“Great place for Cyclists”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2015

A group of friends and I visited the Alps for a cycling trip in June 2015 and were lucky enough to find Chalet L'Aurelie as a place to stay. The accommodation really was fantastic. It was a good size for the 5 of us, the beds were very comfortable which was great after a hard days riding, the whole chalet including the kitchen was really well equiped and there was space for our bikes. The location was great with beautiful views from the chalet (although if you don't have a car/van be prepared for a decent climb on the way back up from your ride). But finally, the main thing was that the owners, Anthony and Sheilah could not have been more helpful during our stay. I would happily recommend this for any cyclists looking for a great place to stay while enjoying the Col's around the region.

“As good as self-catering chalet skiing holidays get!”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2013

The chalet is situated in a delightful location - in the village, conveniently located for ski rental, shopping, and especially the lift into the huge Deux Alpes ski domain, and the views from the chalet look straight out over a beautiful Alpine valley. The chalet itself is beautifully appointed with all mod cons, modern kitchen facilities and lots of hot water. There is under-floor heating as well as a cosy real wood fireplace, comfortable spacious bedrooms, good wi-fi. Really, this is as good as you could want on every level. The owners live nearby and are very nice people who gave excellent advice about the locality and were ready to remedy any problems, no matter how small (and there weren't any big problems).

“This was the best ski trip I've been on!”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2012

Two girlfriends and I flew into Grenoble and collected our rental car. First stop was the nearby supermarket, this was suggested by the owners of our chalet and was a very good idea, on our visit the previous year we'd not done this and it made a big difference. We arrived slightly later than expected, (having texted to say we'd been delayed) The Coopers were there to meet us and had a fire going for us in the sitting room, (very welcome indeed). The chalet was immaculate. Very warm and cozy. They were very helpful with advice for lift passes, ski lessons / guides, etc. We had a problem with our car to first morning (top tip, don't drive a diesel rental car into the mountains in February as it freezes!) Anthony was very helpful, being not only fluent in French but also well integrated in the village community. I loved this trip and will definitely return. Everything about it worked. The skiing was great, something for everyone. And access to the slopes is within walking distance of the chalet. Hopefully I'll get back there this year!

“The most magical Christmas”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2012

After thirteen years of entertaining extended family and friends at Christmas, we wanted to get away and spend quality time together as a family unit. We'd had very little experience of the Alps and absolutely no experience of skiing. We found Chalet L'Aurelie and the alpine village of Villard Reculas to be everything we'd hoped for and more. The chalet itself was immaculate, well equipped and homely; in short everything you'd want from a chalet in The Alps. Fantastic panoramic views of snow topped mountains, a log fire, underfloor heating and a wet-room shower were my personal highlights but it's fair to say that the finishing throughout the property was excellent. The village in which the chalet sits was the perfect setting for our family Christmas. Despite the easy access to a plethora of ski slopes, it seems to have escaped becoming overly commercial and touristy. We took a weeks worth of skiing lessons at the ESF school located at the base of the Villard Reculas pistes. Our instructor, Alex, was patient, professional and great fun. We'd wholeheartedly recommend Alex to anyone visiting Chalet L'Aurelie who'd like to improve their skiing proficiency. I've read lots of online reviews on many subjects over the years but rarely felt compelled to write one myself. In doing so I feel obliged to balance the review with some negative points but I genuinely can't think of any. So I'll simply say that our stay at Chalet L'Aurelie was the most magical holiday we've ever had and we've taken away nothing but fantastic memories of our time there.
