The Paphos District

CLIMATE: Kato Paphos is a year round destination.

The period between March and May beats an English summer hands down. It is sunnier, hotter and drier.. The average high temperature rises to 18°C in March, 21°C in April and 24°C in May. From early April beach days resume, though the sea is still a bit nippy and cool winds can inspire the odd shiver.

June through to September high temperatures are coupled with almost no rain. Average high temperature is just below 30°C for the entire season. Fairly low humidity and sea breezes help to keep things more comfortable the sun stays out for 12 hours per day. The sea temperature peaks in August at 27°C.

From October till November the weather remains excellent and the temperature reduces to an average high of 26°C in October and 22°C in November. hot days followed by cool nights. October sees a little rain but sunshine levels remain good and the sea stays more than warm enough for swimming.

From December till February Paphos experiences an exceptionally mild winter.. The average high temperature decreases to 19°C in December and 17°C in January and February. The warm days are sometimes interrupted with cool, blustery weather and the nights are always chilly.

The yearly rainfall in Paphos is just above 400mm on average and much of this falls in the short, heavy winter downpours. The sun stays out for around five hours per day and the sea is debatably just warm enough for swimming. Those that brave swimming on British seaside holidays will find the 17°C water positively balmy.

If you are in Paphos in winter and find yourself wanting some proper winter weather you can find it in the nearby Troodos Mountains. In fact, you’ll even find a ski resort. Generally, there is snow in the higher mountains (that reach up to 2000m) between January and March, so you can ski in the morning then sunbathe in the afternoon.

HISTORY & PLACES OF INTEREST: UNESCO added the whole town of Paphos to its World Cultural Heritage List. Among the treasures unearthed, are the remarkable mosaics in the Houses of Dionysus, Theseus and Aion, beautifully preserved after 16 centuries under the soil. Then there are the mysterious vaults and caves, the Tombs of the Kings, the Pillar to which Saint Paul was allegedly tied and whipped, the ancient Odeon Theatre and other places of interest including the Byzantine Museum and the District Archaeological Museum.

Universal Gardens

As well as all the historical sites, Paphos boasts many family favourites including Aphrodite’s Water Park, Go Karting and Kato Paphos beaches, night life & many restaurants are only a short walking distance from the property.

“Lovely quiet spot”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2012

The house was excellent in a quiet complex of 20 Houses with a mixture of holiday lets and permament residents latter being a lovely Cypriot family. The accomodation was good with everything you need in a holiday let. The downside was that the nearest taverna was full of brits watching any one of the four large TVs all showing football. The food was nothing special so we only went once. We had to hire a car as my husband could not have managed the walk to the tourist area/harbour, though there were good instructions in the info pack provided. The info pack also said there was a good bus service but in the fortnight we did not see a single bus and we were driving on the main route to the house. All in all if you can manage the walk and like a peaceful location this house will suit you.

“Relaxing, peaceful, homely.”

Reviewed 16 Oct 2012

After having a ten day holiday in the same house in 2011, we decided it was an excellent idea to go back for 9 nights in September. Make sure you do not rent an Avis car as we had trouble with them, last year we had no trouble at all. This did not affect our holiday, we had a lovely relaxing time. The pool offers a welcome cool down in the hottest part of the day, the patio area is great for eating outside, playing games and enjoying the cooler evening. The 2 bedrooms are large and the air conditioning is great to have when you return from outings. Walking into Paphos in the evening was a pleasure but too hot in July. Fantastic places to eat out. We will be going back and would not hesitate to recommend this very homely house.

“Comfy home from home in sunny paphos!”

3 of us were lucky enough to go to cyprus for a wedding, most of the wedding party stayed in Coral Bay but I wanted a place abit out of the way so we could do our own thing and make the most of our time on the island. I F Found this property on tripadvisor and straight away was impressed by the amenities on offer and the reasonable price for our 10 day stay. Zeus gardens exceeded our expectations in every way. Its a short walk to paphos' excellent harbour with all the restaurants and bars you need. The property is really comfy with all the mod cons, spacious rooms, tonnes of plates and utensils so you can happily cook meals, and last but not least a nice pool which was a must with the lovely hot weather we had the whole time we were there. Graham the owner was really helpful and always replied very quickly to calls/emails which all helped to make our trip a memorable one. I would strongly recommend zeus gardens for friends, couples or families visiting Cyprus!

“Wonderfully spacious holiday home set in very relaxing surroundings.”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2012

We had a fabulous holiday here. The house is a real home from home, cosy and very well equipped with all mod cons. The complex is very tranquil with good size swimming pool for those much needed dips! We very much enjoyed dining on the patio over looking the pool, when not eating out. It was perfect for when our young daughter needed an early night and was safe asleep upstairs in her cot. Only a 15 minute walk to the the restaurants & harbour. There is a local restaurant and shop within 5 minutes walk also. We will definitely return again soon.

“Zeus has everything you need”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2012

We stayed here for a week and virtually had the whole complex to ourselves, the house has everything you need, 2 big bedrooms, bathroom upstairs, seperate cloakroom downstairs, aircon throughout, useful kitchen with all utensils and crockery, nice sitting area with 2 sofas, outdoor space with sunbeds and matresses, the sun is on the terrace from early morning until late afternoon.Kato Paphos is within a 15 minute walk, there is a nearby bar and supermarket, and parking spaces for several cars at the apartment complex. A home from home and a nice place to relax, as if designed by the gods themselves!!!
