“Lovely stay”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2017

A family of 2 adults and 4 teenagers,we had a relaxing week in Jane's apt. Loved the view of the bay from the veranda. Pool large and v clean. Didn't have a car so limited to the small and pricey supermarkets in town but made use of the train to visit surrounding area. Found the apt very warm at night; there are fans which helped and coming from Ireland we are maybe just not used to heat!! Communication with Jane was excellent and Jane (another lady) who met us on arrival was more than helpful. Really appreciated the efforts to get WiFi installed for our phone obsessed girls!

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are so pleased you and your family enjoyed your stay and we hope to welcome you back sometime in the future.

“One of the best apartments I've stayed in.”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2016

This lovely apartment may be part of a large complex but it has the advantage of being on the ground floor of the first block facing the bay, affording the visitor a wonderful view from its private patio garden. Travelling with an elderly parent who has limited mobility this was a bonus in many ways, although visitors with or without transport should note that there is a short slope from the parking area to the apartment's actual entrance. It's also worth noting that the apartment sits on the top road as you enter Villefranche from Nice and although this is a pleasant street with a fantastic bus service throughout the day, full enjoyment of the town and the best places to eat necessitate time spent downhill (very steep whichever of several routes you might take) in the harbour areas. That said, the local taxi service is excellent, so if you're travelling with anyone who can only walk a little bit and you don't have a car, you should have a great time nevertheless. I wouldn't recommend Villefranche for anyone with more complicated mobility needs such as use of a wheelchair - many pavements are single file and unless you stay down by the sea you'll encounter a lot of climbing. This is particularly true of the little rail station, a ten minute walk from the apartment - built into the cliffs, access is extremely challenging both up and down. A better option is the station at the next town along, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, which has normal street access. Hop on a bus outside the apartment and pick up trains from there or get the bus into Nice which has an excellent level street layout. So, to the apartment itself, one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of staying in. Spacious, comfortable and clean it offers everything you'll need for whatever kind of holiday you're having. It also boasts a large pool (busy in good weather, no communal sun beds) up a steep climb behind the flat. We loved the main living room with its doors onto the patio garden, with fabulous views and the sun all day in summer. The whole place is well furnished - uncluttered but very comfortable, including the excellent double beds. The apartment is very quiet at night so we all slept well! There were only three of us but four adults and two young children wouldn't feel crowded here - the galley kitchen is a bit of a squeeze if two of you are busy in there at the same time but the main room easily seats six at the dining table. When we stayed, the television was out of action but this didn't bother us and there are DVDs available should you wish. The most important thing when you book a holiday apartment is the contact, assistance and confidence you receive from the owner and/or their agent. I recommend French owner Jane, and English Jane who met us on arrival, most highly. Friendly and considerate at all times, including swiftly answering specific questions in advance and warmly welcoming us to the apartment after a tiring journey due to a long fight delay at Gatwick, both Janes are a pleasure to engage with. Thank you both for making our stay in Villefranche such an enjoyable experience all round. My 90 year old mother would like to live in the apartment if she could - and that's saying something!

Owner's reply: Thank you for the very positive and informative review.

“Room With a View”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2016

A lovely comfortable clean apartment with a fantastic private terrace/garden with views over the bay and Cap Ferrat. The meet and great couple were very friendly with helpful local tips. Although we prefer a larger resort there are buses outside the apartment taking into either Nice in one direction or Cap Ferrat in the other. Also a bus going all the way to Monaco and Menton. A trip to Cap Ferrat (about 15 mins on the bus is a must). Villefranche harbour and old town are around a 15 minute walk away - uphill on the way back but definitely not too strenuous. There is a local supermarket and local bars within a 5 minute walk. All in all a great apartment in a very pretty resort

Owner's reply: Thank you for such a positive review. We love our apartment and VilleFranche but it always so good when we hear our guests do too.

