Description from owner

Description

The apartment is located right in the heart of the city (between Plaza del Ayuntamiento and Plaza de la Reina). It is tucked away on a pedestrianised street, surrounded by restaurants and bars and only a few minutes walk from one of the finest food markets in Europe (El Mercado Central).

The apartment has one spacious, light bedroom with a double bed, and one smaller one with a double cabin bed.

Further details indoors

The apartment is full of character, with high ceilings and shuttered windows. We have retained many of the original features, including the (wobbly) glass in the windows and beautiful locally-made old tiles on the floor. You reach it up a winding staircase with original cast-iron banisters.

Despite the central position, its location on a quiet back alley means that it is not surrounded by traffic noise or large crowds (with the possible exception of Las Fallas and other fiestas). It is also airy and bright thanks to the large windows.

We spend a lot of time here ourselves, and have worked hard to make it a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. We have a mix of antique and contemporary furniture and pictures. The shelves are well stocked with a selection of CDs, classic TV box sets (e.g. The Wire, Mad Men), guidebooks, maps, Spanish language and cookery books. We have ceiling fans (rather than air conditioning), because they are eco friendly and in more in keeping with the style of the apartment. They work very well at keeping the place cool in the hot summer months.

Entering the flat, you come into a small dining area with table and chairs (seating up to six people with the table extended).

From there, you move into the living room, which has a TV, DVD player and music system (with Bluetooth). In the window alcove there is a small table and two chairs. This is a great place to sit with a glass of wine, looking down on the bustle of the city below.

The sitting room opens into a large bedroom with a wardrobe made from reclaimed wooden shutters. The centrepiece of the main bedroom is the oak, ash and walnut four-poster bed. There is a study area with a desk and bookshelves.

The second bedroom is a cosy internal room leading off the dining area. It has a comfortable built-in cabin bed (double) with drawers underneath and a beautiful antique Burmese wall hanging.

We are keen cooks, so the kitchen has been totally updated. It is fully equipped with ceramic hobs, full size oven, food processor, blender, good knives, as well as cutlery, plates, etc.

The large, comfortable bathroom has a bath with shower, basin, bidet and toilet.

Location description from owner

The Valencian Country region

Valencia enjoys a Mediterranean climate so that, even in winter, the days are mostly bright and sunny. It is renowned for its exuberant nightlife and party spirit.

The port and the broad sandy beaches of Malvarrosa and Las Arenas are half an hour away from the city centre by metro or bus.

The national park of La Albufera south of the city, with boat trips on the huge lake, lunches in the many restaurants in the surrounding villages and unspoilt beaches, can easily be reached by bicycle (lots of hire shops in town), car or bus.

It's a great place for a weekend break but a longer stay provides an opportunity to really get to know the city.

Valencia

As the apartment is so centrally located, walking in any direction will bring you to places of interest. Turn left out of the front door heading south towards Plaza Ayuntamiento with its splendid main post office and beyond to the Modernista Estación del Norte.

Cross Calle San Vicente, where every festival procession seems to pass, to the Mercado Central, one of the biggest and best food markets in Europe. Opposite the market is La Lonja, an elegant medieval silk exchange.

A short step north takes you to Plaza de la Reina, crammed with outdoor cafes, the cathedral and the Carmen, the hub of the city’s nightlife.

Turn right from the apartment and round the corner to the east is the exuberant Palacio Dos Aguas which houses the ceramics museum, fashionable boutiques, the university and the main shopping area around Calle Colón.

“Excellent location, great apartment”

Reviewed 27 May 2012

Stayed here for long weekend, the apartment is in a great location in the heart of the city. We really felt in the centre of activity but the apartment was quiet and we were not disturbed by any noise. The facilities are good. Well equipped kitchen, clean everywhere and lovely to sit and relax under the effective ceiling fans in the morning with the sun coming through the windows. Just the break we needed. The owner, Alistair was excellent at sending information before our trip and responding to queries and met us on arrival to handover keys, great service. Wi Fi not available at the moment at the apartment, but is available outside the cafe downstairs for the price of a nice cold beer. Valencia is a great city with lots to see, good places to eat and the fantastic beach a short metro ride away. We'll be visiting again and have told a few friends about it too.
