Location description from manager

The Turkish Aegean Coast region

This stretch of the Turkish coastline is known as the Turkish Riviera or Turquoise Coast. The area around Fethiye is one of Turkeys most beautiful, offering a perfect mix of beach resorts, mountain scenery and small rural villages.

The famous Olu Deniz beach with its stunning blue lagoon is renowned as the most beautiful beach in Turkey, The lagoon is like a large lake, very calm, ideal for children with is gently shelving waters. The Turquoise Coast is without doubt one of the most beautiful areas in which to relax and unwind. From the backdrop of the Taurus mountains the coast is full of beautiful beaches, crystal clear turquoise seas, stunning scenery and numerous places of interest and ancient sites full of history and culture.

The area has something for everyone, the thrills of white water rafting, paragliding off babadag mountain, ringo riding down the stunning saklikent gorge or why not visit the Dalyan mud baths, for those who enjoy historical sights why not visit the historical sites of Ephesus and Pamukkale, or the nearby ancient ruins of Kadyanda (20 mins from the villa). For the less adventurous and those which wish to relax why not take a boat trip out of Fethiye or Olu Deniz, sit back, relax and have lunch cooked for you.

The choices are endless and you will wish to come back time after time.

The village of yesil Uzumlu is a small traditional Turkish village located 18kms from the bustling town of Fethiye. The village itself is surronded by a fantastic backdrop of mountains. Villa Poppy is situated in an elevated position, currently on an unmade road, surrounded by pine forests, with exceptional views over the valley and set with a backdrop against the mountains. As Uzumlu is 500m above sea level you will enjoy the cool mountain breezes which are more than welcome especially in the summer.

The traditional village of Uzumlu is approx a 25 minute walk away (approx 2 km) and it has managed to retain all of the natural charm and character of a traditional Turkish village whilst having the convenience of a modern town of Fethiye which is a twenty minutes drive away. The villa is currently situated up an unmade road.

Within the village you will be able to experience real Turkish village life and the atmosphere is where you can experience the real Turkey quiet and unspoilt and is ideal for those looking for a little peace and quiet, breathtaking scenery and rural life. The village of Uzumlu has small supermarkets in which to buy your essential groceries, several restaurants, a bakery in which to buy fresh bread every day, a barbers, post office and a local market on Fridays in order to buy local produce.

From the mosque in the village square you can catch a dolmus (Turkish taxi) which will take you into Fethiye. Fethiye is an all year round working town and is a mixture of market town, port and holiday resort. On the hill above Fethiye is a castle built for the Knights of Saint John and there are 2 simple rock tombs on the eastern face of the hill. Every Tuesday there is a huge open air market near the marina selling everything from clothes, shoes, household goods, gifts and food. Great to practice your bartering skills! The harbour and marina is bordered by palm tree lined promenades and back streets filled with shops, bars and restaurants, yielding bargains, gastronomic delights and bustling night life. The town is lined with shops galore as well as a maze of little side streets offering many hidden treasures. At night there are a good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants offering local and international cuisine. You will also find discos and cinemas in Fethiye town centre.

For a much livelier resort you can visit Hisaronu with its wide choice of shops, restaurants and late night bars, they also have a market every Monday. Near to Hisaronu is the deserted village of Kayakoy which was a Greek settlement founded at the beginning of the 14th century. It was evacuated during the Turkish-Greek war of 1919-1923 hence it's nickname of The Ghost Town. Its well worth a visit and the more energetic of you can walk there through the pine forests.

The world renown resort of Olu Deniz 'the blue lagoon' with its sheltered beach and lagoon which is ideal for children and swimming, is a short distance away from Fethiye. Here you can wander around the shops, sit and have a drink in one of the many seafront cafes and watch the paragliders land on the beach.

Calis beach is a 20 minute drive from the villa and is famous for its stunning sunsets, cooling breezes and beautiful long beach of single and sand which stretches across the bay to Fethiye. The seafront and area around Calis is flat and therefore suitable for strolling along the promenade deciding which of the many restaurants or bars in which to sit and watch the world go by.

