“Perfect set up for families”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2015

We spent the last week of July at Le Fresne and it was a completely relaxing place to be with our young children. Everyone can do what they are keen on (hubby watching the golf on UK TV, me reading on the verandah with the children in full view as they frolicked in the pool and garden). Hubby played golf for real at the Golf de Vire La Dathée course (about 45 mins away) which is run by a guy from Southampton and the course is really interesting and picturesque - a very tight course which demands good iron work, I'm told. We did some local sightseeing and had all our meals outside on the covered verandah, rain or shine, and made great use of the BBQ! Karen and Gil are the perfect hosts - absolutely there if you have any questions and not at all when you want to get on with some private relaxation. The house has been beautifully restored and is possibly the cleanest place I've ever seen! The house is very well catered for UK guests with Freeview available and just about all the plugs are UK standard so no need for adaptor plugs. Top marks to Le Fresne from the Savidge family. Thanks, Karen and Gil!

“Perfect for families”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2015

Le Fresne was the perfect holiday house for families with young children. It had everything we needed to keep our tribe of 5 children under the age of 6 happy (plenty of space, toys, outdoor play, pool, high chairs, TV, dvd) so that the grown ups could relax in a perfectly tranquil setting in Normandy. The house has been immaculately restored and fitted out by the owners who keep the property in perfect order and are always happy to assist with ideas for days out, local knowledge of markets, restaurants etc. We couldn't ask for a more enjoyable holiday.

“Wonderful Le Fresne”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2014

We have just very recently returned from a months holiday at Le Fresne. Over that period of time, we have had various members of the family visit us, ranging in age from 4 to 76. Everyone of them enjoyed their time at the cottage. The children enjoyed the wonderful pool, the swings, slide, hammocks, chickens and the orchard. Here they were able to discover lots of different fruit trees and nut trees. One of the children arrived with arm bands, unable to swim, but left having swam a length of the pool and done away with the arm bands!! She was so proud of herself. Meanwhile the adults were able to to relax and enjoy the comforts of the cottage, both inside and out. The owners, Karen and Gil, have done a fantastic job in the cottage, allowing it to be a most comfortable and welcoming home - a bit like home from home. All the facilities one would require were at hand. Karen and Gil have thought of everything.. While there, we were able to explore the local area and further afield quite easily. Karen and Gil were the ideal hosts - unobtrusive but there if you needed them. Very nice people. We would recommend Le Fresne without hesitation. The Moore family

“Very special holiday , in a delightful Gite.”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2014

We found Le Fresne on the internet , the large accommodation swimming pool and location fitted our criteria perfectly. Karen from the outset was very professional, supplying us with maps and other vital information. The Gite was spotless with everything you need ,potty, highchair, pegs and coat hangers..we loved being able to enjoy the large gardens..if you needed anything else Karen was on hand, always helpful. We had a lovely relaxing time, cannot recommend highly enough.

“Everyone loved it!”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2013

Six adults and five children from 3 to 16. On arrival we were met by the owners , who live nearby. They showed us around Le Fresne and explained everything. The property is spacious with three bathrooms, one of which is downstairs near to the pool ( very useful). The living areas are large and the kitchen is well equipped ,full sized oven ,larder fridge and a tall fridge freezer ( handy for drinks ) , dishwasher and washing machine. There is a large table in the kitchen /diner and another outside, undercover. All the bedrooms are large with ample cupboard space. Furnishings, bedding, towels etc. are good quality and the curtains keep out the light. The inside and outside of the property is maintained to a high standard. The pool is cleaned regularly and the gardens are large and well maintained. The pool is heated by solar water panels and was always warm enough. There is a full size pool table in an adjoining barn. There are plenty of bats and balls for the kids. The owners are friendly and available to give you advice if you want it . There is a good supermarket less than 10mins drive away. Plenty of places to eat out within 10mins drive. The location is peaceful yet with good access to the road network. Everyone loved it !

“Great for a large family holiday!”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2013

We have stayed in a few and this one was definitely the best! A very accessible, well located and extremely well maintained spacious gite. There were 12 of us and still there were spare beds! The indoor and outdoor space was more than adequate with two large garden areas and a separate pool room. The owners are extremely accommodating and nothing seems too much trouble. Their attention to detail such as stair gates emphasises this. Having a heated pool provided that extra 'splash' of fun even on a dull day. Whether eating inside or out the tables are huge and able to accommodate everyone easily so we have memorable moments of coming together around the obligatory French bread, cheese, bier blonde and wine. Great gite, great owners and a great time was had by all.

“Highly recommended - a true taste of French living”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2013

Le Fresne is a lovely spacious house in a peaceful location. It is within very easy reach of the small town of Ducey and slightly further to Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët. It was able to accommodate a large extended family with teenagers/young adults (14 in total). The house was very comfortable, very clean and up to date with all the usual domestic appliances, though it retained many of the original features and has been sympathetically restored by the owners Gil and Karen. They live nearby and were friendly and very helpful, though not intrusive. The pool was kept in tip top condition and was an absolute selling point for us; the gardens were very well maintained with an abundance of beautiful flowers and a large lawned area where the men enjoyed competitive afternoon football and cricket matches whilst the ladies relaxed by the pool!! I would definitely recommend this property and very much hope to return.

“Perfect house for several families”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2013

We spent a lovely week with large family group of all ages. The accommodation and setting was just as described. There was plenty of space inside and out and plenty to do for the kids with the pool and games room 20 min drive to lovely beaches with loads of other places of interest to visit. Very welcoming owners on site helpful and discreet It was a pleasure dealing with Karen from the very first enquiry, nothing was too much trouble. Very highly recommended! The only negative was having to leave it all behind and come home to reality.

“A great house in a beautiful setting”
