Situated in the historical centre of Uzès, this is a stylish first floor apartment, with impressive views out onto the central Place aux Herbes. The apartment opens out onto the wonderful Place aux Herbes, with its fountain, cafes and plane trees on one side, and has 2 private, south-facing terraces at the back with views over a small quieter square and the Eglise St Etienne (St Stephen's church), ideal for al fresco dining, sunbathing and relaxation. The Renaissance 'hotel particulier' in which the apartment is housed lends the property a particular charm with its stone staircase, wooden beamed ceilings and terracotta floors.

The 90 sqm property is spacious and stylishly minimalist, mixing retro and modern design to contrast with the wooden beams and tiled floors. It features 2 double bedrooms - one with a modern twist on the four poster bed; a large 45 sqm living room with ultra-modern kitchen and polished concrete bar and stools for dining; and a fully equipped bathroom. This provençal pied-à-terre offers all modern comforts in an idyllic setting: flat screen TV, music system, a wide selection of books, tasteful artefacts and decorative items from around the world, and wifi internet connection.

The Uzes climate and the apartment's modern central heating mean the apartment can be rented at any time of year for a comfortable stay. There is residential vehicle access to the Place aux Herbes (except during the peak holiday season in July and August when access to the square is restricted) to drop off your luggage at the door. Free parking is available in Uzes within easy walking distance of the property.

Uzès is rated as one of France's most beautiful towns and was voted a must-see destination of 2014 by the UK's Guardian newspaper. It is perhaps at its best in the spring and autumn, while the summer brings throngs of tourists, a range of festivals and cafes extend out across the Place aux Herbes. The Place aux Herbes plays host to two weekly markets - on Wednesdays and Saturdays - all year round, which you can observe from your windows. The town has a vibrant cultural scene (annual modern dance and classical music festivals, a feria, exhibitions) with art galleries, a theatre, a historic cinema (showing films in English), antique shops, dozens of restaurants and bars and interesting local shops. Explore the maze of its streets and alleyways and discover a town rich in history, with beautifully preserved traditional architecture, a cathedral, a castle, and much more.

Nestled atop a hill, Uzès is surrounded by garrigue - the ubiquitous provençal vegetation. A 5-minute walk from the apartment leads you to the delightfully shaded Vallée de l'Eure, at the foot of the cathedral, starting point for many walks in the surrounding area. Or just enjoy the slow-flowing river and numerous ruins peppered around the park. Uzès is ideally located to visit Avignon, Nîmes, Montpellier, Aigues-Mortes, the Camargue, the Cévennes, the Ardèche gorges, les Baux de Provence, Arles and the beaches of the Mediterrannean. That's when you've finished discovering the many lovely villages and natural wonders close at hand around Uzès.

Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Uzès, rated as one of France's most beautiful towns, has a typical provençal feel and a lively heart. The Place aux Herbes plays host to two weekly markets - on Wednesdays and Saturdays - all year round, which you can observe from your windows. It also has a vibrant cultural scene (annual modern dance and classical music festivals, a feria, exhibitions) with art galleries, a theatre, a historic cinema (showing films in English), antique shops, dozens of restaurants and bars and interesting local shops. Explore the maze of its streets and alleyways and discover a town rich in history, with a beautifully preserved typical architecture, a cathedral, a castle, and much more.

Given its climate and the modern central heating of the apartment, Uzes can be an all-year round destination. The town is perhaps at its best in spring and the autumn. For those that like the buzz of summer in Provence and the heat, summer is also a great time to visit as Uzes plays hosts to a number of festivals, including a Feria with bull-running in the streets (a typical provencal tradition), usually in early August. The Place aux Herbes comes alive as cafe terraces spread out across the square, and from the apartment you are quite literally "part of" that typical provencal town scene!

Nestled atop a hill, Uzès is surrounded by 'garrigue' - the ubiquitous provençal vegetation. A 5-minute walk from the apartment leads you to the delightfully shaded Vallée de l'Eure, at the foot of the cathedral, starting point for many walks in the surrounding area. Or just enjoy the slow-flowing river and numerous ruins peppered around the park.

Uzes

Uzès is ideally located to visit the giant Roman aquaduct le Pont du Gard (20min), Avignon, Nîmes, Montpellier, Aigues-Mortes, the Camargue, the Cévennes, the Ardèche gorges, les Baux de Provence, Arles and the beaches of the Mediterranean.

Mind you, that's only when you've finished discovering the many lovely villages and natural wonders close at hand around Uzès! Denis' favourite is Collias, where he loves jumping off rocks into the lovely refreshing river (with 'cascade du Sautadet' a close second). Alex's is les Concluses, a dramatic natural area near the charming town of Lussan.
