Location description from owner

The Algarve region

Algarve

Welcome to the Algarve

Algarve. Wherever you look, the colours of the mountains and sea are always with you, creating the impression of a water-colour dotted with highlights of gold, green and blue.

The region is an extensive and pleasant one, with a Mediterranean climate, marked by the smell of the sea at low tide and the scent of wild flowers.
A stroll through the tangled web of narrow streets, alleys and steps to be found away from the coast is the best way of getting to know this part of the region. But you can also easily lose yourself in the vastness of the coastal strip.

Here the backdrop is composed of some of Europe's most beautiful beaches, from where you can admire the rocky coastline and the playful shadows they cast on the sand.
After the enchantment of the landscape, you can discover the aromas and flavours of the traditional Algarve cuisine.

The menu may consist of fish and shellfish, with such dishes as caldeirada de peixe (fish-stew) or cataplana de amêijoas (clams steamed in a copper pan), or you can enjoy the traditional mountain food of stewed chickpeas and cabbage. The range of choices will also include the famous regional delicacies, such as figs, almonds, carobs and the brandy made from the locally grown medronho (arbutus-berry), distilled up in the hills in old copper stills.

As you travel across the Algarve, amidst its hills and plains filled with places of great ecological interest, rich in biodiversity and ecosystems, you will feel as though you are passing through an area full of different traditions, unchanged for many centuries.

The handicraft is skilfully manufactured by the local craftsmen, who make use of longstanding, ancestral techniques and produce an excellent range of pottery, woven baskets, copper and brass articles, or other pieces made of linen and jute.
Only a step away from the tranquil peace of the inland region is the excitement of the Algarve nightlife. Bars, discos, marinas and casinos guarantee visitors the very best kind of merrymaking.

The region's built heritage is something you cannot afford to miss. The architecture of the whitewashed houses, with their brightly-coloured mouldings and remarkably beautiful chimneys, the church belfries and the museums, all reveal particular memories of the ancestors of the Algarve people and help to make this such a special destination.

Also to be recommended is the range of outdoor sports that are available, whether you're playing golf on lush green courses or enjoying some physical exercise at some of the region's excellent facilities, whether you're on the coast or perhaps up in the hills, where, after the rigours of winter and even before the first signs of spring, the land is covered in a pinkish white blanket, produced by the blossom of the almond-trees scattered across the horizon.

This is the true portrait of an Algarve that you'll find waiting for you, all year round.

GOLF

Enjoy the renowned golf courses that Vilamoura has available. They are six in total, all having their own individual features and degrees of difficulty.
Totalling 117 holes, including "The Old Course" emblematic of Vilamoura, and the more recent "Victoria" designed by living legend, Arnold Palmer, the resort contributes towards Algarve's success in being classified as Best Golf Destination by IAGTO - the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.

Did you know that:
Since 2007, the Oceãnico Victoria course in Vilamoura has hosted the Portugal Masters? The Masters, which is considered to be one of the main European golf tournaments, will again be staged here in 2012. This will be its sixth consecutive year at the Victoria course and will have a prize fund of €2.2 million.

Hosting the Portugal Masters repeatedly is recognition of the quality of golf courses and tourist amenities in Vilamoura. Once again, the elite pro golfers will show off their skills here. The event also attracts hundreds of specialised press representatives including worldwide newspapers, magazines, radio and, of course, television.
Tens of thousands of spectators will also attend the event.
The Portugal Masters has been a tremendous success over the past five years, and the inclusion of the tournament in the PGA European Tour, which is guaranteed for this year, will help to boost Portugal's position as one of the world's best golf destinations even further.

BEACHES

Thanks to Vilamoura's favourable sunny climate, taking a dip in the blue Atlantic waters is truly inviting.
The beaches enjoy a cosmopolitan, happy and vibrant atmosphere, and are trustworthy, having been certified by the quality and environmental authorities.
The three-kilometre long golden sands can only be equalled by the crystal clear waters into which you can DIVE throughout many months of the year.
Many generations meet at the Vilamoura beaches. In the morning, the atmosphere is calm and serene, when the beaches afford some leisurely, sociable time for families to enjoy in a relaxing, safe way. In the afternoon, liveliness and fun get into gear. This is when the younger generations create an intense, colourful buzz of allure and charm.
Later, the trendy, comfortable beach facilities installed there are ideal for unique, lively sunset parties.
At Praia da Rocha Baixinha, or Praia da Falésia, you can relax on the extensive sands, dive into the clear, warm sea or take part in water sports, and share unforgettable moments with the family or friends, with permanent lifeguard protection and accessibility to everyone.

“Excellent for family holiday”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2016

we have just returned from staying at this beautiful villa, we travelled with family and a 5 month old baby the villa is very well equipped for a baby. You need a car but this is clearly stated in the description but its only a 5 minute drive to supermarkets and restaurants. The kitchen is very well equipped and beautifully clean , The pool and patio area is fantastic as was the outside table tennis great fun for all the family and spotlessly clean. The owners of the villa are fantastic nothing was too much trouble and their communication throughout the booking experience and our stay was brilliant. We have all come home from a fabulous holiday planning when we can go back

Owner's reply: Dear guests, Thank you very much for your review. It was a pleasure having you stay in Casa do Cedro. Would love to welcome you back . Best Regards Christopher Rodell
