Description from owner

Description

Dionysus' (Wine) Barrel is the name of the smaller of the two accommodations listed as B&B; a cosy bedroom on the first floor which opens to a large roofed veranda with fantastic views of the Troodos mountains. The veranda and the spacious bathroom next door are reserved for exclusive guest use. Holyday makers of both properties have access to the swimming pool area which is the best place for relaxing after a busy day (with or without sun downers) .The house is located in a quiet location at the outskirts of Trimiklini 10min away from the village centre at an altitude of about 600 m /1800 ft in a more moderate climate. We bought the place because of its spectacular views of the Troodos mountains.
The village centre can be reached in 8 - 12 min on foot. The colourful fruit and vegetable stalls next to the church and the shaded taverna are quite busy especially in the summer.

Things to do, see, enjoy in and around Trimiklini
- Join us when we go Hashing on a Sunday afternoon (Hash House Harriers exist world-wide, also in your home country, it is the largest social group and their definition: a running/walking club with a drinking problem or a drinking club with a running problem)...
- Rent-a-bike from us (currently restricted to 2 mountain bikes as a test) and enjoy cycling in the mountains (mostly on asphalt, and various difficulties) For more information ask your host (routes, trails are available in the official Cycling brochures, Tourist info offices, Internet)
- Visit the nearby inland fish farm and fish your own meal in a man-made mountain lake, 1h walk from Triniklini centre, 30 min by bike (fishing gear available for rent, farmed fish: sturgeon, trout).
- Visit the Mesapotamos Monastery, and afterwards have your own picnic in the nearby well-equipped picnic area (facilities for grilling, wooden benches and tables, toilets) under the shade of large trees. (distance 10km from the house, suitable for bicycles and car)
- Drive up the direct Troodos road to the second road sign to Platres, park the car next to the trout farm (Psilodendro), do a moderate but scenic hike to the Caledonian waterfalls, and on return either have a trout for lunch or have a stroll through Platres.
- A Trip by car or bus up to the summit (about 1900 m or just under 6000ft) is a must. (circular walk – flat, duration about 4 to 6h, take your own snacks or eat afterwards on Troodos Square where the bus stops.)
- The central location of Trimiklini on the island makes it easy to reach many other interesting destinations a bit further away (Agros, Limassol – Kourium Beach, Paphos, Nicosia, Polis) but we leave this to our guests who can pick from travel guides according to their specific interests.

Location description from owner

The Limassol District

Trimiklini (in Limassol District, about 25 km from Limassol town) halfway between coastline and the summit of the Troodos mountains, hilly terrain. At an altitude between 600 and 700 metres, the average temperature difference is about 5 degrees Celsius less than at sea level, which is particularly pleasant when summer temperatures climb above 35 degrees.
Vegetation: mainly agricultural use: vineyards (old and newer - some abandoned) 4 wineries in the vicinty of Trimiklin, orchards (peaches, nectarines, apricots, figs, almonds) and Pine forests. Plenty of earth tracks for walking, running or road and off-road mountain biking. Nearest Monastery is about 10km away (my favourite route for half-marathon training because most of the distance is through forests).
Trimiklini itself acts as a centre for the surrounding villages, hosting a co-op bank with cash machine, pharmacy, hair dresser besides two petrol stations, a well-equipped super market and a newly opened fantastic Bakery . The fruit and vegetable stalls in the village centre next to the church are a well-known attraction for tourists and locals and the adjacent outdoors taverna is a welcome refreshment stop for tourist buses on the way up from Limassol to Troodos

Recommendations what to do, see and enjoy in and around Trimiklini

If you feel like it: Rent-a-bike from us (currently restricted to 2 mountain bikes) and enjoy cycling in the mountains (mostly on asphalt, and various difficulties). For more information ask your host (routes, trails are available in the official Cycling brochures, Tourist info offices, Internet)

- Only Sundays: Join us when we go Hashing on Sunday afternoon (Hash House Harriers exist world-wide, also in your home country, it is the largest social group and their definition: we are a running/walking club with a drinking problem or a drinking club with a running problem)... worthwhile a visit if you have never heard of them
- Day-trip if you walk: Follow the signs from Trimiklini centre to the new inland fish farm and fish your own meal in a man-made mountain lake, or watch others fishing, 1h and a half on foot, 30 min by bike (fishing gear available for rent, farmed fish: sturgeon, trout). If you don't like fishing, just have a drink and snack in the small restaurant in a scenic setting
- Half-day trip: Visit the Mesapotamos Monastery (officially named: Timiou Prodromos Monastery), and afterwards have your picnic in the nearby well-equipped picnic area (facilities for grilling, wooden benches and tables, toilets) under the shade of large trees. (distance 10km from the house, by car if you have a picknic, if you cycle skip the picknic and follow directions from your host for a nice circular route back to Trimiklini and have a lunch/snack at the newly opened Sigma Bakery in Trimiklini - any time before sunset).
- Day-trip: Drive or cycle (11% over some longer sections!!) up the direct Troodos road to the second road sign to Platres, park the car/bike next to the trout farm (Psilodendro), do a moderate hike to the Caledonian waterfalls, and on return either have a trout for lunch or have a stroll through Platres.
- Day-trip by car up to the summit (about 1900 m or just under 6000ft) is a must. (circular walk – flat, duration about 4 to 6h, take your own snacks or eat afterwards on Troodos Square where the bus stops.) - Keen cyclists can do the whole route by bike - the circular part is off-road - depending on ability with occasional dismounting.

The central location of Trimiklini on the island makes it easy to reach most other interesting destinations in a reasonable time for day-trips (Agros, Limassol – Kourium Beach, Paphos, Nicosia, Polis)
