“An amazing apartment in the heart of Valletta”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2012

This was our first holiday in Malta. Malta is a beautiful country with short distances to tourist attractions. The apartment is incredibly nice and delicate with great root top tarrace where we watched the sunset over Sliema many evenings with a glass of wine. We can recommend the apartment and the city Valletta to everyone.

Response from the manager Thank you very much for your feedback it really does help and show that the Penthouse offers an excellent choice in terms of location and comfort Rgrds Paul.

“Lovely apartment in a great location”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2012

The Old Mint Penthouse is a lovely clean and well kitted out apartment. The photos are very accurate, and the apartment has a lovely entrance lobby into an old stone building right in the heart of Valletta. Lovely views from the terraces and roof. I stayed with my partner and another couple, and there was plenty of space for us all, but a few points if you are travelling as a group of four: 1) There is only one bathroom, and this did prove to be a problem when getting ready to go out for the day/night. 2) One bedroom is considerably nicer than the other, and is right next door to the bathroom - this could definitely cause problems between two couples as whoever gets the downstairs room will have to lug their belongings up and down a narrow staircase to get to a room thats not as nice as the more accessable one! Perhaps an update to the decor downstairs would alleviate this a little. However the downstairs room was lovely and cool with the A/C on and quieter than the room above. 3) We got through the whole electric allowance, and seemed to be using electricity when we weren't in the apartment. No problem as we weren't charged extra, but were being very careful with switching things off, and never used the oven/tv or the A/C in the main room, so not sure how this occured. 4) Access to wifi was charged at 3.50 Euro a day - I thought this was a bit steep considering the price of the apartment already. There is free wifi available through many parts of Valletta, so having this as a free addition would have been a nice touch. 5) We booked the taxi from the airport through holiday lets because we were told that the taxis booked through the company knew the apartment and its location. Our taxi picked us up promptly, but had no idea where the apartment was, cue lots of driving down/reversing up narrow streets, which was a bit worrying/humorous depending on how you look at it, but this is not the apartment owners fault, more a criticism of the pick up service offered. However these are minor points, the apartment has lots of character, is well situated and well decorated, and would probably be the ideal base for a couple or young family interested in seeing the sights of Malta. The welcome was friendly and professional, and staff were on hand to help with any problems. There were nice touches like having first aid box handy and leaflets of local attractions. Overall I'd highly recommend the apartment, the minor niggles above were really only because we travelled as two couples.

Response from the manager We are happy to learn you had a great time, your feedback of your experience whilst at the Old Mint really does assist us in knowing you enjoyed your stay, Thanks and Regards Paul.

“Brilliant holiday.”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2012

We have visited Malta on many occasions but this is the first time we have stayed in Valleta. The penthouse appartment is brilliant with great views over the bay to Silma. It is only about 150m from Republic Street and the same in the opposite direction to the Silma Ferry that runs every half hour over to Silma. The penthouse has everything you need for your stay and Claire (the owner) is usually on site for advise on were to eat and whats happening around Malta. Joe's bakery next door is the best thing since sliced bread. His Pizzas are the best we ever tasted, well worth a visit. Thank you Claire for the bottle of wine that you kindly bought for us at Cokney's restaurant, I hope to return the favour on our next trip and we will be staying at the Penthouse then. Thanks also to Paul and his team for organising everything so well, the airport transfers and checking in and out all went very smoothly and on time.

“Hidden Gem in Valletta”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2012