“A week in heaven!!”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2015

We arrived in the early hours of the morning for a weeks holiday, to celebrate our anniversary. I had travelled from gatwick and, my husband from Istanbul ( long story ). Pegasus airlines had lost his suitcase and he was panicking as he had stupidly put my anniversary gifts inside ( jewellery). I made some tea and scoffed down the gift Of baklava Karen had left us. The next morning when we woke panic was over. Karen one of the owners already knew the case was missing and had arranged to have it delivered that morning. I was relieved and shocked that she had dealt with it while we slept. Amazing!! Dilemma over, we began to relax and, explore the wonderful villa poppy. I didn't realise exactly how beautiful it was until I woke up in the beautifully draped bed and, opened the balcony door and, saw the fantastic views. Karen and, Peter had done a large shop for us before we arrived. So, everything was there waiting for us. I can't actually describe how well equipped the villa is. Everything you could possibly want is there from powerful hair dryers and, straighteners in the bedrooms to everything you could possibly want in the kitchen. All of exceptional quality. The villa is immaculate with beautiful furniture throughout. There's even lovely dinnerware for eating outside. The pool is a good size and, cleaned everyday by the fairies I think. Karen said Peter cleaned it every morning but we never heard, or saw him. Magic!! Around the pool are lovely sun loungers and furniture. The whole place is beautiful inside and out. Karen called us after a couple of days and, did some more shopping for us. So kind. It was so quiet and, private there. We didn't go out. Just sunbathed all day and, watched the sun go down at night. Karen and Peter take care of your every need but, they give you privacy. We will definitely go back. My only complaint is I didn't book for 2 weeks instead of 1. Thank you Karen and Peter for enabling us to have love week. See you next year !!!

Thank you for your lovely review and it was lovely to meet you both and we are glad you got to spend your wedding anniversary at Villa Poppy. It was a pleasure and we hope to see you both next year x

“Wonderful holiday”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2015

My family and I have just returned from a holiday at villa poppy, never having had a villa holiday before we found villa poppy just perfect and as good as any 5 star hotel. It is large with plenty of rooms and spotlessly clean. The games room was a hit with everyone. The villa has everything you could possibly want and everything has been thought off even down to hair dryers! The views from the balconies are wonderful overlooking the mountains and the valley. The outside pool is cleaned every day and is private which is lovely. There is plenty of outside space and room for everyone. Karen and Pete who look after the villa are excellent and nothing is too much trouble, they are always at the end of a phone and will help with anything nothing is a problem. They arranged and transfers for us and recommended trips and excursions. We went to Dalyan mud baths and this trip is a must especially with mehmet the guide who is brilliant. We will be again next year for definite. Thank you for an amazing holiday.

Thank you for your lovely review and we are really pleased that you enjoyed your holiday at Villa Poppy. It was lovely meeting you and your family and we really look forward to seeing you again next year.

Jus returned home from staying at villa poppy for 10 days what can I say other than it was perfect. I travelled with my dad, sister and five teenagers. The villa is equipped with everything you could possibly need a real home from home. Very light, spacious and airy and spotlessly clean. For the teens the best thing was the private pool they spent many happy hours in there and all holiday we didn't have one complaint of being bored! The bedrooms are lovely with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. Outside is a fantastic covered terrace area with dining table and chairs, it was definitely my favourite place to sit, especially mornings and watch the sun rise over the mountains simply beautiful. Its also so very peaceful there, just the sounds of nature its wonderfully relaxing. Karen and Pete who look after the property were brilliant and helpful, they arranged our transfers, minibus hire and as it was my daughters birthday while we were out there they booked a table for us at a local restaurant and organised birthday cake for her. it's all those little touches that made our holiday so special. They also did some shopping for us before we arrived and left a lovely welcome pack. Pete came every morning to maintain the pool and garden area but never disturbed us, they were on hand if needed but left you to your holiday otherwise. We hired a vehicle for getting out and about and exploring the area, driving on the other side of the road took some getting used to but all part of the adventure. We went into the village of uzumlu plenty of times, would definitely recommend going to bakery for fresh bread every morning absolutely gorgeous, Eddys place was a favourite with us too, all the food is freshly cooked to order, the staff are lovely and friendly. the full English breakfast is lush and will set you up for the day. Their fillet steak is to die for, just melts in your mouth and cuts like a warm knife through butter as Im sure you can tell im a big fan! and the portion sizes are quite large too definitely great value for money. The grape garden is also a lovely place to eat we had my daughters birthday meal there, again the staff are lovely and the food was lush. All the villagers were really friendly and welcoming, there are a couple of mini markets and a beautiful little craft shop selling lots of handmade gifts could have spent a small fortune in there!!. Fethiye is about 20mins drive away, here you can find a couple of large supermarkets would recommend using the Kipa which is part of Tesco. Also the old town which has plenty of shops and stalls selling a wide range of gifts, jewellery, clothes, leather goods and pottery. The harbour is beautiful too, here you can watch the boats coming and going from the day trips. We made a trip to Ephesus (roman ruins) which is roughly 3-4hrs drive from Uzumlu but its definitely worth the effort a truly wonderful place to visit. All in all we had a fantastic time and have just booked to go back next year but for two weeks this time. I would definitely recommend villa poppy for anyone who is looking for a peaceful retreat form the hustle and bustle of life its simply perfect.

