The Andalucia region
Andalusia, where the sun shines more than 300 days a year, is probably the most diverse province of Spain. In the virtually unexplored south-west region of this province lays Vejer de la Frontera a stunning pueblo blanco, rich in authentic culture and natural beauty. The old town presents inspiring historical sites, picturesque patios and balconies amongst the cobbled alleyways, as well as numerous inviting bars and restaurants.
Around Vejer is a limitless variety of activities possible; explore the rolling countryside on foot, on horseback or by para sailing, enjoy the golden and deserted beaches of the Costa de la Luz, play golf on the first class courses, or go for fascinating whale watching to the street of Gibraltar. For cultural events and shopping trips visit the magnificent cities of Cádiz, Sevilla, Granada and Tarifa. There are several impressive shopping malls in the neighborhood, like Bahía Sur, Le Carrefour and Les Cortes Inglès are just a few. Other places to visit are Gibraltar, Malaga, Medina Sidonia, Barbate and a choice of other picturesque pueblos blancos.
Vejer de la Frontera
Andalusia is the southern most region of Spain. It contains the historic cities of Sevilla, Granada, and Cádiz and many examples of Moorish architecture.
The whitewashed villages of Andalucia are impressive historical monuments in themselves, and their people still live according to age-old traditions, inherited from their Iberian, Roman and Moorish forefathers.
Many of the villages near the coast have become fashionable resorts, while still conserving their ancient charm, whereas others, lost in the highlands of Andalusia, remain rough and ready olive-farming towns, with a special appeal for the adventurous travelers.
Most Andalusian towns began as fortresses, which stood along the ever-fluctuating frontier between the Christian and Moorish realms, as is apparent in the names of such towns as "Jerez de la Frontera", "Arcos de la Frontera", "Morón de la Frontera"... Over the centuries, many have developed into thriving agricultural centers producing olive oil, fruit and vegetables and goat's milk.
