Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Our little village of Villemorin is located within vineyards and sunflower fields. The landscape by day or night will inspire you to paint, write, relax and enjoy a little photography. It is also the perfect place from which to explore the beautiful countryside on foot or by bicycle. The square in Villemorin boasts a pretty church recently renovated with stunning stained glass windows. Throughout the year are community events including Bastille Day Celebrations on 14 July and the popular Sardine Festival in September.

Villemorin is situated 3 miles/5km from the market town of Aulnay-de-Saintonge, where all amenities are available: supermarkets, bakeries, banks, pharmacies, post office, garages, bars and restaurants. The open air swimming pool with games area and café is open throughout July and August, with the tennis courts open all year. The town is on the Santiago de Compostela route for pilgrims and the Romanesque church of St-Pierre d'Aulnay boasts impressive columns and is listed as a UNESCO Heritage site.

To the east of Villemorin is the little town of Néré, only 4 miles/6km away with supermarket, bakeries, bank, pharmacy and a welcoming anglo-french bar and bistro – Bar St Pierre!

Villemorin

Only 20 minutes drive away is St Jean d'Angèly, perfect for discovering the local heritage and magnificent architecture of the area. Built on the banks of the Boutonne River, this large market town boasts a beautiful lake and leisure area for water sports and lakeside activities. Nearby is the impressive swimming centre – Atlantys – with water slides, diving pool, jacuzzis, gym, sauna and sun terraces. In and around the town are all amenities including major supermarkets and a good selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.

Villemorin is the perfect touring base for exploring Poitou Charente:

LA ROCHELLE: A must see! This seaside port is the third most visited destination in France after Paris and Aix en Provence. A vibrant port full of hustle and bustle where you can sit around one of the hundred harbour facing restaurants people watching lapping up some Moules Frites!!

COGNAC: Visit a world famous distillery. Try the local aperitif pineau. Lovely market and beautiful parks. You can also enjoy a boat trip on the Charente River in a traditional gabare.!
