Description from owner

Hidden down a secluded private

track (last 100 yards rough), 1¼ miles from Veryan and in the most tranquil, rural setting with long views seaward, a fine, stone-built detached cottage, a mile walk across fields from the

magnificent Carne/Pendower sandy

beaches. Beautiful, well stocked cottage garden with paths and steps up to

rough mown woodland area and, to one side, a terrace (table/chairs) for

sundowners.

Inside, homely and charming, tiled

floors, good furniture, some low lintels (5'10”). From the front door, small

hall into cosy living room (open fire,

TV/DVD) for hunkering down after a long coastal walk. Dining room (open fire, window seat) and step up to well-equipped

kitchen (dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer,

oil-fired Aga, electric cooker).

Just outside the back door, a shower-room (suite), great for washing

sandy/salty bodies. Upstairs, three

bedrooms (all with sea views) – a double (5' bed, washbasin), and a small twin

(truckle) with step up through to

The Roseland Peninsula region

Cornwall's 'Med': here is Cornwall at its warmest, most sheltered; of creeks and tidal waters penetrating deep inland, deep in woods, silent except for birdsong; of wonderful gardens growing things that live nowhere else outdoors in England (marvellous in rhododendron, camellia, magnolia time, from March to end of May especially); of sailing boats everywhere decorating the sea; of harbour villages where the light is Mediterranean - dazzling in the sunshine. And really very little that is ugly has been allowed to be built.

Here is Truro, Cornwall's (small) capital, with its 20th century cathedral; Falmouth, resort town and cargo/cruise ship/yacht port, superbly sited; and the glorious Helford River. Trewithen, Trelissick, Glendurgan, Trebah, Heligan (Lost Gardens of) and Caerhays are among the finest gardens. In the very middle of Cornwall, Lanhydrock house is very special, so is its garden. Not the greatest area for beaches, but good sandy ones near Veryan and Portscatho, in St Mawes, and around Falmouth and the Helford River's mouth. Not to be missed is St Just-in-Roseland's churchyard; nor - within easy reach - is The Eden Project (see South Cornwall).

Veryan

Veryan: little wooded-valley village (good pub) a mile from the sea in one of the loveliest parts of Cornwall. Nat. Trust cliffs, coves, sandy beaches, tiny fishing villages; close inland, the wooded Fal estuary creeks. St Mawes and Mevagissey (large village), 7 miles. St Just in Roseland, 5. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project and Truro (Cornwall's capital), 10.
