Location description from owner

The Erzincan Province region

Uzumlu is a traditional Turkish village with a relaxed village atmosphere. The people are very friendly. The village is famous for its wine and lace making and is known for its fine grapes. The word 'uzum' means “grape“. Many of the local women make & sell their goods in the local shops such as scarves, table cloths, curtains & other linen products. On the walk to the villa, you will often see grapes hanging from traditional farm holdings with chillies drying with sheep and goats wandering down the narrow lanes. There are many opportunities in the landscape and the local environment for artists to gain inspiration for their creativity. For historians, this part of Turkey offers a range of historic attractions from the ancient Lycian ruins in Cadianda, a 500 B.C Roman village, 6 km away to Kayakoy 'ghost village' 30 minutes away and also Letoon, Xanthos and Sidyma. For walkers, there are beautiful tracks in the pine forest and the Uzumlu valley. For more energetic hikers, there is the Lycian Way. For children there is a park with a slide & swings in Uzumlu and an aqua park in Fethiye. There is also horseriding, quad biking, paragliding (from Babadab mountain near Oludeniz), sailing, scuba diving and white water rafting.

Uzumlu

Nearby beaches: Calis (15 mins drive) known for its spectacular sunsets with a protected area for turtles at the far end of the beach, Oludeniz (40 mins drive) the famous blue lagoon with its calm, gently sloping waters which are safe for young children A bit further away: Patara, a beautiful, sandy windswept beach (1 hour's drive south of the villa) Izutzu Beach, a beautiful sandy beach (which is the nesting ground of the loggerhead turtle) near Dalyan (1 hours drive north of the villa: experience the mudbaths here) Sarigerme, a sandy beach good for windsurfing & sailing. There is also a golf course at Sarigerme.

“Beautiful!”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2015

This is a 9/10 Villa with beautiful mountain top views. The pool is lovely, the villa is clean, spacious and bright with air con in all bedrooms. The location is great with easy cheap bus routes as well as a local taxi service. The beds are comfortable and rooms large with breathtaking views. There is wonderful wildlife to be seen around the villa and we were even joined at the poolside by a wild baby tortoise! The garden and pool is maintained daily. There is a steep hill to climb to get to the villa from the village so sturdy shoes a must. The only drawback was lack of wifi in the villa (which is why its not a 10/10) but this can be picked up in the local bars and restaurants down in the village. A wonderful holiday whith much to see and do locally and Jo, the owner extremely helpful, along with her villa manager, Bulant.

Thank you for your review. I am so pleased you had a fantastic holiday. After finding the land to build the villa a few years ago, designing and building the villa, it makes me very happy that I can now share the villa and it's amazing views with others. Guest's reviews show me that they love it as much as I do. A joyful experience! With regards internet, I am constantly in a dilemma about whether or not to install internet. As you have said, internet is readily accessible in the village so it is possible to get internet. Our lives are so bombarded with technology, I do like to be able to have to have a peaceful, no internet time but I do appreciate that it would be convenient. Jo

“Villa Yayla is a gem!”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2014

Villa Yayla is a lovely villa, very comfortable and with beautiful views over the countryside. It is near a delightful village with good restaurants and bars as well as good shops. Being at villa Yayla was very peaceful and an excellent base to explore the area.

Thank you for your review. I am very pleased you are enjoying your stay. It makes me very happy to know that you like the villa and Uzumlu village.

“Fabulous villa in peaceful location!”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2013

We had a fantastic holiday in Yayla. The villa exceeded our expectations and was the most well equipped we have ever stayed in. We received a warm welcome from the house manager and a welcome pack of food and drink was waiting for us! The pool was wonderful for those lazy days spent at the villa and the walk to Uzumlu was less than 10 minutes. It was easy to manage without a car...the local minibus service to Fethiye was regular and the Local town and markets have everything you need. All in all a fabulous break...we can't wait to return!

Thank you so much for your review - it makes me very happy that you had such a lovely time.

“I loved my stay - regenerating, stunning and authentic location”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2013

I loved everything about the villa. The location was great for hilly walks (trainers needed) and stunning views. There were also amazing roman tombs close to the villa which gave a sense of history. The local village was about a 15 minute walk down hill and the village people were kind and friendly. Meals in the local restaurants were authentic and reasonably priced, our favourite restaurant felt like someones front room. It was 20 minutes drive to Fethiye and I would recommend a car to make the most of days out. However, if you just wanted to relax and stay at the villa and enjoy the scenery and swimming pool it would also be perfect.

