One of three 'Provence perched villages' (the others being Le Beaucet and La Roque-sur-Pernes), Venasque is a Medieval settlement clinging to a rocky peak which overlooks the valley below and is just over a mile away from Tour Saracene. Arguably one of the prettiest villages in Provence, Venasque still boasts steep lanes, quaint creamy stone houses and attractive ancient monuments. There is also a small selection of excellent restaurants serving local dishes, a perfect alternative to eating at home. Why not browse the market stalls at Pernes-les-Fontaines, a few miles away,  to sample some local produce and delicacies such as lavender honey and French goats cheeses. Mont Ventoux, one of Provence's most remarkable landmarks, offers challenging opportunities for hiking, cycling or horse riding and probably the best views over this splendid region of Southern France.
