“Fabulous!!!!”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2013

We have just returned from a great week at Le Grand Maine. this is the second time we have stayed and our expectations were more than realised. It is a beautiful peaceful spot which is well placed for visiting Bergerac, St Emilion or further afield. Nicola and Adrian are fantastic "owners" - friendly and helpful but certainly not "in your face". Solo the dog is a complete star ! It is also great value for money - in fact we like it so much we have already booked for next year !!!

“A true home from home family experience.”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2012

I spent alot of time booking this holiday due to the fact I was booking for my partner, myself our 3 children and my Mum, and wanted to find a suitable property that suited us all. I came across this property and saw the spaciousness in the three bedrooms and a great sized lounge with adequate seating for all. I sent a few emails to Nicola who answered all my questions in quick fashion and before to long I had it all booked and the deposit paid. I did at this point have slight reservations in that the owners lived downstairs - this was mentioned on the website so was not a shock, it is just something we had not done before. However during the holiday this turned out never to be an issue, but was in fact a great asset as they made excellent suggestions of locations to visit and restaraunts to eat at. We arrived late in the evening after a long hot drive and were warmly welcomed and shown were everything was and how it all worked, and then were left alone to unpack and sample a bottle of wine that Adrian and Nicola had provided for us. Next day we were up with the larks and out exploring, we walked into the village - a 5 minute walk and visited the boulangere coming back with provisions for the whole family, which were devoured on the balcony enjoying the view of all the fruit trees whilst planning our days. The accomodation is in such a beautiful quiet area that we spent many hours just appreciatting the tranquility of the place, and we were only 10 minutes away from thriving towns so it ticked both boxes for us. The swimming pool was an excellent place to cool down on the hot days - some were extremley high 30's or even low 40's and this was a perfect antidote to a hot day sight seeing. The accomodation is great as a holiday home to lounge around all day and also as a base for exploring the local area. My Mum is not as active as us so spent a few days enjoying the peace and quiet whilst we wizzed about canoeing, cycling, visiting caves and chateaus, and then we all spent lovely enjoyable evenings together. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, whatever you are looking for in a holiday home this place will fulfill those needs. By the end of our 2 weeks we had made new friends in Adrian, Nicola and their daughter Georgia, and was such a shame to be leaving. We will remember this as such a lovely family holiday made possible by the Hazell family and their truely lovely home. Thanks.

“second time even better than the first”

“A perfect relaxing family holiday!”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2012

This was the first family holiday that we can actually say was relaxing! We have a 5 year old son who is football mad so the land around the pool area was perfect for him, and the pool was heated to lovely 28/30 degrees each day - ideal for our 18 month old daughter! The living space was ideal and the location of the property provided easy access to a large variety of towns / attractions / restaurants. We will be back!
