Description

Pitlands Barns is divided into three separate units, The Granary, the Stables and the Cart Shed, and is ideal for families and friends wanting to spend time together. The Granary is the most spacious, sleeping 6 in 3 bedrooms, but can accommodate 14 people for dining and socialising in the large entrance hall and first floor open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area with a viewing gallery. The Cart Shed also has a very spacious living area and kitchen. The Stables is the smallest of the three but still offers ample space for 4.

Each property has well equipped kitchens and en-suite facilities with baths and showers. In our efforts to protect our environment, air source heat pumps provide underfloor heating throughout the barns, with individual room thermostats for you to control. This is supplemented by wood burning stoves with wood supplied from the farm. Solar heating provides all the hot water and a rainwater harvester provides water for the washing machine and flushing the loos.

The area is ideal for walking or cycling through beautiful countryside teeming with wildlife such as deer, pheasants, kestrels and red kites. In the evening look out for badgers, tawny owls and pipistrelle bats. The woods above the farm are a picture in May and June with bluebells and wild orchids. From the top of the farm on a clear day there are stunning views of Chichester Harbour and the Isle of Wight. A footpath runs alongside the garden leading directly to a pub in the village of Stoughton,10 minutes walk through scenic woodlands. A 20 minute walk in the opposite direction along a country lane and fields leads to a pub in the village of Walderton.

Each barn has it's own fenced in garden and patio area with charcoal barbecue table, chairs and umbrella. Beautiful views of farmland and woodland, The gardens are away from the single track road leading to the farm.

The South of England has lots to offer visitors, with the South Downs National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty which stretches 100 miles from Winchester to Beachy Head in East Sussex. Visitors can walk or cycle along the South Downs Way, a national trail that follows old routes along chalk enscarpment and ridges of the Downs, explore the historic towns and charming villages, or enjoy the stunning coastline and beaches.

Up Marden

Pitlands Barns is situated on a working farm between the villages of Walderton and Up Marden in the heart of the South Downs National Park. From the top of the farm on a clear day, there are stunning views of Chichester harbour and the Isle of Wight. Walk or cycle on the many footpaths and bridleways through ancient woodlands and beautiful countryside in the surrounding area. These footpaths link to the Southdowns Way, a 100 mile footpath stretching from Winchester to Eastbourne. The nearest pub is two miles by road, but only a 10 minute walk through the woods. The nearest village shop is 5 km away.

The historic city of Chichester is 8 miles away with its Cathedral, The Festival Theatre, Planetarium and Galleries.

Portsmouth lies 15 miles away with its Historic Dockyard and shopping, restaurants and entertainment at Gunwarf Quays. There are regular crossings to the Isle of Wight for day trips.

Goodwood Estate is 8 miles away with its horse racing, Festival of Speed and The Revival. Polo at Cowdray and horse racing at Fontwell are within easy reach too.

There are National Trust properties at Stansted House and Uppark House nearby, and Fishbourne Roman Palace is just 5 miles away. Pitlands Barns is on the site of a Roman Villa built in the same era, some of which was excavated in 1967, but has since been covered over. Some coins and pottery are on display in the barns.
