The Limousin region
The area surrounding Turenne is beautifully diverse. There are the green rolling hills of the Correze, the limestone country of the Lot with its marvellous caves and canyons where villages cling to the cliff face and then there is the lush river valley of the Dordogne. The area is a haven for walkers, cyclists, canoeists, horse riders and water-lovers. The land is full of history and myths, and its architecture remains well preserved. The area is also famous for its gastronomy. This is the country of walnuts, chestnuts, truffles, mushrooms, foie-gras and excellent wine including a delightful red, Mille et Une Pierres from the nearby vineyard of Branceilles, and the aperitif wines "Vin de Paille" and "Vin de Noix". Salers distillery at Turenne Gare. Glanes near Bretenoux. All of this can be experienced at close proximity to La Maison Droite gite in Turenne. Summer is long and warm, preceded by a short early spring and followed by a warm autumn.
