This apartment is on a lower part of the property, and the entrance can be reached from the garden to the right, following a short path leading to a private terrace. At the end of a small courtyard, one step up is the entrance to the apartment. Since the terrace is built upon a protruding part of the hill, it is protected by a wooden fence. The entrance leads to a large room with a living area and a dining area. Also here we find a comfortable bed couch and a characteristic Tuscan fireplace. The dining area contains a gas-stove, a fridge and an oven. In front of the kitchen, a few steps higher, a door leads to a small courtyard in shape of a horseshoe. To the left of the kitchen, up one step, is a short hallway with door to a single bedroom, and, up one step, at the end of the hallway is a bathroom with washbasin, WC, and shower niche. To the left of the fireplace, up four steps is a landing from which doors lead to a double bedroom, a single bedroom, and a bathroom and shower. The double bedroom has a glass door to the courtyard. The apartment is very comfortable, welcoming and bright.

The Tuscany region
The rural enclave in northwest Tuscany known as the Garfagnana, has to be one of Italy's best-kept secrets. The Garfagnana is within reach of the Tuscan gems of Lucca, Pisa and Florence, but its appeal lies more in its isolation, its lack of tourism and its striking scenery. This area of outstanding natural beauty and matchless hospitality nestles between two distinct mountain ranges, the spectacular jagged ‘marble mountains’ of the Alpi Apuane and the rolling ‘spine of Italy’, the Apennines.
You can choose between two way of spending your holiday: to stay relaxed in the peace of the country or do a lot of activities as trekking, mountain bike, excursions in mountain, tours to caves or natural parks.
The local cuisine can be enjoyed at reasonable prices in the numerous restaurants of the area.
A visit to Lucca, the historical, walled main town of the province could be made in half a day.
Recommended full day trips include Pisa and Florence.

"Paradise! A wonderful, peaceful and relaxing holiday in a stunning location."
Our holiday in La Capanne 3 was perfect. The accomodation itself was basic but it was clean and we had everything we could possibly need. The beds were really comfortable and we had all the necessary utensils. Our terrace was fantastic, shady, with the most glorious views of the forests and mountains. The grounds and the swimming pool were amazing, The kids were hardly ever out of the pool and they loved exploring the surrounding area. David's hospitality was second-to-none, he couldn't do enough for us. Specifically, the free fresh bread or pastries which David left on our terrace table every other morning were most welcome, as were the free, succulent vegetables which he encouraged us to pick from the vegetable garden.. the surrounding towns and villages were beautiful and really authentically italian. The village of Sassi deserves a special mention because of the wonderful fiesta we attended and it's fantastic restaurant (no menu, fresh, home-cooked italian food - perfect!) We wouldn't hestitate to recommend La Capanne to anyone. We had one of our best holidays ever and we can't wait to return!

"The best place for a brain de-tox"
This is our fifth year staying at Le Capanne. Each time we go, as we drive up into the mountains and reach Le Capanne all the stress and strain of busy lives just fade away. The setting is just so breathtaking, the apartments so wonderful, the pool inviting...I could go on and on. The best thing is the welcome from David - the Saisi family own the apartments and what is so wonderful is that they are so accessible. David comes every day (you get pastries left out for you on your first morning) to water the garden and clean the pool and chat. But the rest of the day is left to enjoy the peace, the sun and the pool or walk in the wonderful national park, Having said that we just veg out:-) Lucca, Florence are accessible via train if you are so inclined. The highlight of our trip this year was the free light show from 1,000's of fireflies in the valley. Perfect.
