Description from owner

Description

Yayla is a beautiful, stone villa with its own pool nestling happily on the edge of the hillside in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is situated next to the pine forests and overlooks the Uzumlu valley. There are three air conditioned en suite bedrooms: perfect for three couples or a family of six. Uzumlu is a traditional Turkish village with a relaxed village square with a mosque, tea houses, mini supermarkets & a few restaurants. The people are very friendly. The village is famous for its wine and lace making and is known for its fine grapes. The word 'uzum' means “grape“. Many of the local women make & sell their goods in the local shops such as scarves, table cloths, curtains & other linen products. On the walk to the villa, you will often see grapes hanging from traditional farm holdings with chillies drying with sheep and goats wandering down the narrow lanes.

There is a large, fully enclosed garden with spectacular views over the Taurus mountains. The garden is on two levels. There is a private pool, an outside shower, a stone barbecue, sun beds and fruit trees on the upper level. The fruit trees include fig, pomegranate, mandarin, lemon, satsuma, plum, peach, orange and olive trees. There is a step down to the lower level. Here you can relax and drink tea in the traditional Turkish kosh (a gazebo with cushions) and marvel at the stunning views overlooking the village.

Moving into the villa itself, on the ground floor, there is an open plan kitchen and a light, spacious living room (with a high ceiling) and a bedroom. As you walk though an arch into the living room, you will find a stone fireplace and a tastefully decorated living room with three sofas; a 3 seater sofa and two 2 seater sofas. There is a range of DVD's and a selection of Turkish novels to read. The bedroom can be made up as a double or 2 singles. As it is on the ground floor, it is good for children & is also suitable for disabled access. All bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning & en suite bathrooms.

On the upper floor there are two large, spacious double bedrooms. Bedroom one has a comfortable king sized bed (or 2 singles). Bedroom 2 has a double bed. Both rooms have balconies with spectacular views of the Uzumlu valley & surrounding mountains.

Getting around

You can get the local bus (the dolmus) in the village square of Uzumlu. This will take you into Fethiye and further afield. alternatively you might want to heir a car (see above comments). I usually hire a car as this makes shopping from the local super markets in Fethiye easy. Alternatively, there are plenty of mini supermarkets in Uzumlu. The local bread is sold for 1 Turkish lira. This is a fixed price by the government. I have said a car is recommended but many previous guests have had a lovely holiday with not having a car.

Interaction with guest

My house manager, gardener and cleaner have been described by guests as 'second to none'. My house manager will greet you on arrival and give you information to help your holiday run smoothly. He will tell you about everything at the villa. He can tell you about local attractions and will go out of his way to help you. He lives in the nearby town, Fethiye and can be contacted by mobile. We leave contact details for police, health and emergency services on a fridge magnet, so it is easy to locate. The gardener and cleaner live in Uzumlu. There is also a folder a the villa that provides information for guests on local attractions and information about the villa. For example, using the barbecue in Turkish style.

“Beautiful villa in beautiful surroundings.”

Reviewed 26 Jan 2018

Villa Yayla made our holiday amazing! The villa was spacious, comfortable and spotless with all the amenities we could have needed. A really peaceful place to unwind and relax. It was wonderful being able to get up and jump straight in a pool and have such an amazing view over the local countryside. The Kosh was a real highlight, being able to have dinner and drinks there in the evenings felt really special. The area is calm and the local town traditional with a friendly family run restaurant with delicious food and plenty of local shops to pick up bits from. There is also a fun walk up to the high point above the villa, with more amazing views and some ancient ruins to explore. Less local activities included several beaches, boat trips and a big market to wander around (There is also a local market in the village on certain days). Overall my stay at Yayla was one of my absolute favourite holidays, I cannot wait to come back and would recommend to anyone.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Yayla and would be delighted if you would like to come and stay again.

“Beautiful!”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2015

This is a 9/10 Villa with beautiful mountain top views. The pool is lovely, the villa is clean, spacious and bright with air con in all bedrooms. The location is great with easy cheap bus routes as well as a local taxi service. The beds are comfortable and rooms large with breathtaking views. There is wonderful wildlife to be seen around the villa and we were even joined at the poolside by a wild baby tortoise! The garden and pool is maintained daily. There is a steep hill to climb to get to the villa from the village so sturdy shoes a must. The only drawback was lack of wifi in the villa (which is why its not a 10/10) but this can be picked up in the local bars and restaurants down in the village. A wonderful holiday whith much to see and do locally and Jo, the owner extremely helpful, along with her villa manager, Bulant.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review. I am so pleased you had a fantastic holiday. After finding the land to build the villa a few years ago, designing and building the villa, it makes me very happy that I can now share the villa and it's amazing views with others. Guest's reviews show me that they love it as much as I do. A joyful experience! With regards internet, I am constantly in a dilemma about whether or not to install internet. As you have said, internet is readily accessible in the village so it is possible to get internet. Our lives are so bombarded with technology, I do like to be able to have to have a peaceful, no internet time but I do appreciate that it would be convenient. Jo

Villa Yayla is a lovely villa, very comfortable and with beautiful views over the countryside. It is near a delightful village with good restaurants and bars as well as good shops. Being at villa Yayla was very peaceful and an excellent base to explore the area.

