“Comfortable apartment in ideal location”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2015

This was the first time that we had rented an apartment in Venice and it was so much more enjoyable than staying in a hotel. The apartment is located in a historic building, the Palazzo Lezze, in one of the most attractive areas of Venice. It is close to shops and restaurants, is a short walk away from vaporetto stops, provides an excellent base for exploring the city, yet is quiet and cosy. The apartment is spacious and clean, the bed is very comfortable, the kitchen is really well equipped and there is reliable wifi. When we arrived during a very humid evening there was a very welcome bottle of chilled Prosecco waiting to cool us down. Filippo (the owner) is charming and friendly, speaks English fluently and lives upstairs. It was reassuring to know that we could have called on him for advice at any time. We will certainly recommend the apartment to our friends and intend to return for the next Biennale. This superb apartment is absolutely ideal for our needs.

“Charming ground floor apartment in Cannaregio”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2014

The apartment is on the ground floor of a 500 year old palazzo and the owners live on the upper floors. Filippo speaks excellent English and provided us with detailed transfer instructions from Marco Polo airport to the apartment. We had been advised that, although the flat was being cleaned, we could have a quick look round and drop off our luggage. We paid the agreed rental and cleaning charge in cash to Filippo and were given the keys immediately. He also personally gave us advice on local restaurants/bars/amenities. We had no cause to contact Filippo again during our stay, however, we had contact numbers etc if it had been necessary. We had the freedom to come and go as we pleased. The bedroom, living room and kitchen were spacious and although the bathroom was compact it was spotlessly clean. Cannareggio is a lovely district to use as a base as it has all the essentials within a five minute walk (shops/bars/restaurants), the people are friendly and you can wind down after a busy day sightseeing etc. It is possible to walk to all the sights or catch a vaporetto but half the fun is wandering through all the alleys and squares on the way. Take comfortable shoes. This was our first visit to Venice and we had a fabulous stay.

Owner's reply: Thanks, hope to see you soon again.

“Like Venice - very old, very beautiful but a bit of a rip off”

Reviewed 20 Mar 2013

First the plus points: The Palazzo Lezze dates back to 1611 and is situated in one of the nicest and least touristy areas of Venice. It is not far from the busy Strada Nova and the excellent Billa mini-market. The flat is comfortably furnished, with some pieces that reflect the age and style of the property. There is a washing machine, although it was not listed in the property details Now the problems, of which there are many: Foremost is the kitchen (which is not as shown in the photo). There is NO COOKER. There is an impressive five ring hob and enough saucepans to feed a coach party pasta and sauce, but NO OVEN OR GRILL. There is also no toaster and the electric kettle doesn't work; there is, however, an old style kettle for use on the hob. Fine if you are happy to boil and fry stuff, but if you want to reheat a pizza or even warm some croissants, forget it. The owner is happy to let you have the password to his wi-fi router, but as that is on the top floor of the substantially built palace, it was invisible to my mobile phone. The price on the web site is shown as €700, but the (presumably tax evading) owner wanted € 730 in cash, and would not accept any other form of payment. All in all a bit disappointing.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the criticismes, we will try to match them. As for the supplementary 30 euro, these are for cleaning and were agreed before booking

“A truly wonderful experience...”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2012

Thank you so much to this lovely Venetian family for sharing their special paradise with us. The apartment, the hospitality offered, and the location were all superb. We were travelling from New Zealand as a family with a 15 and a 12 year old, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. There will always be very fond memories of our time there because of the owners and their hospitality. Thank you!

Owner's reply: Thaks so much for your kind words: it has been a real pleasure to meet you and your nice family. I hope to meet you again soon Giorgio

“Best apt. for Location, Value, and Ease of Arrangement!”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2011

We stayed here for one week and absolutely loved it. Location was excellent as it was not far from the Ca D'Oro vaporetto stop or walking to any of the sites, although out of the tourist zone. You will hear true Venetian life...children on their way to school, the canal with all the activity of keeping the city going, and residents on their way back from the market which is close by. By the evening things have quieted down to the point where you can just hear the water lapping. The coolest thing was putting your key into the amazing doors with the lion head knockers on the ground floor of a palace! The apt. was more spacious than the pictures reflected, everything was spotlessly clean, and we were given a welcome snack and fruit. Large canal side windows in the bedroom and living room let in tons of light and air. These windows can open either by tipping just the top or swinging wide from the side. The kitchen is more than adequate for light cooking and we usually had breakfast and dinner there. The bathroom was top notch, though a bit cramped for space. Making arrangements with Giorgio could not have been easier and he and his wife live just upstairs if you need anything. I spent weeks searching for a Venice apt. that didn't want your first born child as collateral and was so relieved to find this one! Just an email and it was done! We met at the apt. (no fee) and payment is in cash when you arrive (no crazy bank transfers or security deposits) and everything was included in his very reasonable rate (no cleaning fee!) This was a more affordable option than even a B&B, plus the savings by doing some cooking yourself. In fact, we had a problem with the ATM and Giorgio was very understanding and patient while I worked it out! Just make sure to ask for the anti-mosquito plug-in as even in October, we had a mosquito issue...really can't do screens with this type of window. What a treat it was to stay like true Venetians and get to know the back streets and secret places.

Owner's reply: Hope to have you back again, it has been a real pleasure to meet you. Giorgio