Thank you for your review. I am very pleased you loved the villa and Uzumlu. Jo

“Bliss”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2013

We stayed at Yayla for 16 days and loved every minute of our stay there. We went with two friends and in laws joined us a few day later. We arrived just after a storm so NO sun that day, We got up early the next day to glorious sunshine and that weather stayed for the duration of our holiday. The villa is huge, has lovely comfy sofas and all the kitchen equipment you need for your holiday. It is a home from home. We liked Uzumlu loads. Lovely traditional village away from the tourist trap but with enough restaurants to eat out should you need to. Plenty of local shops too. The cafe in the square does lovely breakfasts and the service exceptional. The shop next to this also does a taxi service should you need it. We used it a few times as the walk up to the villa can be a bit taxing at times. Needless to say we got quite fit whilst there. If you wanted to go to the tourists traps like Fethiye.Olu Denis and Ovacik they are only a 20 - 40 Dolmus ride away. Fethiye being the closest. We went the a few times to the supermarkets and the big market which is on a Tuesday. Uzumlu's market is on a Friday which is good for fruit and vegetables if you are eating at the villa. We ate mostly at the villa but had 4 or 5 nights out in the local restaurants. I was worried about being bitten due to the greenery around the villa but Nobody got any mosquito bites at all. The pool is very private which was a bonus. We loved it that much we bought a resale villa when we were there - now just cannot wait for the villa to be ours. We are hoping to retire early and live there permanently in a few months. Lots to sort out now (thanks Jo)! Cadianda ruins are worth a visit but be warned we walked to it from the road and it took us hours - we were very exhausted when we eventually got home. It may be quicker from the villa through the woods but we failed to find it that way. The villa is also spotless just could not fault it. All in all we all had a lovely time here, Thanks Jo for letting us share your wonderful home!

So pleased you had a fantastic holiday, Fion. Hope you visit again. Jo

“Best Holiday So Far!”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2013

My wife and my son stayed here last year and we all agree it has been our best holiday so far! We were new to villa renting and Jo was lovely and helped us get things arranged and gave us as much info as we needed. We wanted a private villa that wasn't overlooked and don't think we could have got one any better! We hired a car for getting about and would recommend if your planning on exploring. All the locals were superb and couldn't fault...so friendly! We left a bar without paying by accident (my son took a melt down and had to leave asap) and they never bothered as "they knew we'd be back again". The villa is well equipped with everything you'd need and the rooms are spacious and relaxing. It has plenty of open space for kids to explore and run free while still being secure for them. We were on the verge of booking again but my wife is expecting our second child. Hopefully though we'll be back in 2014!!! If you are considering this villa you will not be disappointed!

So please you enjoyed the villa, Ally. We have a new addition to the villa this year, an enormous white inflatable swan who we named Soloman. I'm sure your children would love him. Jo

“Luxury in the mountains!”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2013

This villa is a must for anyone who enjoys peace & tranquility, beautifully situated in the mountains above Uzumlu. The villa itself has everything you could ask for including wonderful views and a fabulous pool. We were thoroughly spoiled & would recommend to all !!

So glad you enjoyed the villa Laura. Hope to see you again soon. Jo

“Tranquil setting with magnificent view.”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2013

Jo gave advice on journey from airport which is a relatively quick and easy journey. To reach the villa the route takes you through the village itself which retains its appealing local character. On arrival there is the most delightful view across the valley towards the distant hills - the ideal spot for early evening drinks in the warm sunshine. There are interesting and attractive country walks from the villa itself and many inland and coastal beauty spots within a short drive.

Glad you enjoyed your time at Yayla, Joyce. hope to see you again soon. Jo

“Excellent - the perfect secluded getaway!”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2013

Really enjoyable stay at Yayla. We wanted somewhere quiet and undisturbed and this worked perfectly. You could cope without a car but hiring one will give you additional options. We can't comment on local beaches, day trips, etc as we enjoyed the villa so much that we rarely left other than for the Fethiye market, meals out and shopping. Will certainly look to return to Yayla in the future.

Glad you enjoyed your time at Yayla. Hope to see you again one day Peter. Best wishes, jo

“Uzumlu villa (Yayla)”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2013

This is a large villa with 3 ensuite rooms and a pool sited in a large plot with tremendous views down to the village and beyond. There are sun loungers and a good sized shaded area as well as a separate Kosh(gazebo) building which was good for chilling out. The access to the property is steep in one place but it is only 10 mins. walk to the village and maybe 15 back. The villa is well stocked with glasses, crockery and other kitchen equipment and the cooker and BBQ were both efficient. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well fitted and practical with good a/c units. The village is unspoilt with many properties totally unrenovated but there are four good eating places plus a "cafe" which is good for snacks and breakfast. The 3 or four minimarkets provide all necessary requirements (beware unpriced goods in one of these!!) but a trip to Fethiye to stock up is well worthwhile once in a week. A car is probably necessary unless one intends spending the majority of time around the pool - the area is beautiful and it would be a waste not to see it.

Thank you for your review Keith. Hope you will visit again soon. Best wishes, jo
