Description

Oakbank Cottage is a beautifully-furnished and spacious Lakeland cottage, set in the Lake District's stunning Duddon Valley. There's a fabulous big kitchen-breakfast room with big glass patio doors onto a walled garden, where you can sit and listen to the rushing mountain stream and waterfall nearby. In addition to two double bedrooms (one en-suite) and two twins upstairs - with stunning brass beds - there is a single bedroom downstairs with shower/toilet next to it - so perfect for less mobile members of the family. A big, oak-beamed sitting room with loads of comfy sofas, books and games has a TV with the full Sky TV package. With its welcoming log-burning stove it's a terrific place to stay whatever the season - and there's free wifi for you as well as a house phone.

This lovely and very well equipped cottage offers the best of both worlds - set back from the road and wonderfully peaceful, there are loads of things to see and do nearby. You've got fantastic

This lovely and very well equipped cottage offers the best of both worlds - set back from the road and wonderfully peaceful, there are loads of things to see and do nearby. You've got fantastic walks from the door - including a 10 minute stroll through stunning scenery to the little old Post Office and Stores in Ulpha. From day trips to sandy beaches to a little steam train ride to the coast, from riding beautiful Cumbrian heavy horses to taking a boat trip on nearby Coniston Water, it's a brilliant holiday base for the whole family. Lake District favourites like Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm and Ambleside are within easy reach, yet this part of the Lakes is a lot less crowded, and dramatically beautiful. Our guests love coming home to Oakbank from a great day out in the Lakes.

Nearby Broughton-in-Furness is a lovely little market town with terrific food shops selling the best local produce, and there are some excellent local inns where you and the family can enjoy great meals together. For essentials there's the little Post Office & Stores a stroll away, but Tesco delivers to the cottage too.

Location description from owner

The Duddon Valley region

England's Lake District is one of the most beautiful scenic areas in the world, with its own unique landscape, architecture, food and history.
It has an extraordinarily rich literary and artistic heritage. It was where the poet Wordsworth was inspired to write his greatest lines, where Beatrix Potter wrote her magical Peter Rabbit books (with illustrations that are set in the Lake District) and its beauty has inspired some of our greatest painters including Turner.

But it's also terrific fun. It's lakes and mountains, rivers and beaches provide a stunning playground for those who love walking, climbing, riding, canoeing, golfing and swimming. And the area has long been popular with families with young children because of the wide variety of activities and unique attractions on offer. Not to mention terrific food, ice-creams and Lakeland-brewed beer.

Ulpha

The Duddon Valley is one of the least crowded and most beautiful areas in England's Lake District. The Duddon River rushes through it, wide and shallow, with lovely old stone bridges across it and wide grassy areas that are perfect for picnics. The Lake District's little Herdwick sheep graze in the valley and wander along the road. You are surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery with Lakeland farmhouses dotting the hillsides.

It makes a brilliant base for a Lake District holiday as it feels remote and peaceful, yet there's a little shop in the valley, the ancient little market town of Broughton-in-Furness a few miles away and plenty of atmospheric inns serving great food. The area is within easy reach of favourite Lake District attractions like Coniston, Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm and the dramatically beautiful Wastwater lake, but is also near the Lake DIstrict coast which has some lovely wide sandy beaches and are a real treat for children. The area has a number of very special attractions of its own including: the Cumbrian Heavy Horse Centre at Millom where you can see these beautiful beasts and ride them along the beach; the Owl Sanctuary at Muncaster Castle; the little single gauge steam train that chugs to Ravenglass on the coast, Coniston boat trips; Go Ape near Coniston and lots more! There's canoeing, golf, riding, mountain-biking, climbing, fishing and plenty of sports to enjoy here too.

“Relaxing stay in a lovely cottage away from it all, with a waterfall out side the front door.!”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2016

Had a really relaxing week stay at Oak Bank Cottage, All rooms were clean and well looked after. Plenty of elbow room, not at all cramped, two good bathrooms up stairs and a shower cubical in the en suite down stairs. Three good size sofas in the one reception room with log burner and TV with Sky. Good Wi Fi connection. Kitchen was plenty big enough, had everything we needed in the cupboards and drawers. We took our two Jack Russell's and felt at ease leaving them in the kitchen with the flag stone flooring, wet muddy paws and all. I would recommend Oakbank Cottage for a rental, James the owner is extremely helpful, if you need anything you will have his mobile number to call. We had a lovely relaxing holiday here, you are tucked away from everyone, but within striking distance of all the main towns and attractions.
