The Paphos District

Paphos enjoys 300 days plus of sunshine a year and has a history that dates back thousands of years. Modern Paphos is split into two parts, the upper part being the old town known locally as “Ktima”, and the lower part by the coast known as “Kato Paphos”. The upper part of the town contains the main commercial centre, with banks, shops and modern museums.

The bustling lower 'port' part of the town contains many restaurants, gift shops and most of the historic sites. Paphos is rich in ancient and natural sites, which is reflected in the fact that it is included in the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage Sites, and many of these sites date back to the Roman Ages.

Sites include the medieval fort built by the Lusignans in 13th Century AD and commands great view over the harbour.

Mosaics (located near harbour). Four ancient houses from the 2nd Century AD and discovered in 1962. Incredible detailed mosaic floors.

In the same "historical theme park" is the fantastic ampitheatre dating back to 2nd Century AD is still used for plays today.

Just east of Paphos a beautiful coastal drive can be enjoyed to Aphrodite's rock where it is said the Greek legend rose from the waves.

Just to the North of Paphos, approximately 5 mins drive away are the Tomb of the Kings - a grand 3rd century burial site. Further on is the popular resort of Coral Bay with it's Blue Flag beach, many restaurants & tavernas and tourist shops. The sea caves are also nearby here.

Further north still and you will come to the Akamas peninsula with its beautiful gorge, great for walking and good mountain bike terrority. Slightly further up the coast is Lara bay where you may (depending on time of year) visit the turtle sanctuary.

The Troodos mountains are also easily accessible by car and provide beautiful scenery good walking routes and even skiing in the winter months.

Iris Cottage is located in a convenient area of popular Kato Paphos. Just a short walk away are numerous shops, tavernas, restaurants, hotels and of course the beautiful seafront where you will find a regular bus service to the harbour, market are and Coral Bay. A leisurely stroll will take you into the Paphos harbour area where you will find everything you need and lots more! Water sports, scuba diving, sea cruises, fishing trips open top buses can all be found just a short walk away. A bus ride away is the waterpark and mini golf and karting track.

"Fantastic place to stay in a beautiful country!"

Have visited Paphos Cyprus numerous times since 2007 and love it more each time we go. Such a relaxing holiday and would never stay anywhere other than Iris Cottage. The accommodation is brilliant with everything you could need whether you stay for a few days or a month! Fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms which are fantastic size with plenty of wardrobe space, lovely living area which now has a dvd player and a selection of dvd's their for you to watch. There is a nice patio area overlooking the pool which is very private and lovely to sit out and have your breakfast or an evening drink! Only a short walk from the bars/taverna's and the main street and harbor. Also a very short drive from the airport and you can either hire a car or get a taxi - both of which the owners are more than happy to assist with. The owners are very helpful when it comes to booking/supplying directions/local information etc. The complex is very well looked after, security patrol everyday and the pool is cleaned regularly. The pool is brilliant with plenty of sunbed's and parasols - you will never ever struggle to get one (or have to get up at 5am to reserve one with your towel!!) Cannot recommend a holiday to Paphos enough - beautiful weather, people and restaurants and would recommend staying at Iris Cottage everytime!