Thank you for your lovely comments and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Villa Poppy - all booked in for next year so we look forward to seeing you again.

This was our second stay in Poppy Villa this year and we were not disappointed Enjoyed our visit in July/Aug so much that booked to return in October Poppy Villa has everything you need for a relaxing holiday The villa is furnished to a very high standard and is maintained beautifully by Karen & Pete ... no matter how early you get up in the morning the pool and poolside has already had Pete's attention and is ready for you to enjoy (you had to be brave to dip in the pool in Oct - much warmer in the summer months) We enjoyed lovely weather but made good use of the games room on the afternoon when the rains came Uzumlu is a lovely traditional village with enough good restaurants /cafés & supermarkets Eddys Place a favourite for food or just a quiet drink We holidayed with two sixteen year old girls who much preferred Uzumlu to the busier towns of Calis & Fethiye (this was refreshing for us parents) There is so much to see and do and can all be arranged through Karen Quad biking in Kayakoy & kayaking in the blue lagoon were a favourite this time We are already planning a return visit next summer Thanks again to Karen & Pete from The McDonalds, Doigs & Emma

What can we say, we are so glad you all enjoyed yourselves and the villa and hopefully we will see you again next year! Thank you x

“Lovely villa with all amenities and in great condition”

I would go back again. The property managers were first class and couldn't do enough to help, from stocking the fridge prior to arrival to giving advice on the local area and arranging transfers to and from the airport. It's so useful to have someone to talk to about the holiday who's actually living in the vicinity. The villa was clean, air con in all rooms ( except the games room but there are fans in there anyway) and looked great. Pool was good and cleaned every morning but it was too hot to consider cooking with the poolside BBQ! Bedrooms were nicely furnished. I will be considering returning.

It was lovely meeting you and your family as we are really pleased that you enjoyed the villa and your holiday. Hopefully we will see you again. x

Best villa we have stayed in but shush, don't tell everyone because you'll all want to stay here and we want it all to ourselves!

Thank you for your lovely review it was really good seeing you again and meeting some more of your family. W are really glad you enjoyed your holiday and look forward to seeing you all again x

“Better than Life!”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2014

Lovely villa in a peaceful part of the village. The accommodation was equipped with everything we required including a games room, although spent too much time by the pool to brush up on our table tennis and pool. Situated just outside the centre a car is essential, but worth it as the villa sits on a lovely plot with a wonderful mountain view and well secluded. Karen was wonderful offering any help we needed without intruding on the holiday (the mobile phone supplied was an asset). This is our second visit to the village and highly recommended if you are looking for the real Turkish experience. If you haven't visited the village then don't! I only say that as I want to keep it to myself and wouldn't want it spoilt by too many tourists. OK, go but don't tell your friends. There are plenty of places to eat but recommend Lup Lups which is a small café (The owner Goulay is lovely) and do try the pizza shop (possibly the best pizzas ever)

Thank you for your feedback, it was lovely meeting you and we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Poppy and we hope to see you again soon.
