The Lake District
The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family.
The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base.
Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.
One of the most popular visitor destinations in Cumbria, Windermere is an excellent place to stay for those wishing to discover the delights of the remarkable Lake District and its surrounding areas.
Windermere itself is situated only 1km away from Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England, attracting visitors from all walks of life who wish to experience the excitement and serenity of this beautiful place. Take a boat trip on the lake or embark on one of the many walks, ambles, bike rides and climbs in the surrounding areas and experience a life of outdoor adventure.
Windermere has plenty to offer the visitor from shops to pubs and restaurants and is also within walking distance from the equally as popular and unique town of Bowness-on-Windermere, which also has much to offer by way of places to eat and drink! Acting as an excellent base from which to explore the very best of Cumbrian Lakeland, from Lake Windermere itself to Troutbeck Bridge and even Staveley, a holiday in Windermere is sure to provide ample opportunity for exploration and relaxation.
