The Jersey region

Jersey, the largest and most southerly of the Channel Islands, with over 450 miles of roadway (comprising a mix of roads and small lanes) as well as a network of over 46 miles of green lanes with a speed limit of 15mph (24kph) where priority is given to walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

The island is well known for its truly magnificent sandy beaches, sheltered coves and crystal clear waters. Inland, winding lanes take you through delightful countryside. Warmed by the waters of the Gulf Stream, Spring arrives early and Summer lingers on. The weather here consistently tops the UK resort charts for sunshine hours and temperature. Jersey is the most southerly of the Channel Islands and summer temperatures average 20C.

The French flavour is all around with French sounding names, continental style bistros, restaurants and pavement cafes. You do not need a passport to visit the Channel Islands unless you intend taking a day trip to France which is a short hop away by sea or air. You will need proof of identity for flights and sea travel to the island.

Some of Jersey's popular events include the Battle Of Flowers (Second week of August), world famous music festival Jersey Live (first weekend of September), International Air Display (Second week of September) as well as many other local festivals and fetes throughout the year.

Whilst the island is served by a bus service, your own transport is highly recommended - either your own car or a hired car or bicycle to make the most of your visit.

Trinity : The famous Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust for endangered species is located here, in the grounds of Les Augrès Manor. Les Platons, the highest point in the Island at 453 feet (138 m) above sea level, houses a BBC television station, while Bouley Bay Hill is the venue for the National and International Hill Climbs.

Also well worth a look is the parish church, which features one of the finest mural monuments on the Island - that of Sir Edouard de Carteret.

Every year St Helier hosts the Battle Of Flowers festival, Jersey Boat Show and International Air Display. From the port of St Helier visitors can catch the ferry to the other Channel Islands and St Malo, France. There is a petrol station and a pub that serves food just a short drive from the cottage. There is also a Waitrose supermarket en route to the main town of St Helier.
