Valfrejus Resort Information

The Resort:

Valfrejus is a charming, traditional ski resort nestling into the forested slopes of the Maurienne Valley. Strict planning laws have ensured that all chalets are constructed in a typical Savoyard style.

Valfrejus has a friendly, authentic mountain village atmosphere with locals living in the resort year round. With each season there are plenty of activities on offer, with wonderful walking (including trails into Italy), trout fishing in rivers and lakes, mountain biking, ski lifts open in the Summer, paragliding and an active local tourist office with daily kids club and competitions. Valfrejus is the prettiest year-round resort in the Maurienne.

Its main points of interest are :- small family friendly resort, excellent ski area with good lift access, easy access by air, train or car, pedestrianised shopping area, restaurants ranging from fast food to great French and Italian cuisine, bars and nightclub, sports centre, ice rink and paragliding, lesser known than the big resorts so far less crowded, surrounded by the beautiful wooded slopes of the Maurienne Valley, close to the Vanoise National Park.

The new Orelle ski link into the Three Valleys - and the world's largest ski area - means that this region can now be re-named The Four Valleys. With a significant increase in tourists from all over Europe - a new motorway has also been constructed directly to Orelle & Valfrejus. This allows fast road access from Geneva, Lyon, Chambery, Grenoble & Turin airports. You can be in the Italian lakes within 2 hours drive. In addition the village of Modane just below Valfrejus has opened a TGV terminal with Paris now 4 hours away, Milan 3 hours and Turin 1.5 hours. This whole region offers endless possibilities, and as open as your energy and imagination allows.

Investment has also been made in new ski canons at Valfrejus, and Valfrejus has linked ski passes with its neighbouring resorts of La Norma, Aussois, Val Cenis and Bonneval Sur Arc. Within one hour's drive of Valfrejus - you have more than 2,000km of skiing on the French and Italian side, with regular buses running between the resorts.

Vanoise National Park

Vanoise National Park, the first national park of France, lies just south of the Mont Blanc Massif along the spine of the Haute Alpes, or High Alps, in the Savoie region of France. It covers a little over 520 square kilometers (200 square miles) but encompasses an impressive diversity of flora, fauna, geology, views, and points of interest. Chamois, ibex, marmots, 125 species of birds including golden eagles, various owls, and three-toed woodpeckers, as well as an enormous array of alpine wildflowers all thrive in the valleys and peaks of Vanoise. The geology ranges from sedimentary sandstone and limestone to metamorphic schist and gneiss, all showing signs of the extensive glaciation that shaped the Alps. The tremendous range of altitude through the park (770m - 2796m or 2,541ft - 9,227ft) provides habitat for many species of flora and fauna, as well as breathtaking views of snow-capped Alps and green valleys. The area is perfect for day hikes and mountain biking with several of the 11 refuges providing drinks and refreshments en route