We selected this location because we wanted a self-catering city centre apartment (as opposed to one of Malta's noisy-clubby-seaside resorts) - and within easy walk of the bus station (as we didn't want the hassle of hiring a car). We selected The Old Mint Apartments primarily because of the location and the fact we like modernised historic buildings - but the roof terrace and separate balcony swayed our decision to splash out and rent the Penthouse. Good decision - we made great use of the outdoor space! As a couple travelling this time without friends or family we found the accommodation to be perfect for our needs; however, we agree with other comments regarding the second bedroom - smallish / dark / staircase / etc.. Why four stars from us? Plus points for the apartment (very helpful and friendly check-in-out / location / furnishings / layout on main floor) far outweighed the minus points (slightly damp smell when we arrived / squeaky bed / second bedroom which we didn't use anyway). Ideal for couples+one or parents and two smaller kids wanting a fab central apartment to explore the island, but not really ideal for four hefty adults or those with mobility problems. Top tips - book the transfer offered on the website from the airport to Old Mint - the airport taxi we used was useless and abandoned us a kilometre away from the building. If you are making your own way the web directions are inadequate - ask for better directions and the house number! We found Malta a very realistically priced Eurozone country to visit (April 2012) and the quality of restaurants in Valletta very good - the Maltese like their food!

Response from the manager Delighted you had on the whole a very satisfying stay, I would just like to point out that directions provided on our part are via a google map link with the full address. As you mentioned we advise all our guest to take our transfer method as this does offer a stress free arrival. In terms of the second bedroom this is very well documented on the advert having spiral stairs to access the bedroom and a picture displaying the room. In terms of damp this is coming from the high humidity levels we are subjected to in Malta, in fact you will see the roofs of cars wet early morning even in July/August, being surrounded directly by the sea creates this type of environment, but despite your points which we value we are happy you enjoyed your trip to 'Old Mint' Rgrds Paul...

“Amazing location, better for small groups”

Reviewed 25 Jun 2012

The apartment was lovely inside and out, with great views, and the location could not have been better. It was very well maintained, and the owners very helpful (particularly when a leak was discovered, fixing it asap with minimal disruption). The only negative was that the second bedroom is a bit dark with little natural light. This was fine for our group, my parents having the main room upstairs, and my 6 yr old and I sharing the second room, but depending on your group, the difference between the 2 rooms could cause upset!? We however had a wonderful long weekend, loved Malta, particularly Valletta and Mdina.

Response from the manager I am delighted on the whole your stay was a success and the location was perfect for you, an absolute pleasure having you visit us and hope to see you again. Rgrds Paul...

“The best apartment in Valletta”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2012

Located on the iconic Old Mint Street this apartment is ideally situated for sightseeing. Everywhere in Valletta is within a few minutes walk, including the buses and ferries. Entering into the internal courtyard the glass elevator takes you to your penthouse apartment. This was renovated around July 2011 to a very high spec. Open plan, light, well appointed and spotlessly clean. From the balcony there is a spiral staircase onto the rooftop with it's wonderful views. There are also excellent views from the dining area. The second bedroom is down a stone spiral staircase and so not to be recommended for those with mobility problems. However the apartment is very user friendly. Paul and his team ensure that everything is arranged for your convenience. We will be returning and suggest you visit too.

Response from the manager I cant agree more with your feedback, the owners have put their heart and soul into the Mint St properties and the rewards are your positive feedback, thank you for your kind words they are well received Paul...

“Fabulous, beautifully equipped penthouse in centre of Valletta.”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2011

We stayed in the penthouse apartment, but there are 2 other flats in the building. The location is great with the ferry to Sliema and St. Julians, and the main street of Valletta, only minutes away. There are local minimarkets and greengrocers with friendly owners just around the corner. The owner of the property, Claire, often works downstairs in the foyer area and was tremendously helpful and utterly charming. Access to the properties is via a glass lift and the views over Marsamxott Harbour from the roof terrace are spectacular, especially at night. The apartment is stunning - look at the photos on the Internet - it really is that good! It was only finished this summer and we were about the fourth set of people to use it. It is a little noisy after about 7.30/8.00am weekdays, but only if you have the windows open. The second bedroom is down a spiral staircase and rather spartan, with no view. The kitchen is the best equipped we've ever seen anywhere and everything is very "classy" (Claire is a graphic designer and it shows!) If you are visiting Malta, want to be in the capital, like to have easy access to the centre, shops, restaurants, bus station, etc. and like properties that have that "wow!" factor, this is for you! Stunning!

Response from the manager Thank you for your time in submitting your feedback.
