The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Tuzla Lake is formed by the deep inlet from the Gulf of Güllük and Mandalya Bay. This is perhaps one of the most stunning locations in Turkey. Home to a host of ancient ruins the lake is surrounded by mountains covered with olive groves, pine and tamarisk trees. This area is particularly special as a natural bird sanctuary. Throughout the year a large variety of rare birds including flamingoes, pelicans and white storks can be seen flocking to the wetlands. The site itself covers two valleys and hillsides, the contours of the land allowing for spectacular views of Tuzla lake, Agean sea and mountains.
There is a small fishing village of Bogazici that nestles on the shores of Mandalya Bay. The village holds an important place in history as the site of the ancient city of Bargilia. Today a variety of restaurants fringe the seafront offering the day's fresh catch and other Aegean specialities.
The sun shines endlessly here from May to October. Whilst the peak summer months of July and August can be quite hot, there is always a lovely sea breeze keeping the temperature very pleasant. There are some of the most beautiful beaches and sunsets locally.
With sea temperatures ranging from 25 to 16 °C between summer and winter, this is a great location for swimming, sailing and water sports at any time of the year.
All in all everything is catered for a perfect holiday whatever you're looking for.
Bodrum town is a busy, lively place with many ancient buildings including the medieval Castle of St. Peter, now a museum, built by the Knights of St. John from Rhodes and the Roman amphitheatre that has been restored. There are numerous shops, bazaars and markets where haggling for goods has become a tourist sport.
A visit to the steaming Turkish baths is a popular attraction especially after a hard night of drinking and dancing.
A short journey from Bodrum Town is Ephesus which is second only to Pompeii in showing well preserved examples of life in Roman times. It is well worth a visit.
It is said that Turkey, as far as culture is concerned, is the richest country in the Mediterrean. It has a wealth of ancient ruins and buildings within its shores including the ruins of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Mausoleum of Halikarnassus. Halikarnassus is the ancient name of Bodrum town. Treasures also include the 3,000-year-old ruins of Troy, made famous by the poet Homer;
The nightlife in Bodrum is varied and offers entertainment to suit most tastes. The liveliest places are Bodrum town, Gumbet which is noted for its discos and bars, and Antalya which boasts a large floating disco. There are many opportunities for peaceful dining overlooking the waterfronts.
Bodrum provides more than an ample supply of opportunities for retail therapy. Shops, roadside stalls, bazaars and markets are usually selling their goods until late in the evening. Many shops don’t close until midnight. The shop keepers and stall holders have a very proactive approach to selling and you will be offered many ‘bargains’. Be aware that bartering is expected and that the original price is almost always inflated. There are many outlets for leather goods, gold and silver jewellery. Don’t forget to buy the blue glass beads to protect you from the evil eye!
In Bodrum there are numerous places to satisfy the appetite ranging from pavement cafes to restaurants offering international cuisine. The choice is vast and the prices are very reasonable.
Traditional Turkish food is very tasty and includes stuffed peppers and vine leaves, kebabs, calamari and of course feta cheese, olive and tomato salads. Rice dishes and fresh fish are also popular.
The national drink of Turkey is raki which is aniseed flavoured.

The apartment was spacious light and airy, with a fabulous view over lake Tuzla. Beautifully furnished with large tv/dvd. A flight of stairs just steps away from the front door to a beautiful quiet pool, and a further 5 mins walk up to the main pool area, which although is the centre of activities, with restaurant, pool, games, tennis, 2 great slides into smaller pool... was amazingly un crowded. All Staff lovely and restaurant food extremely good. Also excellent 'sunset-view' restaurants nearby offering fee pick-up drop-offs. Not a bad meal in the whole holiday. 'My beach' a must, they also do a free transfer. Milas market 30 mins away. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday, brown as buttons, very rested... Dont rely on the wi fi.

"Ideal spot = absolutely fabulous holiday."
I have just read the last review posted, and it says it all about the apartment, setting and facilities. Warren and Susan were most helpful with the hints, tips and advice - any of their suggestions which we followed came up trumps. Beaches, boat trips, transport, shoping - everyhing. We spent 6 weeks in this lovely apartment, at the end of the season, so perhaps the shuttle bus, dolmus and on site activities were not so frequent - but we stil enjoyed the tranquility and would not hesitate to return. Sitting on that verandah with a drink at any time, and with that view is just perfect!! I would also like to thank Leonard, whom Warren uses to look after the apartment on-site - he is a fount of local knowledge and lives on Turquoise, so in the unlikely event that there is a problem, he is there. One thing is that if you do not have a car - we only hired on the odd occasion (easily done), and you are at Turquoise at the end of season, the shuttle does not come around that often, so it is up a hill to the main pool and restaurant, and therefore not suitable for people who experience difficulty in walking. Thank you both again, and we will certainly return. Gillian and Julian
We're so happy you loved it as much as we do and look forward to welcoming you again.
