The Goa region

Goa is known for its relaxed, laid -back atmosphere where u can shop at the fabulous markets, enjoy an alternative life-style making use of traditional healing and massages or enjoy the golf, deep sea fishing or water sports on offer. Or you can simply enjoy walking and swimming beside the 27 kilometers of beautiful golden sandy beaches, stopping off every so often at one of the beach restaurants for a taste of the extensive asian, chinese, goan and sea-food menu.

The magnificent scenic beauty and the architectural splendours of its temples, churches and old houses have made Goa a firm favourite with travellers around the world. But then, Goa is much more than just beaches and sea. It has a soul which goes deep into unique history, rich culture and some of the most beautiful natural scenery that India has to offer.

Much of the real Goa is in its interiors, both inside its buildings and in the jungles away from the coastal area.

Legends from Hindu mythology credit Lord Parshuram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu with the creation of Goa.

Over the centuries various dynasties have ruled Goa. Rashtrakutas, Kadambas, Silaharas, Chalukyas, Bahamani Muslims and most famously the Portuguese have been rulers of Goa.

Having been the meeting point of races, religions and cultures of East and West over the centuries, Goa has a multi-hued and distinctive lifestyle quite different from the rest of India. Hindu and Catholic communities make up almost the entire population giving it a cosmopolitan outlook which fits well with holiday maker.

Varca, Cavelossim, and Mabor are the most beautiful beaches south of Benaulim. These beaches are much cleaner and quieter than most of the famous beaches of Goa. There are numerous beach restaurants offering a variety of Goan dishes and seafood at reasonable prices.

If you fancy a change the many rivers are available to be explored using a rice boat or traditonal Goan fishing boats where you are fed a 3 course meal on king prawns and sea bass and all the beer u can drink for less than £8.

The cost of living in Goa is a fraction of a normal holiday in Europe and continental food is as widely available as Asian and Chinese due to european influences over the centuries. Fruits and vegetables are very cheap and available all year round as the temperature hovers between 28 -32 degrees Celsius.

These beaches are home to some of the most exclusive and luxurious beach resorts in Goa. Accommodation is also available for budget and economy class travelers though not on the beach itself.

Christian, Hindu and Muslim festivals are all celebrated in Goa so there is always a party to go to or a parade to see. Whether its a trip to the jungle, or the river back waters ,or a visit to the spice farms with elephant transport or up to Anjuna for the live muisic or vast craft markets Goa has it all and many people come back year after year as a result.

"Nicely situated but need some maintenance"

The property is well situated at 500 m of Varca beach (nice beach), and had a good restauarant on the other site of the road. Archie was really welcoming, friendly and we had a easy checking. The bungalow itself is ok, evrything you need is there, ACs, bedsheet are clean, towels etc...smalls items in the fridge are available which can be very useful when you arrive late, (thanks). But frankly the overall property need maintenance, the garden is terrible, the pool (missing tiles...not tidy around), most of the houses around look dirty, there is a damp smell sometimes is a pity,

"Comfortable stay in good, quiet location"

Anyone planning to visit Goa should bear in mind that although the location is one of the better off states in India the continent is still very much part of the developing world and unless you stay at one of the 5 star beach hotels (and pay the associated ultra-high prices) accommodation described as luxury may not compare with similarly described Western properties. We stayed in Tarika Villa B5 during our trip to Varca in February 2015 and although this was our first stay here we have previous experiences of Goa. This review is based on what we expected taking into account our previous knowledge of Goa. B5 is a two bedroom 2 shower room villa with lounge, kitchen and quiet patio area . It is not luxury in the true western world sense but it is a more than adequate, clean, property with plenty of modern conveniences such as large fridge freezer, microwave, gas cooking hob, water filter, air conditioning and fans, washing machine and satellite TV. Wi-Fi is available at an additional cost if booked in advance. It is situated in a complex of some 20-25 properties which surround a swimming pool and is safe and convenient.. The grounds are typical of what you would expect from a location which experiences daily temperatures in excess of 35 degrees every day although it is true that some gardening attention is required by the complex managers (out of the control of the villa owners, Archie & Jane). The complex is situated some 250-300 yards walk from Varca beach where there are a number of excellent beach shacks which somehow manage to produce top quality food with minimal facilities.. There is a really good small restaurant about 50 yards from the complex and a local convenience store an easy five minute stroll away. Archie and Jane, were always helpful and available by phone or e-mail at any time and resolved queries really quickly. Our housekeeper was also very efficient and friendly and we always felt welcomed throughout our stay. Goa is a ‘marmite’ holiday location in that you will either love it or hate it…………….we love it and found the villa to be absolutely fine for our needs……..and look forward to returning next year. If you accept Goa for what it is you will find the villa to be an ideal property in a great yet quiet location. However, if you are looking for western style four star accommodation this probably isn’t for you and the top end tourist hotels will meet your needs…………… a price.

Dear Dave & Becci - Thank you very much that you have taken the time to leave us a nice review. We are very happy to hear that you have appreciated the comfort of our home & that you enjoyed what Goa has to offer. It was a pleasure having you as Guests & want to thank you again for your repeat booking for the next season. Kind Regards - Archie, Jane & Amelia.....;-)

"Great location"

Stayed here with my husband and another couple. The bungalow was of a good standard and size and facilities were adequate for what we needed. Lovely to be able to come back and just chill ! The location was within walking distance to the most beautiful Varca beach. Beach shacks were very cheap to eat in and served the most wonderful fresh food, no one in our party ever suffered with Deli belly !!! Zumbria was our favourite ! Jane and Archie the owners of the bungalow were fantastic, it was like having your own personal holiday reps, they had a lot of local knowledge and helped us with suggestions for day trips..... Betty's boat trip excellent value £ 8.50 each for the whole day including food and tipple ! Would I stay here again ? You bet great holiday ....

Thank you very much that you have taken the time to leave us a nice review with kind words. We are very happy to hear that you have had a nice time in Goa & that you have enjoyed the comfort of our home. It has been a pleasure having you as guests & we hope to be able to welcome you again in Goa in the future. Kind regards & all the best for the future - Archie, Jane & Amelia..........;-)

"Ideal getaway"

We stayed here for 10 nights and had a very peaceful and relaxing break. It is a small complex just a short walk from the beach. A small shop is close by as well as a restaurant if you don't want to spend time cooking and the prices of the meals are embarrasingly cheap! The main village is a short taxi ride away where there is a larger shop with a greater variety of goods and taxis are readily available just outside the complex. Archie and Jane are very friendly and approachable and the internet was easily set up at a small extra cost which was well worth it. There were a few short power cuts and one longer power cut during the night but this all added to the sense of adventure! This is an ideal location for anyone wanting a quiet break with guaranteed sunshine but without the formalities of a pricey hotel.

Dear Shelagh - Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a positive review & we are very happy that you did enjoy Goa & have enjoyed the comfort of our home. It was a pleasure to have you as Guests & we hope to welcome you again in the future.

"Quiet & relaxing complex"

We have rented here for three years & always enjoyed our stay. The complex is small, friendly & very close to a beautiful beach. There are restaurants nearby as well as some hotels and local shops. The main village is a short taxi ride away & these are readily available. Would definitely recommend
