La Tour de la Rose is a fantastic property set in a 5000m² garden with impressive views of the mountains, chateau de Castellaras and even a glimps of the Mediterranean sea. Accommodating up to 10 people in comfort. The property is situated just 2 kilometers from the village, on a hill in Valbonne, in a perfectly quiet setting and walking distance to the village centre. Its beautiful and large pool 16 x 10m is an ideal place to lounge and relax or enjoy barbecue meals. The villa is ideally located to enjoy the whole Riviera coast being situated just 10 minutes drive from motorway, 20 minutes from either Antibes or Cannes and at least 5 golf courses less than 10 minutes drive. The villa itself : Main house of 150m² of living surface : garden level - entrance hall, large and cozy fully equipped kitchen with dining area for 10 people, living room with comfy sofas, 2 bedrooms with 1 double bed (160 cm large) and 2 single beds (bunk beds). 2 bathrooms with tub and WC. Upper level, very romantic circular tower room - master bedroom with 1 double bed (180 cm large). By the swimming pool, a second annex house of 100m² with 2 independent studios, each with 1 bedroom, shower room and toilet and a little kitchen area. Large swimming pool (16x10m) with sunbeds. You prefer culture? Follow the painters itinerary and follow in the steps of the Grand Masters who will lead you to natural settings and untouched villages where the painters set up their easels: Nice, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Vence, Menton....

You are a nature lover? Don't miss the Mercantour nature reserve and the "Vallée des Merveilles", a listed and preserved site, where the exceptional wildlife made up of chamois, ibex, marmots, and birds of prey will delight you. To get there, take the winding road of the perched villages and admire the houses with their flagstone roves, trompe-l'oeil facades and the bell-towers of Baroque churches.

Nice is this wonderful contrast between the blue of the Mediterranean and the white of the mountain peaks ... Peaks which rise above 3000 m in altitude! Fans of cross-country skiing can make the most of more than 700 km of trails across sun-lit landscapes offering a matchless variety of scenery. Snow and sun at less than 1 hour from the coast !

Valbonne is situated a few kilometres inland from Cannes and Antibes, in the Alpes-Maritimes department of south-east Provence. The original historical village (the part that attracts visitors) is now closely linked to the modern development and technology park at Sophia Antipolis.

The old town in Valbonne is based around the 'Place des Arcades' - arcades are the stone sheltered arched areas around the edge of the square that once provided shelter to merchants - which is a pretty square with cafes and a few shops.

It is very unusual among medieval Provencal villages in that it follows a very precise, planned, grid layout with the streets all having the same width and standing at right angles to each other, following the original design established in 1519. This planning has more in common with the bastide towns of south-west France than the perched villages of Provence).

Likewise, the houses in Valbonne almost all follow the same design and originally had stables and livestock on the ground floor, living accommodation on the first floor, and then a hayloft on the top floor.

The streets are nicely maintained and lined with lots of stone and pastel painted houses, with exuberant plants adding a colourful touch. A few of the houses are now shops and boutiques but mostly they are still 'inhabited' houses. Being a grid pattern you are less likely to get lost than in most Provencal villages!

There are numerous small architectural highlights and features - a fountain here, a sundial there, an ancient doorway - to discover in the attractive old town.

The most important buildings to 'break the pattern' in Valbonne are the Chalaisian Abbey Church (just outside the bottom of the old town); an ancient mill (moulin) by the river; and the ancient Church of Valbonne (that predates the official formation of the village).

Outside the upper of the town (towards the extensive parking area) there is also a row of more practical shops such as greengrocers and bakers.

After exploring the pretty streets be sure to allow time for a stop in one of the cafes and restaurants in Valbonne old town centre and absorb the atmosphere.
