They are set in the grounds of the owner's house at the end of 200 metres of private drive and surrounded by 12 acres of gardens, meadows and orchards which are a haven for birds and wildlife. The cottage enjoys its own garden area in which to sit out and unwind from the stresses of everyday life.

It is equipped and furnished to a very high standard, with almost everything you could need for a totally relaxed holiday. It has been converted by a local builder with great care to retain many original features whilst creating a warm and welcoming cottage in which to truly unwind and get away from it all.

You enter Pippins through a door into a cosy sitting/dining room with comfortable seating, oak furniture and a 32” Panasonic LCD TV, a DVD player and iPad/iPod dock. You will find games in the cupboard and plenty of books to choose from in the bookcase and tourist information and maps to help you plan your stay.

There are two steps up to the kitchen which is a very light room with windows lining the two outer walls. It is very well equipped with a good quality electric cooker, a microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine/dryer. There is a door that leads out to your own delightful courtyard garden planted with scented roses. Here you will find garden furniture, an umbrella and Weber charcoal barbecue.

The bedroom overlooks its own pretty, little garden which you can access through double doors. The bed is a super king sized (6ft) pocket sprung, zip and link divan which can, if required, be divided into twin beds. There is also a small remote controlled TV. The en-suite bathroom has an over-bath shower.

If you want a rest from driving there is access onto a public footpath just outside the garden, and the Vanguard Way is only 10 minute's walk away. Several vineyards in the vicinity produce some rather good wines which can be sampled and bought.

The Bluebell Steam Railway makes frequent journeys from Sheffield Park, with its period railway station and frequent special evening and week-end events for all ages. A great day out can also be enjoyed on the Ashdown Forest, the home of Winnie the Pooh and his friends, is less than 2 miles away, which is an ideal setting for wildlife and offers the perfect recipe for picnics, walking and riding.

This is an area rich in historic houses and beautiful gardens. Glyndebourne Opera House is only 30 minute's drive. Why not have a day out, do some shopping and take in the Georgian Spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells or visit the seaside towns of Brighton or Eastbourne. Battle Abbey and 1066 country are both within easy reach. Or how about hiring a bike and taking a ride on the Cuckoo Trail.

The Hurstwood (reviews on tripadvisor) which is the nearest pub is just a 7 minute stroll away. The nearest railway station is only 6 minute's drive away with direct access to London in about 70 minutes. There is a village store a couple of miles up the road and the major superstores in Uckfield and Crowborough are all within a 15 minute drive.

“Delightful, high quality accommodation with excellent host”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2016

Pippins is a truly delightful cottage to stay in. From the high quality fittings through to the very comfortable bed and the little extras it really was lovely. We were visiting the UK from Australia and struggling with the cold wet UK winter but the cottage was always warm and inviting. Joan is an excellent, friendly host, she includes several little extras which make all the difference plus she was so helpful buying us a few groceries to start us off and dealt with any minor issues promptly. I highly recommend this property and look forward to visiting again, hopefully in the summer so we use the patio.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your great review. We are always aware that visitors like to be comfortably warm during the cold months particularly when they come from warmer climates. it would be lovely if you did return during the summer particularly when the roses which have been chosen for their perfume are in full bloom around Pippins.

“Pippins is the perfect holiday cottage”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2014

My wife and I have stayed at Pippins five times now over the past four years - we keep coming back because of the friendly, personal service provided by the owners, Mr and Mrs Cooper. The cottage is always immaculately presented, all fittings and appliances are in perfect working order and there is Wi-Fi on hand. The cottage is situated on an apple farm in a quiet part of East Sussex with beautiful walks in the area and good pubs and restaurants. The nearest town is Crowborough with the usual amenities including a Waitrose store. We liked most the quiet, rural location and the unvarying very high standard of the accommodation over the four years we have visited.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for taking the trouble to write such a lovely review. It is always a pleasure to welcome back our visitors to Sunnymead Cottages and it gives us a tremendous boost to receive such a good review. Kind regards, Joan Cooper
