produce market on Saturdays.

Vinca (3 km) has a swimming lake with beach (there are lifeguards in attendance in July and August). There are picnic areas, a small snack bar/restaurant and a childrens play area too. You will also find all local amenities - bars, restaurants, boulangeries and various shops.

A Championship golf course is available at St.Cyprien and there are fabulous walks all around the area. Step out of the front door and you are in the countryside.

Finally, don't forget to leave time for some wine tasting at one of the numerous vineyards.
