Location description from owner

The Abruzzo region

Abruzzo is described as 'The garden of Europe. A land of parks, the green lungs of central Italy. A protected paradise of beaches, hills, woods and mountains just waiting to be seen.'
We are ideally placed for you to enjoy and explore all these aspects of this unspoilt region on Italy

The climate is hot and sunny in summer, warm in spring and autumn. Winter sees snow on the mountains but milder temperatures at lower levels.

Cultural and religious festivals abound throughout the region at different times of the year. There are local markets and regular arts, music, folk and food festivals.

The beautiful Adriatic sea and many miles of coastal beaches are a short drive away, where you can spend a leisurely day relaxing or maybe try your hand at sailing, windsurfing or beach sports. The blue flag beaches are clean and safe for children. You also have a wide choice of bars, cafes and restaurants.

Vacri

Chieti has for centuries been one of the most important towns in Abruzzo. Imposing religious buildings include the cathedral Church of San Guistino and the Palazzo of the Diocesan Seminary. The beautiful Maruccino theatre runs music and operatic seasons.

There are two museums in Chieti exploring the regions ancient history and culture as a well as a gallery of modern art. In Pescara there are further museums focussing on the media and modern art.

Fascinating ancient hilltop towns and villages can be explored throughout the region including nearby Ripa Teatina where the famous Italian champion boxer Rocky Marciano was born.

Vacri is a typical small hilltop village with a range of shops, chemist, bank, post office, bar, cafes and pizzeria

“A little bit of Heaven.”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2012

Surely this is what Heaven will be. The stay at Casa Collina marked our eleventh trip to Italy, and we have entered it in the diary as one of our finest holidays. The perfectly appointed and immaculate house offers a setting of comfort, relaxation, and moments of unparalleled peace under the olive trees; with the glorious seashore and the mountains only short distances away, the location provides something for everyone. James and Madeleine Hill have seen to every detail and have left no stone unturned in making their guests feel welcomed in this amazingly updated two-hundred-year old house. We city dwellers, so accustomed to the hustle and fast-paced whirlwind routine, were enchanted by the crow of roosters in the morning, the smell of new mown hay, and the unspoiled atmosphere of life in rural Italy. The three weeks at Casa Collina passed far too quickly. We only hope that Heaven will be as grand. Susan and David Fixler, Dallas, Texas, USA

“Excellent!”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2012

We stayed in this clean and comfortable apartment for a week. Our stay was a complete bliss. I would get up early in the morning and bask in the sun reading my book under the olive tree listening to the birds. Breakfast in the shade enjoying the fresh local fruit and cheeses. Then set off to explore the mountains and the little villages. James and Madeline were very helpful giving tips and advise. I was sad to leave and return to London. We will stay in Casa Collina again.

“This fabulous home was a joy to stay in and the views were spectacular !”

Casa Collina is a wonderful home located in a peaceful setting with incredible views of the mountains and surrounding hill sides, We stayed for a month and enjoyed every minute of it ! The home is immaculate and is equipped with everything that any one might need to make their stay comfortable. The home is well cared for and everything works so well, the bathroom has all new fixtures and a great shower . The bedrooms are comfortable and cozy. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything that you might want to cook great Italian meals ! Dinning on the patio with breathtaking views of the mountains makes for an unforgettable experience. The back yard is filled with beautiful olive trees and you can enjoy to just sit and relax the day away. We had a wonderful time there and will return again !! Thanks so much again for all of your hospitality !! Jim and Jai

“Superb apartment in a fantastic area”

Reviewed 11 Oct 2011

We had a fantastic holiday with the family and couldnt rate the area high enough. So much to do with the family if you enjoy the beach, mountains, walking, architecture and the relaxed Italian culture. The apartment is very spacious with all the facilities you need! It was extremely hot whilst we were there and the only trouble we had was to keep cool enough at night. James and madeleine lent us a fan but for that time of year when the region is historically one of the warmest, maybe another fan or two would have made it a little more comfortable! That really was the only slight negative as they really could not have been more helpful and with fantastic panoramic views from the house, vineyards and such short distance to airport, lots of beaches & stunning mountains we really couldn't complain!! We would definitely go back and we still miss it now!! Just remember your mosquito repellant for the warm evenings sitting on the balcony or at the beautiful piazza in Vacri! Highly reccommended!
