Located within the SW Alentejano/Costa Vicentina Nature Reserve, in area protected countryside, the Quinta do Monte is a 22 hectare estate perched atop an important Portuguese river, the Mira. The House, surrounded by a forest of cork oaks and pine trees, was completed in 1993.
In building of the house, the traditional architecture of the region was taken into account, while making the most of its setting with wide windows overlooking the magnificent view of the river. The house can quite comfortably accommodate 14 people and is part of other buildings, either farm outbuildings or part of the infrastructure of the 20m x 4m swimming pool, built on a terrace looking down onto the river. There are even a small lake and a pontoon on the river where you can take a dip and fish.
The woods surrounding the house consist mostly of cork-oaks, pine and olive trees and are criss-crossed by a number of paths, enabling guests to enjoy a peaceful stroll in a landscape of rare natural beauty.

The Alentejo region
The climate of the region where Quinta do Monte is located is mild, with wonderful winters with lots of sunny days, and not to hot in the summer, enabling an almost year round enjoyment of the magnificent beaches of the Atlantic.
Nearby there are the beautiful towns of Sines, where Vasco da Gama, the first man to reach India by sea, was born and Santiago do Cacem, where one can visit the well preserved ruins of Mirobriga, an ancient Roman village. Of interest is also Odemira, upper on the river Mira, a typical Portuguese Southern Plains’ town.
Vila Nova de Milfontes
Vila Nova de Milfontes is a small town, in the mouth of the river Mira, of circa 4000 inhabitants, with lots of good restaurants where one can enjoy the typical Portuguese food, especially seafood.
A former fishermen town, its main attraction is its castle facing the sea. Apart from the various water sports (water skiing, scuba diving, etc.) that one can enjoy all year round, there is also a golf course within 45 mins drive. Surrounded by charming hills and wonderful beaches, one can enjoy the best of country and sea.