“Beautiful Apartment in a beautiful place!”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2013

We have just returned from a very relaxing fortnight in Villefranche. We have been renting holiday apartments in Europe for several years and can honestly say that this was the most well equipped and by far the cleanest we have stayed in. Jane (the owner) was very efficient and helpful with any questions we had prior to the holiday, the description of the apartment on this site is extremely accurate. Jane and Nigel who manage the apartment were brilliant, and responded amazingly quickly to any queries we had and it was great that they visited halfway through our holiday to change bedlinen and towels and clean the apartment (I think that was a first for us too). I have read the one negative review on this site and struggle to comprehend how anyone could have written that about this property. We hired a car and would definitely recommend it as the buses are really full in high season. The main beach in Villefranche is fine shingle, but if you dig deep you can build a sandcastle! The sea is so clear and the bay was great for children, we all loved the pool in the domain, it was kept very clean and was only ever moderately busy. Thank Jane, Jane and Nigel.

“A place to relax”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2013

This is a really good place to relax at after busy days in this busy area. Both Villefranche and the apartment is nice to return to. Parking in Villefranche could be a problem but here you can park inside the apartment area (even if there was not a reserved parking place for this apartment). The apartment was very clean and as described. The patio has a nice seaview but some other buildings partly block it. There is some noise from the road but the bedrooms are at the back side and are very quiet. The distance to Villefrance center is 10-15 minutes walk (uphill back) and to beach and train station it is more like 20 minutes. Bus to Nice is very easy but they stop going around 8 pm. The only really negative thing I would say is about the pool area. Clean but very boring.

“A great place to relax and unwind”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2013

A delightful apartment with great views over the bay, a short walk from the centre of Villefranche and with easy access by bus, just outside the apartment and train in the town, to many renown destinations such as Cannes, Nice, Cap Ferrat, Monaco and Menton. The apartment is spacious, well decorated and provided all the equipment required, we self catered several evenings. Besides a dinning area with seating for six, used during one particularly stormy day, the terrace furniture positively encouraged outside dinning. We had particular fun with the telescope observing small and large boats going about their business in the bay. Intending to rebook this apartment for a visit 2013 as still much to see in the area.

“excellent value”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2012

Every year we search for apartments that are suitable for our finances and for our elderly parents. This is a fantastic place. It has a swimming pool of very good standard, the road is a main road along the coast which is ideal to catch public transport. Yes, you can look at this two ways, fantastic for public transport but busy but it is NOT nosiy and does not affect your sleep. If you want a tranquil place go into a cottage in the mountain away from the coast line, what do you expect on the cote azur???? It is well worth the stay!!!! I will go ther again, fantastic place very good value for money,

“An apartment with beautiful views of the bay”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2012

Having read the damning review from the guest who stayed in Oct I felt I had to leave a review of our experience at the apartment. We found it clean, comfortable and not at all noisy. Yes there is a busy main road outside the complex but the apartment is set far enough back from the road that you really do not notice the road noise. The kitchen is small but quite adequate for a holiday stay and there is a dining table and a patio table so it is not necessary to eat in the kitchen. We stayed at the apartment with my 2 daughters and their 2 friends and there was plenty of room for us to all sit together. Nice big bathroom with good storage...essential with 4 girls and lots of make-up! It didn't say there was wifi so we didn't expect it. Buses stop right outside the complex so the girls found it very easy to travel about...we had travelled down by car but obviously there wasn't room in the car for 6 of us...they had flown down. They also used the train..there is a station in the nearby village/town. It is quite a large village so I wasn't sure whether to call it a village or a town. The apartment has such beautiful views of the bay, often with quite spectacular yachts or ships. It is lovely to sit on the patio and just take in the view. I couldn't stop taking pictures of it! The girls loved the pool which is communal but was not busy at all when we went. The apartment has the best of both worlds really, it is quiet on the complex but you only have to walk down into the village for a bit of life....there are shops and some very nice restaurants there. I would warn you that it is very hilly so for people with difficulties walking you would need to take a car down to park at the bottom of the hill and parking can be difficulty at times there. Lots to see and do in the area. Nice and Monaco are both accessible by train or bus..we drove in but it is extremely busy on the roads. All in all I can highly recommend this apartment, it is situated on the best part of the complex; right at the front with no other buildings obstructing the beautiful views, accessible by bus or train so a car isn't necessary and you can choose if you want peace and quiet or a livelier time in the village nearby. When I say lively I don't mean night club lively...if you want night clubs you need to travel to Nice.
