Description from owner

Description

This is a new light and airy and very spacious stone villa with all the modern comforts and gadgets, wonderful beds, lovely garden and a large swimming pool. It is located in the green Istrian countryside with views over vineyards, olive plantations and woodland. The view stretches all the way to the Italian Alps in the distance. The villa is on an upmarket gated site of 7 similar villas.

This is a gourmet area of Croatia, famous for excellent fish, game and fabulous steaks and pasta with truffles. Great merlots and pinots go so well with the local dishes, and there is a local white called Malvasia, which is fresh and crisp. It is a 30 minute drive to several beaches, lovely towns and restaurants. There are many cycling and walking paths and only 3 hour drive to Venice, or take a day trip by a ferry!

Location description from owner

The Istria region

The west coast of Istria is within easy reach. Many of the towns on this coast are communities first established in the Roman era or earlier but the dominant influence that can be seen today is Venetian. Most of the major coastal towns were under the control of the Venetian Republic during the medieval period. At the northern end of the coast the charming town of Novigrad is worth visiting; it has an attractive harbour crowded with local fishing boats and an old town surrounded by fortifications and on the outer side (away from the harbour) a lungamare (promenade) providing a pleasant walk along the coast and an ideal place to sunbathe and swim.

Further down the coast Rovinj is unquestionably the most picturesque of the medieval Venetian towns on the Adriatic. Every guide book features the colourful facades of the tightly packed houses that encircle this tiny peninsula with the cathedral of St Euphemia and its dominating 60 metre bell tower standing over the town.

Other coastal towns well documented in guide books are Porec, Umag, Vrsar and Piran in Slovenia. On the east coast of Istria, Opatija provides a contrast with its grand villas built in the 19th century for the Austro Hungarian aristocracy, a delightful lungamare (promenade) and some fine restaurants.

Umag

Savudrija is the area at the North west corner of Istria facing the Bay of Piran and about 7km from Umag. A new Kempinski Hotel and the adjoining Skiper Resort have been developed on the coast with views out across the bay to Piran in Slovenia. The par 72 eighteen hole golf course at Savudrija, designed by the Austrian architect Diethard Fahrenleitner, is one of the few golf courses in Croatia. Nearby Umag is a popular tourist centre focused around a charming mediaeval old town that shows the architectural influence of the Venetians who controlled Umag in the middle ages. Today Umag is also an important sports centre, particularly for tennis, hosting the Croatian ATP tennis championships every July.
