Location description from owner

The England region

Cornwall is very special, picturesque with the freshest of air and wild, wonderful scenery; hospitable home to marvellous food and drink and filled with attractions for the visitor To the North lies the Atlantic, with high cliffs and pounding breakers, wonderful wide beaches of golden sand and rock pools, ideal for surfing, family days on the beach and cliff adventures. To the south gentler cliffs and landscapes with the English Channel approaches offer calmer seas and plenty of safe ports and winding rivers and wooded valleys for sailing, canoeing and walking. With a heritage of sea-faring, fishing, farming and tin mining, Cornwall offers a very wide range of traditional attractions. There are historic gardens, wild moorland, deep thrilling tin mines under the sea, prehistoric burial sites; the most southerly and the most westerly points of Mainland Britain to admire and enjoy all served by the unbroken Cornish coastal path. There are also developed attractions ranging from the world heritage treasure that is The Eden Project or the magical Lost Gardens of Heligan and other castles, historic houses and gardens ruined and inhabited, to the modern fun of theme parks and water parks, hobbyist rail parks, busy fishing ports and seal and owl sancturies. There are a wide range of events: literary festivals at Fowey, food and drink at St Ives and Padstow, music at Looe and Falmouth and festival of lights amongst many in Truro, sea shanties, the Fal festival and this year the tall ships race from Falmouth. Towns vary from the exciting night life of Newquay to the sophistication of Fowey, Falmouth and Truro; open air theatre, beach concerts, the Eden sessions, classical and church concerts and choral services at Truro Cathedral and scores of excellent restaurants famed for food , wine, cider and local produce, dotted with many old pubs serving local cider and ales, many with fabulous views.

Truro

Tregear is in the middle of the countryside, a lovely valley with woods and cows grazing, streams and fields of crops; the lane is very quiet - a few vehicles an hour, and the gardens and decks offer tranquility and wonderful fresh air. A half hour walk away is Ladock with its highly rated pub, The Falmouth Arms with great home cooked local food, local beers and ciders and a historic church. The lanes are quiet, interlaced and offer access to woodland and streams. A car is essential to enjoy your visits further afield. The A30 is 3 miles north and the A390 5 miles south - these are the main Cornwall road arteries. Both coasts are easily reached and they vary from the traditional seaside resort of Perranporth, sophisticated Lusty Glaze to the wild and tranquil Holywell on the North coast, to the secluded, peace of tiny coves at Portholland or Portlooe. You can choose between estuaries to fish and potter in to the south; surf schools and coasteering to the north. Our previous guests have been full of praise for how well placed we are to tour the county. Nearer attractions are Truro, Perranporth, Megavissy and St Austell, the lovely Roseland Peninsula is a short distance (most attractively accessed via the King Harry Ferry) but Tintagel can be visited in a couple of hours as can Land's End or the Lizard, Looe, Fowey and St Ives. Families can enjoy the Lappa Valley Railroad, Dairyland and Hendra Water park all within 5 miles. The Eden project is a half hour's journey and The lost Gardens of Heligan even less. You can look at the wind direction and surf report and be at Fistral beach in half an hour or at sheltered Pentewan Sands in forty. Truro has a theatre, cinema, covered and outdoor markets, lots of local food outlets, museum, quaint local and chain store shopping and lots and lots of places to eat and drink, from local fish restaurants, modern bistros, a cake cafe! and a wide choice of world cuisines - we offer suggestions for local dining, attractions and shops in our guide to the area. Tregear is handy for all that Cornwall does best and all its many devotees return each year for. We are very happy to be welcoming people back for their third visit in the three years we have been open.

“Amazing week exploring Cornwall from a great location”

Reviewed 1 May 2014

Thank you Steve and Judith for a wonderful family holiday. Our two little girls loved their holiday home as that was exactly how it felt. A brilliant home from home, albeit with much better views. The barns are beautifully decorated and furnished with special little extras like books, games and DVDs for all the family to enjoy. Our barn was well prepared and the Cornish Cream Tea on arrival, with baby scones for our girls was a really thoughtful touch. The location of the barns is perfect, just a short drive from a number of beautiful beaches, Crantock being our favourite, and numerous other attractions. The grounds are lovely and perfect for small people to run around in and the addition of a garden swing/adventure set was ideal. We were able to lock our bike in the shed overnight and used Steve and Judith's local knowledge to make the most of our week. A wonderful holiday and we hope to revisit the barns again soon.