“Fabulous villa in peaceful location!”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2013

We had a fantastic holiday in Yayla. The villa exceeded our expectations and was the most well equipped we have ever stayed in. We received a warm welcome from the house manager and a welcome pack of food and drink was waiting for us! The pool was wonderful for those lazy days spent at the villa and the walk to Uzumlu was less than 10 minutes. It was easy to manage without a car...the local minibus service to Fethiye was regular and the Local town and markets have everything you need. All in all a fabulous break...we can't wait to return!

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your review - it makes me very happy that you had such a lovely time.

“Bliss”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2013

We stayed at Yayla for 16 days and loved every minute of our stay there. We went with two friends and in laws joined us a few day later. We arrived just after a storm so NO sun that day, We got up early the next day to glorious sunshine and that weather stayed for the duration of our holiday. The villa is huge, has lovely comfy sofas and all the kitchen equipment you need for your holiday. It is a home from home. We liked Uzumlu loads. Lovely traditional village away from the tourist trap but with enough restaurants to eat out should you need to. Plenty of local shops too. The cafe in the square does lovely breakfasts and the service exceptional. The shop next to this also does a taxi service should you need it. We used it a few times as the walk up to the villa can be a bit taxing at times. Needless to say we got quite fit whilst there. If you wanted to go to the tourists traps like Fethiye.Olu Denis and Ovacik they are only a 20 - 40 Dolmus ride away. Fethiye being the closest. We went the a few times to the supermarkets and the big market which is on a Tuesday. Uzumlu's market is on a Friday which is good for fruit and vegetables if you are eating at the villa. We ate mostly at the villa but had 4 or 5 nights out in the local restaurants. I was worried about being bitten due to the greenery around the villa but Nobody got any mosquito bites at all. The pool is very private which was a bonus. We loved it that much we bought a resale villa when we were there - now just cannot wait for the villa to be ours. We are hoping to retire early and live there permanently in a few months. Lots to sort out now (thanks Jo)! Cadianda ruins are worth a visit but be warned we walked to it from the road and it took us hours - we were very exhausted when we eventually got home. It may be quicker from the villa through the woods but we failed to find it that way. The villa is also spotless just could not fault it. All in all we all had a lovely time here, Thanks Jo for letting us share your wonderful home!

Owner's reply: So pleased you had a fantastic holiday, Fion. Hope you visit again. Jo

“Best Holiday So Far!”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2013

My wife and my son stayed here last year and we all agree it has been our best holiday so far! We were new to villa renting and Jo was lovely and helped us get things arranged and gave us as much info as we needed. We wanted a private villa that wasn't overlooked and don't think we could have got one any better! We hired a car for getting about and would recommend if your planning on exploring. All the locals were superb and couldn't fault...so friendly! We left a bar without paying by accident (my son took a melt down and had to leave asap) and they never bothered as "they knew we'd be back again". The villa is well equipped with everything you'd need and the rooms are spacious and relaxing. It has plenty of open space for kids to explore and run free while still being secure for them. We were on the verge of booking again but my wife is expecting our second child. Hopefully though we'll be back in 2014!!! If you are considering this villa you will not be disappointed!

Owner's reply: So please you enjoyed the villa, Ally. We have a new addition to the villa this year, an enormous white inflatable swan who we named Soloman. I'm sure your children would love him. Jo

“Luxury in the mountains!”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2013

This villa is a must for anyone who enjoys peace & tranquility, beautifully situated in the mountains above Uzumlu. The villa itself has everything you could ask for including wonderful views and a fabulous pool. We were thoroughly spoiled & would recommend to all !!

Owner's reply: So glad you enjoyed the villa Laura. Hope to see you again soon. Jo

“Tranquil setting with magnificent view.”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2013

Jo gave advice on journey from airport which is a relatively quick and easy journey. To reach the villa the route takes you through the village itself which retains its appealing local character. On arrival there is the most delightful view across the valley towards the distant hills - the ideal spot for early evening drinks in the warm sunshine. There are interesting and attractive country walks from the villa itself and many inland and coastal beauty spots within a short drive.

Owner's reply: Glad you enjoyed your time at Yayla, Joyce. hope to see you again soon. Jo

“Excellent - the perfect secluded getaway!”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2013

Really enjoyable stay at Yayla. We wanted somewhere quiet and undisturbed and this worked perfectly. You could cope without a car but hiring one will give you additional options. We can't comment on local beaches, day trips, etc as we enjoyed the villa so much that we rarely left other than for the Fethiye market, meals out and shopping. Will certainly look to return to Yayla in the future.

Owner's reply: Glad you enjoyed your time at Yayla. Hope to see you again one day Peter. Best wishes, jo

“Uzumlu villa (Yayla)”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2013

This is a large villa with 3 ensuite rooms and a pool sited in a large plot with tremendous views down to the village and beyond. There are sun loungers and a good sized shaded area as well as a separate Kosh(gazebo) building which was good for chilling out. The access to the property is steep in one place but it is only 10 mins. walk to the village and maybe 15 back. The villa is well stocked with glasses, crockery and other kitchen equipment and the cooker and BBQ were both efficient. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well fitted and practical with good a/c units. The village is unspoilt with many properties totally unrenovated but there are four good eating places plus a "cafe" which is good for snacks and breakfast. The 3 or four minimarkets provide all necessary requirements (beware unpriced goods in one of these!!) but a trip to Fethiye to stock up is well worthwhile once in a week. A car is probably necessary unless one intends spending the majority of time around the pool - the area is beautiful and it would be a waste not to see it.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review Keith. Hope you will visit again soon. Best wishes, jo
