Description from owner

Description

Newton-in-Furness is a quiet, peaceful village on the edge of the UK Lake District. It has two village pubs, providing good meals, and a small park for children. The area has a fascinating iron ore mining history. The cottage is about 30 minutes drive from Lake Coniston, where there are water sports facilities, rocks to climb, copper mines and mountains. The old market town of Ulverston and the city of Barrow-in-Furness are close by. Here there are historical monuments, Furness Abbey, a dock museum, a bird sanctuary, plenty of supermarkets, a 3-D multiscreen cinema, restaurants, and a beautiful coastline with small islands you can visit by boat. A wild animal park nearby is located in the ancient capital of Furness.

Location description from owner

The Cumbria region

This area offers something for everyone. Being on the outskirts of the Lake District, you avoid being in the centre of the hustle and bustle, but the Lakes are close enough to get to on a daily basis to enjoy their beauty and terrific walks. Coniston Water is about twenty minutes and Lake Windermere forty minutes drive, respectively. On the Lakes there are opportunities for water sports, sailing, boat trips and kayaking. Fell walking is rife in the area with many different levels on which you can experience this. Many fell walks have footpaths, but opportunities for climbing are of course widely available. There is an aquarium about 20 minutes drive away, and a wild animal park about five minutes away.

Ulverston

Ulverston is the nearest market town with gift shops, pubs, eating places and a small, traditional cinema. It is about ten minutes' drive. Barrow-in-Furness is the closest town, with many supermarkets, including 24 hour, large multiscreen cinema, leisure centre with swimming pool and all sports facilities. There is a main hospital also in Barrow.

Newton-in-Furness is a quiet, family village with a park or children and rural atmosphere. There are two village pubs, serving evening meals. There are many walks around the village, including to the nearby famous Furness Abbey. The whole area is very picturesque with limestone outcrops, a very rural feel to it, and views to the fells. It is close to the sea, with sandy beaches, a small island which can be reached by boat and near forests and woodlands for walking. I am only ten minutes' drive away and so can be on hand in case there are any problems. My aim is to ensure you have a perfectly marvelous stay, as comfortable as I can possibly make it, and your holiday is as packed or as restful as you would wish it to be.

“Made our New Year fantastic!!!!!”

Reviewed 15 Jan 2013

I stayed over new year and could of asked for a better experience!! The cottage is gorgeous and very homely, Sunetra was amazing and very generous leaving items for our breakfast!! Only a few minutes drive from a good night out, locals were very friendly and welcoming. The log fire was the beautiful and plenty of wood to keep it going, and kept the cottage toasty warm. I would definitely recommend this gorgeous cottage as it is fantastic value for money!! Thankyou sunetra it was a brilliant start to 2013!! X

“Hidden Gem”

Stayed for 3 nights with spouse & 3 children (aged 13,10 & 5). Cottage was beautiful & very clean with everything you could ask for (except a TV although a lot of games are provided). The surrounding village is lovely & the neighbours very welcoming. Cottage owner was superb, as well as the usual refreshments i.e tea/coffee, the fridge was also stocked up which was a massive bonus & something you rarely come across. The zoo is only a 5 minute drive & is a definate if you have children (or even not). Lots to see, you can easily spend a few hours there. All in all an excellent place to stay for a peaceful, relaxing, stress free break.

“Great place, helpful landlady, peaceful neighbourhood”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2012

Weeks before Easter, my friends and I planned to have a short break in Lake district and decided to rent a house somewhere close to windermere as we were driving. Found this value for money cottage on holiday letting website. At first our impression was too good to be true, we picked the phone and started asking all sort of questions like are there any additional fee we have to pay, but the landlady ensured us that the fee we had seen on the web was all we need to pay. Having heard that we booked the cottage for 3 nights immediately. Days prior to arrival, we emailed a number of queries to the landlady and she always responded quickly. We arrived at the cottage on the Easter day, additional to a warm welcome from the landlady, to our surprise she bought us some Easter egg chocolates and biscuits. We walked around the cottage with full satisfaction, the heater/hot water worked, house was clean, new stair carpet fitted, the toilet and shower in good condition/clean, the decorations was homey and cosy, tea / coffee were in place and the cooker was working. What was more the landlady prepared some woods for us to burn in the fireplace was definitely icing on the cake. Next day, We drove to Coniston and windermere from the cottage for about 40 mins, on the way to the lakes the scenery was amazing, the winding roads was perfect for driving. we definitely had a great time in lake district.
