The Galicia region
Galicia may not be as well known to British holiday makers as the Costas, but if you want beautiful countryside, real Spain in a region known for being "Green Spain" and justly famous for wonderful beaches and countryside, superb seafood and fish cuisine and a friendly population proud of their traditions with many festivals all over the area, then Galicia is for you and your family.
Don't expect many people to speak English but communication when you want to eat and drink shouldn't be too difficult! As the villa is on the Portuguese border it is ideal for all the delights of Northern Portugal, unspoilt and traditional whether inland or on the white sandy beaches.
A selection of simple bars and cafes are within easy walking distance, but the local area has some really excellent tapas and restaurants, how do they do it for the price? Menu of the day ( 3 courses plus a bottle of wine) for 8 Euros or even sometimes less!
Visit the most famous beaches on the isles de Cies, go to the various wine and food festivals, take a tour round a vineyard, hire bikes to ride next to the River, visit the many historic sites, hire boats, take a trip down the river, river kayaking, all within the local area. Further afield are the visits to Santiago cathedral, the wild north coast, the Portuguese Duro valley, Oporto city one of the most popular short break cities in Europe. The possiblities are endless!

"Perfect peaceful villa with lovely garden and pool"
The villa it's self was spacious, we are a family of five and the children enjoyed having a room each with one room we didn't use at all. The lounge was comfortable and the kitchen was very spacious with a large dining table and also a small balcony attached, great for breakfast and lunch. The pool and garden was a surprise as it was much nicer than the picture or the description. The pool was large enough to swim a few lengths and quite deep, so cool and good fro the kids who want to dive in. The garden was well maintained with lovely flowers and a bit of a lawn. The back had fruit trees,we enjoyed a couple of oranges and kids made an apple crumble from the bounty. The property has no immediate neighbours, vineyards on two sides and a lovely field with sweet chestnut trees and beautiful horses in the evening on the other. There are electric gates at the front so it felt very private. The surrounding area was very pretty. Not that many places to eat out and the locals really don't speak english. If you want to be any from the crowds a we did, this place is perfect. The river beach nearby (4km?) was beautiful, very clean and uncrowded with a swimming area cordoned off. There is a spot of river walking distance form the house where you could swim but less user friendly. Local sea beach 40mins away was lovely. Again clean, not too crowded with a sheltered bay. Would certainly recommend this villa, we loved it and the area. We even stayed on in the villa at a local hotel, after our time in the villa was up, as we liked the surroundings so much.
